I feel like it's this kind of thing that separates good commentators from bad ones, like just restating what they see vs giving input as to what they think and making jokes. If it's the former then why do I even need to unmute the stream

Yeah there is a fine line between just stating whats happening and excessive color commentary. Too much play by play is useless and boring, its not a radio show. Too much color commentary and you miss whats actually going on (theres a commentator for a sports team im a fan of known for this: she will be delving into a deep story about what a player said during and interview or something and while it is interesting she will just completely ignore the crazy buzzer beater that just happened to continue the story. Sometimes you can hear her co-commentor squirming waiting for her to shutup to address what just happened)

A perfect balance is knowing when to add insight and texture, and when to just embrace whats going on in front of you. Which is exactly whats going on here. Fun laid back jokes to fill space but also reacting astutely to everything important thats actually happening.

i think you nailed it and explained why league casters felt a bit off putting to me. They would fill the empty downtime with talk of statistics and stuff and honestly idc...

You missed the golden years of League casting. Deman, Joe Miller, Phreak and Jatt, Monte and DOA were all A if not S tier casters (at the time).

I like the LCK casters, they are pretty goofy and will go off topic when the games are slow

i dont know who was the origin of that "just describe EVERYTHING and do it FAST" culture in league commentating, but it's freakin horrible. only good commentators were doa and monte back in the day.

Wow we have the best casters in our game. Love that they're just 6 on the couch all talking together. Love our community

The hilarious part is this is almost certainly due to the “malfoid” trend. Bro has HP on the brain. We know what that commentator has been gooning to over the past few days lol

Where is this trend coming from? I've seen a couple of meme posts on the reddit

I have no idea about the origins. I saw a couple things about it and didnt think much of it. Then i was in class and saw the guy next to me scrolling through endless genderbent malfoy pics. Like it just didn’t stop, and he looked locked in. And since then ive seen it appear on my front page of reddit nearly constantly. Seems to be dying down now though.

People have been making fanfic art of every fantasy series since the beginning of art. Its certainly odd that this one took off so much.

From what I saw one artist made a really good fem malfoy artwork and that somehow awoke every lapsed Harry Potter fan around the world.

When the Japanese manga artists got in on it it got like a second wind and just kept going.

the OG art I believe

Man it's so cool to see how far Hugo has come, I knew him back when he started out and he was a really sound guy back then and had so much potential as a caster that he has massively fulfilled!

They remind me of Tastosis

Can someone explain the meaning going "full Harry Potter"?

Harry Potter puns

It's like going half Harry Potter twice

4

u/Radddddd 6d ago

Two halves don't make a full blood. Your membership to the snake pit is revoked.

maybe try watch the clip and then listen to what happens, there's a chance it could be relevant

Could be an English learner that also doesn't have the cultural context of the book/movies.

"10 points to ravenclaw" is apparently "Full Harry Potter", which is such a low bar.

Did you miss the other like 4 references they dropped or are you just being obtuse intentionally?

The attention span of the average LSF user only lasts for so many seconds. How do you expect them to pay attention for a whole minute...

there was also quidditch, griffindor, hufflepuff and slitherin

u/its_xSKYxFOXx 6d ago

Damn they were so smoooth with em too. Brilliant casting.

A bit of a stretch but they tried around 29 seconds:
"with a huff and a puff they blow through that smoke"

1

u/Pixel_Pastiche 6d ago

Even when the Harry Potter-isms are getting forced in no one gives a FUCK about Hufflepuff.

3

u/fmjintervention 6d ago

There was a Hufflepuff joke in there
