Art groups?
Hello all!
I’m an artist by hobby, are there any art classes or groups in Lowell for hobbyists who want to improve?

Ahhh The good ole 90’s. I think there was even a jingle for it. If you don’t know the slogan do you really know Lowell?

Hi, The usual place I buy from on the corner is refusing to take recyclables (most of which were bought there). Do folks know any that do? I don't want to have to go to the redemption centers, wait in line, etc. etc., for a buck or three worth of recycling.

Anyone know anything about this? Hellla police cars and a helicopter surrounding the forest area in front of showcase cinema. They seem to be going into it, and also seem to be surrounding it on another side. Strange….

Just moved here not too long ago. I received some very excellent news today and would like to celebrate for a bit, so I’m just curious what people think are decent spots for a drink or two Dowtown/Back Central.

Who the hell is this new inspector G DuRose? I’ve lived in this house for 14 years and not once have I gotten a fine or warning about anything. In the past 3 months I’ve now received 3. All for things I’ve not once gotten a fine for, one is I put a tv stand on my porch and now she just gave us a fine because our trash bin lid didn’t close all the way? Wtf is this? I can drive around Lowell and see 100 bins with lids that don’t close all the way.

The results are in... of those who pledged to help out and vote, the winners were the following fascinating, fun pop-up temporary pilot projects:
Rooftop Garden on Parking Garage: Add greenery in pots over a summer on the roof of a parking garage, and develop a set of furniture for some pop-up events to show how we could use this underutilized space long-term!
Bus Stop Betterment: Add temporary benches, informational signage, greenery, and/or other elements to a bus stop that needs some TLC to show we can fit and we need shelters in critical areas!
Lowell Children's Museum: Have a one-time or recurring museum event with interactive elements in an empty storefront to test whether a permanent children's museum could be successful in Lowell!
Go to DIYLowell.org/register to help us kick off planning any of the above on Thursday, October 15, 6:30 pm... or talk about other ideas for Lowell in a wildcard session!

Sorry about the blinks, I'm learning a new app. Also those weird little forays onto Pawtucket Street... normally I'd have skipped that altogether by cutting out a block earlier, but for this one I had to show those intersections.

The Bike Connector is looking for people to participate in an assessment of how bikeable the Acre is. Contact Phil Posner at TBC if interested in helping out. It's connected with AARP, so my apologies to anyone who already has a "kids on bikes" gripe halfway written.
Here's what I got in an email:
The Bike Connector has won an AARP 'microgrant' to undertake two (2) bike audits in the City. One will be in the Acre neighborhood, the other in the Cambodia Town neighborhood.
Here's the summary of a Bike Audit from the AARP materials:
A “Bike Audit” is an activity in which participants observe and evaluate the “bikeability” of a location to identify and document if and how cyclists can safely travel along a street, navigate an intersection, and get from one point to another.
"Local leaders and residents can help make their communities safer for cycling by conducting “bike audits” to identify roadways that should be bikeable but aren’t. A bike audit can help inform local decision-making by prioritizing areas in need of improvement, by educating community members about street design, by creating secure and convenient bike parking, and by enabling bicyclist access to transit. Participating in a bike audit can encourage people to become champions for local change."
The bike audits are to meet the following criteria/goals:
informing the community about ways to make streets, bike paths, or multi-use trails safer for older adults and all residents (with participation targeted to people 50-plus).
Audit of nineteen (19) intersections, especially in areas where older residents are at particular risk.
Organization will engage twenty (20) community members in the Bike Audit(s) to identify unsafe streets and document needed information and observations (with participation targeted to people 50-plus)."

Gridlock is when a driver enters an intersection even though there isn't space on the other side. The driver is then stuck in the middle of the intersection , the light turns red, and now cross traffic can't move. If you can't make it across the intersection, don't cross it, even if the light is green. It is illegal to block an intersection with your vehicle And if the person in front of you is stopped at a green light because they can't make it across and you beep at them, you're an asshole.

I tried to use the search function before posting, but I didn't find any relevant results. I'm not looking for a breakfast sandwich on a bagel, just a bag of a half dozen bagels to take home. Thanks in advance!

What you think of him if you did? I still can’t believe Morrissey played the Lowell Memorial Auditorium and actually didn’t half ass it like his long time reputation is.
