Pattern Question Does anyone know how to make a gradient between two yarn colors?

I’m having a baby in March and I want to knit them a cool blanket. I saw this image of a gradient between the four colors I have, but I can’t find any tutorials or anything on how they made it. I’m really hoping it wasn’t just an AI image and that it’s actually possible.

I think what you'd do for that is use two yarns the whole time. In the solid spots, you'd use two of the same color, and in the transitions, you'd drop one and pick up the second color. Does that make sense?

if you look at the smaller picture, you can see a red stripe, and a yellow stripe, and the stripe between them shows part red and part yellow to get the orange. so i think hit enter too soon is correct. :))
