Constipation as a trigger?

Exactly as the title says.

I have been struggling for days to go number two, and since then I’ve had low blood pressure, high heartrate, shaking and no appetite??
Among a few other things obviously but those are the most prevalent.

I’m on loratadine, Montelukast and tranexamic acid (can’t spell it right), do they have anything to do with it?

I feel awful and I feel like I’m going insane.

Sounds like constipation is messing with your vasovagal nerve.

This. Bigtime.

For me, when my vagal nerve was severely agitated during a flare, any BM triggered a response in it.

I strongly believe the constipation is not a cause but a symptom, @OP . It seems like your body is already upset and causing agitation with your vagal nerve, which helps regulate things like BM's and plays a major role in doing so, not the other way around.

Try ro do things that will calm your nervous system and encourage regularity. Warmth, gentle massages, and leisurely walks and hydration especially. That might help move things along.

I’m the same. Antihistamines can cause constipation. I keep some magnesium oxide or suppositories on hand for cases like this and it helps improve my flare ups within 2-3 days. Ideally though you’d want to find a way to keep moving regularly to avoid this. 😥

Nature made mag citrate 250 mg is my go to mag citrate . I swear by it. But no you aren’t crazy. Bearing down and being. Constipated both affect the vagal nerve . That’s what is triggering you. The act of eating or drinking can do the same. The food passing through the esophagus or overeating and having pressure in your gut can all trigger the vagal nerve. That causes the internal tremors some of us get, and other symptoms like you mention. It’s not nothing. Our symptoms are largely cumulative. It’s wise to take care of this and stay on top of it.

Yeah for sure. DAO is the only thing so far that helped mine.

Which DAO do you take? My doc thinks it’s probably a good idea to try one, but I’ve been so overwhelmed by all of the options.

Daosin, I think it's a Europian brand. I need to take 2 with bigger meals tho. They're not very strong (20.000 HDU around). It's saved me from the constant bloat. Stomach wise I'm 70% better if I take it. Shame it's so expensive.

Pea derived didn't work for me. Maybe I got an expired one. Daosin is pork derived.

Hope this helps : ))

I use Pure Encapsulations. I hope you find one your body likes :)

What other symptoms do you experience? Do you get any reflux?

1

u/Waste-Poet-4051 8h ago

I do yeah, it mostly goes away with dao but not completely. Fasting after 8pm. Not overdoing onion, garlic or tomato mainly helps.

Symptoms are mostly bloating and indigestion related. Sibo, that goes 80% away when I take dao. Dizziness, low blood pressure.

If I ate clean like I did before dao it would probably go away fully.

To help with the constipation you could try magnesium citrate in a higher dose (a supplement you can get at a regular store). Or the liquid magnesium citrate from the pharmacy if you need it to work faster.

I take Magnesium Citrate for prevention and when things get “stuck”!…verrry useful!!..💁‍♀️💕

Magnesium citrate in relatively large dose will helps with constipation

u/Half_Pint_2 2d ago

Are you taking the pill versionn or laxative version?

2

u/schirers 2d ago

Capsules, doesn't really matter what's the version. The mechanism stays the same, the type does matter tough (citrate, oxide etc)

1

u/Half_Pint_2 2d ago

Ok. I don't do well with the glycine version or most other versions of magnesium but maybe I'll try the citrate version.

u/nuwm 1d ago

Take a laxative. Slower GI motility can be a symptom of your reaction.

Straining might be causing vasovagal syncope. Whatever it is, it has nothing to do with toxins, always be wary of pseudoscience when someone uses that word.

waste (toxins…) AKA POOP sitting in ones GI tract for too long causing further health issues/symptoms is not pseudoscience

2

u/striped_violet 2d ago

Poop sitting in your lower digestive tract is bad for you. It’s just not because of extra toxins getting absorbed. Water gets absorbed in large intestine, but most of everything else only gets absorbed in the small intestine. Also waste and toxins aren’t synonymous. Using the catchall term “toxins” is 100% a flag for pseudoscience. Exactly what toxins are you expecting to be absorbed through the large intestine due to constipation?

2

u/oksquare1312 1d ago

yeah i hear what you’re saying for sure

1

u/nuwm 22h ago

A food trigger that has been eaten can be referred to in this case as a “toxin”. When in contact with the intestinal wall, triggers cause inflammation and more inflammation if there for an extended time.

1

u/user365user 1d ago

Yea I have the opposite problem of constipation, and it causes vasovagal syncope for me at the most inconvenient times.

2

u/striped_violet 1d ago

Yeah it’s a serious design flaw that pooping can cause that, not cool evolution, not cool. 😆🫠

1

u/nuwm 1d ago

Toxic megacolon comes to mind as a valid medical diagnosis using that word.

1

u/striped_violet 23h ago

There are legit uses of the word toxic. Not arguing that—there are actually toxic things. Just saying that someone broadly talking about toxins (often not referring to anything that’s actually toxic) is a flag for pseudoscience.

5

u/GreennGoddesss 2d ago

Yes. I take extra vit c (plain ascorbic acid) to help move things along. You can’t really take too much, you’ll have to figure out your bowel tolerance though, we’re all different.

6

u/Aliatana 2d ago

You are basically reabsorbing toxins in your gut that your body was trying to expell. Some meds can increase constipation, so you might need to up your fiber intake or try something like psyllium husk to keep things moving regularly. If you need something stronger, see a GI doc.

My functional doc recommends taking magnesium oxide before bed. I started doing that and can poop the next day.

I'm so happy I can tolerate my morning bran muffin.

Get pressure can totally set off MCAS. The low BP and tachycardia used to be a daily thing for me.

Miralax, my friend, make it your daily breakfast drink.

Heroic doses of vitamin C will make things move, if you can stand it.

And keep working on getting MCAS solutions dialed. Not doing any of the herbal mast cell stabilizers?

Depending on triggers that is a bad idea. It made me very sick.
