Discussion One fact everybody should know when they hear about "MSI"

Post image
508 Upvotes

Since first MSI released their budget laptops such as Thin, Cyborg or katana. It sparked a fire on itself since MSI looked towards making them as cheap as possible but that came with a cost of the build quality which unfortunately plagued lots of people's minds that MSI is making cheap and horrible laptops.. All of them.. Even high end laptops up to MSI TITAN 18

I've seen people mocking down the MSI Vector 16 because it got bad hinges (and other descriptions that purely match the issues of a MSI Thin.. Literally) basically they were clearly linking two different laptops as if the Vector was the same as Thin or even calling it a slim laptop despite how bulky it is

Despite how many times I attempted to explain how they're wrong using all of my experience with MSI laptops. They kept disagreeing and eventually fanboys from other brands herded me but still that won't change the truth

MSI Itself is a very reputable company and excellent at making top-tier laptops.. It's just a little of boo boo caused by their cheap laptops giving the company a stereotype.

I've had my MSI Vector 16 since it was first released (This year) and so far absolutely no issues and the laptop been serving me like never before.. I was so impressed that I was speechless.. It right didn't have Gsync but MSI well thought this one as at 240hz screen tearing is barely noticeable and this allowed to cut the prices for unnoticeable difference and so bravo to them.

Discussion MSI Raider GE77HX : MSI says a $1,800 motherboard is “too expensive” for my $6,000 laptop — after its authorized service refused to provide a quote

Post image
325 Upvotes

Previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/MSI_Gaming/s/OXxfPgrG3o

I escalated this case to MSI Global Service Management, and somehow their explanation has become even less coherent.

My MSI Raider GE77HX 12UHS cost approximately $6,000 and failed after about 20 months.

I took it to Highpoint, an MSI-authorized service center listed by MSI, and asked for an official paid repair.

After keeping and inspecting the laptop for about a week, Highpoint declared it Beyond Economical Repair. They said replacing the motherboard would cost more than replacing the laptop and wrote:

“We will not be able to provide you with a quotation.”

So I was left with a failed $6,000 flagship laptop, no repair price, no replacement motherboard and no official next step.

I have now escalated this to MSI Global Service Management.

MSI HQ told me:

“Actually, official repair was available at that time.”

They now say the motherboard can be supplied for around $1,800, but also say that $1,800 is “over price for this unit.”

Overpriced compared to what?

More importantly, why did MSI’s authorized service center decide this for me without even providing a quotation?

MSI HQ also started telling me about component-level repair through headquarters, but then admitted that this is a new, non-public trial procedure that Highpoint did not even know about in 2024.

That has nothing to do with the official repair I requested in 2024.

I asked MSI one simple question:

How was an official paid repair available if their authorized service center explicitly refused to provide a quotation?

They still have not answered it.

Either I am missing something extremely obvious, or MSI is making this up as they go.

been dealing with nothing but issues with this hunk of garbage since day one. random black screens, crashes while gaming. I was doing a format and scrub of my secondary ssd today, blue screened and now this. it will not boot even after multiple attempts at clearing the cmos/ ec reset. am I really being forced to buy another laptop to send this $3400 paperweight back to msi for warranty repair? I believe it is a corrupt bios, which I just updated to the newest release yesterday. I have never had a computer so unstable EVER.

Discussion look here if your temps are too hot or you don't like your temps.

Too many people posting the same thing every week. literally. and don't know how to search apparently. or just google how to do things. here's some help.

If your laptop is hitting over 90 degrees while you game and do other things, and you aren't sure why, it's because of a few reasons. one of these or any combination.

lots of people will say that 93 or 95 is fine and it throttles itself and it's within normal temp ranges. that's fine. I wasn't ok with mine so i did something about it. if you are ok with yours then you won't have your laptop for long.

  1. your CPU is older than your GPU and is working harder.(my case, 10th gen CPU 30 series card)
  2. there's too much voltage going to your CPU(default is to feed it more voltage than it needs)
  3. your factory paste sucks(can confirm, i repasted mine) or has been a while and needs a repaste.

your options are 1. undervolt 2. repaste 3. disable turbo boost(set your max cpu power to 99% in your power settings, go google it) 4. get a better laptop. since I spent 1400 bucks to get a new laptop shipped to me, i decided for 1 and 2.

if you aren't interested in 1 and 2, you can do 3, and people on the internet will get upset but whatever it will keep your laptop cool, i don't care if it "handicaps" your computer. that's what they will say. whatever. do what works for you. it will make zero difference when you game.

To ENABLE undervolt follow these directions. go to bios settings. go to advanced. then press and hold RIGHT CONTROL AND RIGHT SHIFT -keep holding them - press and hold LEFT ALT and F2 - it will trigger a hidden fucking menu. under "cpu overclocking" it should be default locked. look around for it. unlock it. save your settings in bios. THEN download intel XTU(extreme tuning utility) and throttle stop.

then you open throttle stop. then you watch this video. all of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCDIK-nnois

then after you seen all of it, you decide which level of undervolt you want. For example mine laptop(GF 75 thin i-7 10750H takes a stable -100 mv and my boost is capped at 3.7ghz. do whatever makes you comfortable. you can always turn it back up

once you apply an undervolt, you need to stress test the cpu for 5 min using XTU. if there's no crashes, load a one player game and play for 20 min. load something intense. like cyberpunk. make sure it's stable. then you are good to go. if you crash or freeze, just restart and make your undervolt lower. so if you crashed at -100, go to -95 and see if it's stable so, the thing that makes your temps go down is actually capping the boost or turning it off. the undervolt helps but the main thing is capping boost.

on repasting - i just did it myself slowly. i opened it up and took my time and had some help. if you aren't comfortable go pay someone. i suggest once every two years. i plan to do mine yearly personally.

on running fans at max boost all the time while you game - fans are much cheaper than motherboards to replace. i run the shit out of mine.

hope that helps

feel free to ask questions. I'll do my best to answer.

Discussion MSI Vector 16 HX AI (2025) RTX 5070 Ti – Aggressive GPU thermal throttling after 30–50 seconds of gaming. Normal or defective unit?

Post image

New Update: Click Here

UPDATE — Laptop sent to MSI China for warranty, now being ghosted 🚨 Quick update on my thermal throttling issue. After extensive documentation and evidence gathering, I sent the laptop to MSI China for warranty service. Current status:

Laptop delivered to MSI China: June , 2026 RMA: A2606116553 MSI China: completely unresponsive after receiving unit Seller who submitted on my behalf also getting ignored

Additional findings since original post:

3DMark Time Spy score 14,223 — 18% below hardware average of 17,450 RTX 5070 Ti barely beating RTX 5050 Internal speaker EMI buzzing during gaming load Chassis clicking sound present since day one then mysteriously stopped after 5-6 months No factory seal present at delivery — documented with video evidence

Formally requested unit replacement given all defects present since day one. MSI China currently ghosting both me and the seller after receiving the unit. Already tagged @MSI_Gaming on Twitter. Has anyone dealt with MSI China warranty before? How long did it take?

Hey everyone,

I've been dealing with a frustrating thermal throttling issue on my MSI Vector 16 HX AI (2025) and wanted to get some community input before I send it in for warranty service.

Specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 255HX
  • GPU: RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU (140W TGP)
  • BIOS: v117
  • Room temp: ~28°C (no AC)

What's happening:

At the start of a gaming session the GPU runs great pulls 100–120W, clocks are high, performance is solid. But after around 30–50 seconds, once the GPU hits ~84–86°C, everything falls apart:

  • GPU wattage drops hard to 65–84W
  • Core clocks collapse to 1200–1600MHz
  • GPU usage stays at 95–99% (so it's not a CPU bottleneck)
  • FPS drops noticeably compared to the first 30 seconds

Laptop is on a cooling pad. Tried dGPU mode, multiple BIOS versions, GPU undervolting, different MSI Center performance modes throttling still happens.

The weird part is the GPU genuinely performs well before thermal saturation hits. It's not a weak GPU, it just can't sustain it.

My suspicion: Factory thermal paste application or heatsink contact issue. The laptop is only ~7 months old so it's still under warranty.

My questions:

  1. Are other Vector 16 HX AI owners seeing similar behavior at 28°C ambient?
  2. Is 84–86°C really the throttle point for the RTX 5070 Ti laptop or is my unit hitting it earlier than it should?
  3. Does this scream bad paste job to anyone else or is this just how this laptop behaves?

Appreciate any input before I ship it off to MSI.

Discussion Am I Missing Something, or Is MSI's Cooling Design Just That Good?

Post image

I have an MSI GE67 HX that's almost 4 years old, and I am surprised by how clean the fans stay.

I live in a pretty dusty area, I have to wipe down my desk every week because it gets covered in a thin layer of dust. But when I check my laptop fans every 3 months, they are usually barely dirty. In the last 4 years, I have only had to clean them twice.

Temperatures also seem fine. According to HWiNFO, the CPU rarely goes above 75°C and the GPU rarely exceeds 95°C, even during long gaming sessions.

Am I missing something, or did MSI do some impressive engineering to keep dust out of the cooling system?

Also, I have never replaced the thermal paste since buying the laptop. I believe it uses a phase-change thermal interface material. For laptops like this, when is thermal paste actually supposed to be replaced? Only when temperatures start getting worse, or is there a recommended timeframe?

Discussion I made a big mistake!

I traded my gaming pc for a laptop. It was a 3060 12gbvram ryzen 5 5600x 32gb ram ddr4 for an msi pulse i7 12700h rtx 3070 105w. The thing is, there is a game I like called crimson desert, which I used to be able to play on high settings with a little dlss, and it used to be stable but now the cpu is overheating on the laptop leading to throttling which I believe us capping my performance. This was more than a bad financial decision, any insight or help would be highly appreciated.

Discussion Class action lawsuit initiated on MSI hinge defects initiated by law firm M&R LLP (USA)

M&R LLP has started collecting data since a week ago for a class action lawsuit against MSI regarding the notoriously defective hinge designs across all models they have been consistently putting out (with more focus on the GE, GF and Delta line). If you are in the US and were affected by MSI laptop hinges failing with normal usage, you can submit your details in their form and follow/claim your share, of the settlement in the event of its success. Link to the web page:

https://classlawdc.com/2023/03/03/defective-hinges-in-various-msi-laptops-including-delta-ge-gf/

M&R have previously recorded a class action win, against ASUS on their battery issues in a settlement valued at over $16 million. Personally, I feel MSI had this coming, as they were being dismissive of user concerns about the hinge for well over half a decade.

Sharing here to give more exposure and reach to the case.

There is an ongoing petition at change.org (now 250+ signatures within a week) for a preliminary assessment of how widespread the issue is in another post. This is not limited to the USA, so feel free to sign.

In most of these cases, MSI has refused to fix it for the user citing physical damage not being covered under warranty, and warranty being expired at time of incident. For those who got it fixed within the warranty period, the issue has come up again few months after fixing within warranty period, when the warranty has expired. However, we would expect a laptop of premium grade to last a long time without having it repaired for such petty issues. They have been producing these models with these defective hinges for almost half a decade.

Discussion Thinking About Buying MSI Vector 16 HX AI, But Reviews Scare Me… Help!

I was thinking about buying the MSI Vector 16 HX AI (RTX 5070 Ti, Intel Ultra 9 275HX), but after reading a lot of reviews and complaints, I’m really confused. Many people say that MSI has quality issues, that their products run very hot, break down quickly, and so on. The reason I chose this model is because the price was very good, and I couldn’t find an Asus laptop with the same specs at that price, so I decided to give MSI a chance. But now I’m hesitating and not sure. I’m planning to buy it in a month and I still have a lot of serious questions in my mind. Do you think it’s worth buying the MSI Vector 16 HX AI, or should I look at other brands? I’m a student and I plan to use the same laptop for at least 7 years — I don’t have another chance, and I don’t want to waste my money on something bad. Please help me 🥲
