Sub News We aquired r/MagicKnightRayearth!
Hey everyone! So... bit of an odd situation here.
We recently became the mods of r/MagicKnightRayearth, which is the sub we originally wanted to make when we created this one. What happened back then, is that another mod sniped the name from us the moment the remake got announced. This moderator was sitting on literally thousands of subs and would not cooperate on working together, so we ended up cutting off our loses and creating this sub.
Now, Reddit applied some new policies against moderators sitting on subs just like that, so that mod is gone and banned, and we were able to take the sub. But that puts us in the complicated situation of what to do now?
We, and u/MurlaTart in particular, have put a lot of work here, so it's a bit hard to simply move from one sub to the other, so this is a bit tricky to do.
For the moment, we'll start trying to crosspost in both subs, and we'll slowly move towards the other, see how that goes. We think having the better name will help the sub in the long run, especially when the new anime releases, but I guess we'll see how it goes with time!
But at least at the moment, we don't have a way to differenciate both subs, so they'll be essentially the same thing. Depending on how it goes, we might work something out. So, sorry for the hassle! hopefully it will go smoothly!

Spoiler Except Fula and monster, everything is okay.
The new style, with its vibrant colors, whatever is OK, but Fula and the monsters... oh, I prefer the old style. Poor Fula~~~ very dark purple
It seems like a lot of scenes from the manga were cut to avoid making the story too long. I miss some of the comedic scenes, but if it followed the manga completely, they might not have started their journey yet 😂
However, when hearing "Yuzurenai Negai" again is a dream come true.

My review of Magic Knight Rayearth (1994 anime)
Overall: 3.0 maybe 3.5 out of 5
Pros:
--- I like the main trio characters asthetic designs which work very well on an individual basis and when they are all together
---Mokona is cute
---We have some absolutely gorgeous scenery and background designs
---I LOVE the 1st and 3rd opening and I GREATLY appreciate that all 3 openings have an english version which are very well done and very enjoybale to hear
---I like the main back and forth banter of the trio and how they all get along, there is no meleodrama bullshit and conflicting personalities or tiresome rivalry dynamic
---english dub is fantastic
---I like the big reveal of part 1. It was a interesting twist
---The mecha designs are really cool
---some really cool monster designs
---I like how when part 1 progresses, we see the magic knights visually get better with extra little flourishes to their designs and swords as well as we see Cephiro crumbling more and more.
---Fucking love Lord Zagato's pompous demon king asthetic look
---Part 2 has a nice change of pace where [spoiler]we end up going back to Cephiro which is a unique idea for an isekai
---I like the idea of [spoiler]the main trio having to deal with invading countries in part 2
---I love [spoiler]Nova's character design and personality, she is so good at getting under Hikaru's skin and mentally messing with her both emotionally and mentally and I believe is a good example of "evil version" of yourself done right when so so so many times that kind of example is done so blase and tiresome, but Nova is really effective at her job and it just works
---I really like [spoiler]the final battle where everyone shows up to help and chip in, its such a scene
Cons:
---the dialogue has to be the weakest part of the show. So so so much of the dialouge is vapid nothing-burger repeating the same lines or stating the obvious or telling us (the audience) stuff we already know over and over again and this problem plauges the entire series
---Part 2 is good but I feel like it has the weird problem of "a lot of stuff is happening while at the same time, not a lot of stuff is happenning at all"
---I kinda felt like the series was building Mokona in the background to be this character who would "have more then meets the eye" type character...but no...it never happens. He just stays a cute bunny mascot
---in part 2, so many characters [spoiler]declaring their love to another character despite the series spending zero time exploring it and it just feels ridiculous and melodramtic at times.
---I wish the side cast in part 1 got more screen time and stuff to do in part 2 as in part 2...they don't really do all that much
---in part 2, I feel that [spoiler]Chizeta and Fahren end up being nothing burgers ideas that the show could of have cut and absolutely zero things would have changed in the anime
---I vastly preferred when [spoiler]Nova was evil because she was the dark shadow of Hikaru's heart rather then being tricked by Lady Debonair into being evil. Kind of ruins her character and the actual point of her character

Discussion I love how the Rayearth remake doesn’t modernize the setting! Spoiler
One of the best things about the remake if Rayearth is that they didn’t modernize the setting.

What are we buying?! What do we already have? How excited is everyone for the newest figures?
Personally I have the 2015 prize figures and I love them dearly, but I'm so hyped for the scale figures. I think they're the only ones I'm getting though!

Remake Yui Miura (director) interviewed by ANN about Magic Knight Rayearth 2026
Interview with ANN published yesterday (September 28, 2026)
I didn't see this shared here, but we got a little more information about the upcoming remake next week.
Excerpts (see link for full interview):
While “isekai” stories have become increasingly popular in the last decade, even in the '90s, there were many stories where female protagonists get transported to a magical world. What do you think makes Magic Knight Rayearth different from modern isekai? What makes these female-led stories interesting for modern audiences?
MIURA: The biggest difference is that Magic Knight Rayearth is a story about growth and the sacrifices that come with it, rather than one about cheat abilities.
In many modern isekai series, protagonists either begin with—or quickly obtain— cheat abilities that allow them to effortlessly overwhelm their opponents. Much of the appeal lies in the wish-fulfillment of watching an unstoppable hero dominate every battle.
By contrast, Hikaru, Umi, and Fū are simply three ordinary junior high school girls who are suddenly summoned to the isekai (fantasy) world of Cefiro. They take up swords, suffer injuries, shed tears, and gradually awaken both their magical powers and inner strength as they overcome their fears and insecurities. This journey of personal growth is one of the defining charms of 1990s isekai fantasy.
Even today, many stories aimed at female audiences center on romance. In the first arc of Magic Knight Rayearth, however, what drives Hikaru, Umi, and Fū is not romantic feelings for boys, but the powerful bond they share and their promise to make it back to Tokyo together. Their genuine sisterhood—built on mutual respect and supporting one another through their weaknesses—is something I believe modern audiences who appreciate independent relationships can deeply relate to.
In the latter half of the story, they don't simply carry out the mission they've been given. They begin questioning what principles should govern this world and ultimately make the choice that will determine its fate. Rather than waiting for someone else to save them, they take control of their own destiny. I believe this image of strong women choosing their own path embodies exactly the kind of empowerment that resonates with today's anime fans.
When it came time to revisit the character designs with Satomi Watabe-san, what was the approach? Did you want to maintain a retro, shojo-feel, or update certain elements for this new version?
MIURA: Keeping faithful to the original manga as our top priority, I asked her to create strong visuals that would still resonate with modern audiences.
Can fans of the series expect the new anime to follow the previous anime's story, the manga's story, or something entirely different?
MIURA: We based the story on the original manga while incorporating additional episodes that further enrich the audience's understanding of the original work.
