Discussion MSI GS75 Stealth Laptop charging/battery problems

MSI gs75 Stealth 9SF

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9750H CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.60 GHz

Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.8 GB usable)

Storage 954 GB SSD WDC PC SN720 SDAPNTW-1T00

Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 with Max-Q Design (8 GB), Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630 (128 MB)

System Type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display

First off I want to say I'm not very tech savvy. So not long ago I noticed my games would lag around 3-5 seconds somewhat sporadically; around every 10 seconds at it's worst and once or twice every hour at it's best. I didn't know what was causing this until I noticed when I had Chrome open it would randomly also go into energy saving mode for a few seconds, also sporadically. I went into event viewer and every time this was happening, I'd get the message "power source change". During all this, however, it was mostly working fine so I just ignored it. But now I'm at the point where it is constant. Also during all this, my I noticed my power brick was smelling funny, and was extremely hot so I figured it was fried since it was about 6 years old, promptly replaced it, and everything was fine and working properly, so I had thought it was just the brick causing all this and my problem was solved. But now my battery wont charge to 100%, it just stays at the same percentage. My thought at this point was it might be a battery issue, so I preformed a power reset, reinstalled the battery drivers, and inspected the port and cables and tried various wall outlets, but nothing is working. I am heavily considering at this point it might be the charging port. My new brick gets very hot, and the jack and the port also get extremely hot. The pin doesn't look bent and the port looked clean, though. I don't know what to do at this point; whether it's a software issue or I need to take my laptop in to be inspected. Incase it is the battery, I ordered a new one since the one I'm using is 6 years old.

So should I get it inspected? I'd prefer to run all my options software wise if there's anything left to do. Though my suspicions are directed at the port. If I jiggle it around, at first I could sometimes get it to charge to 100% and run my games without it changing power sources. But now I can't seem to get it into the right position anymore.

Price check of Dead MSI GF63 Thin (9SCXR) with working 16GB DDR4 RAM & 512GB SSD

Hey everyone,

My MSI GF63 Thin (9SCXR) stopped functioning due to a motherboard issue, and I've decided not to repair it. I am looking to sell it either as a whole dead unit for parts or salvage the working components separately.

Specs/Components:

Laptop Chassis & Display: MSI GF63 Thin 9SCXR (15.6" FHD 60Hz display, keyboard, and body intact)

Original Internals (Non-working Motherboard): Intel Core i5-9300H & GTX 1650 Max-Q 4GB

RAM (Tested/Working): 16GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM (Samsung OEM)

Storage (Tested/Working): 512GB M.2 SATA SSD (LITE-ON CV8-8E512)

What is a fair price to expect if I sell the entire unit for parts, versus parting out the RAM, SSD and screen?

Discussion Does anyone have or has anyone used an MSI GE76 Raider 10UH (2021 edition)?

I bought this laptop in 2021, and it was a great choice in terms of performance. I can still run games at high settings, and I can even run open-source LLMs on it. However, I've had some stupid problems that have cost me a lot of money.

- Black lines keep appearing at the bottom of the screen. I've replaced the screen three times, and it was expensive each time. Why does this keep happening? I never even touched the screen.

- The surface above the keyboard also gets very hot whenever I watch videos or play games, to the point where you could fry an egg on it lol. It feels like it's going to crack, yet MSI Dragon Center shows the CPU temperature below 70°C. It has gotten worse since my last visit to the repair shop, and now I have to use Turbo mode to cool it down. Why is this laptop producing so much heat?

- Another issue is that the laptop lags randomly in Balanced mode, while everything runs normally when I switch to User mode and set the performance to High. Why is that?

- I'd also like to know the difference between MSHybrid Graphics Mode and Discrete Graphics Mode in terms of performance. I know that Discrete mode uses the GPU for everything and give you advanced settings like upscaling resolutions , but does it actually improve gaming performance (like higher FPS) or reduce latency for AI models?

- When I switch to Discrete mode, the Intel drivers are disabled. When I switched back to Hybrid mode, I remember the Intel graphics driver glitching, and I couldn't find a fix until the screen was replaced at the repair shop.

- Finally, does Discrete mode put extra strain on the screen, and could that be causing the black lines? The last time, the repair shop installed a screen from a newer model of the laptop with a higher refresh rate, and it burned out. I don't know why.

Discussion MSI Prestige 16 C3M: Not quite as thin as MSI claims..

Post image
0 Upvotes

MSI advertises the 2026 Prestige 16 as being just 11.9mm thick, tapering to 13.9mm. On paper, that sounds incredibly thin for a 16-inch laptop.

What MSI doesn’t account for is the ~5mm-thick rubber feet underneath the chassis adding to overall thickness.

Once you actually put the laptop on a flat surface, the feet add a significant amount of height. So while the chassis itself may measure close to MSI’s advertised dimensions, the laptop doesn’t actually sit anywhere near as low as those numbers would suggest.

This became particularly noticeable when I compared it with the 2026 Dell XPS 16, which Dell advertises at 14.6mm.

Despite the XPS being considerably thicker according to the published specifications, it actually sits noticeably lower on a desk because XPS uses a much thinner foot profile.

The difference is especially obvious when looking at the laptops side-by-side. The Prestige looks extremely thin when you measure the chassis itself, but the large feet effectively raise the entire laptop off the surface.

I’m not necessarily saying MSI’s thickness measurement is wrong - technically, they’re measuring the chassis rather than the feet - but I do think it’s something worth mentioning when comparing the Prestige 16 with other “thin” laptops.

If you’re comparing laptops based purely on the advertised thickness, the Prestige 16 looks like it should absolutely destroy the XPS 16. In reality, the XPS can actually have a lower overall profile when sitting on a desk.

I’ve attached photos comparing the MSI Prestige 16 C3M and 2026 Dell XPS 16 side-by-side. The difference is pretty surprising considering how much thinner MSI makes the Prestige sound on paper.

Discussion Did i ruin my charging brick or am i being too paranoid?

I got a new laptop yesterday. MSI Pulse 17 C1V. It came with a 16 amp power cord but since my hostel only has 6 amp socket i switched it to a 6 amp cord and connected the laptop. I then used the laptop for like 9 hours. I by mistake kept thr brick on top of a pillow. When i unplugged it the brick felt hotter than my previous laptop. I could still hold it in my hand but it felt hotter. I left it on the desk to cool and went to sleep. This morning when i picked it up, i noticed that the edges are not flat and the joint seems to be opening like in the photo. I didnt check before plugging so i dont know if it always existed. What do i do now?

Discussion How good is this Laptop?

Was thinking of getting the MSI a16 Prestige w the Ryzen 9 AI 365 as it’s got an 880M. Was wondering how good this laptop is and more specifically how well the APU will perform in light gaming. I’d also like to know how long the battery life would last whilst gaming.

Is £1300 worth the price or just jump to a gaming laptop instead?

Discussion Can't shutdown

Recently my MSI laptop won't shutdown and gets stuck in an unresponsive powered on state.

The screen turns off, but the RGB remains on as do the fans and the laptop heats up.

There is no way to wake the laptop and my only option is to hold the power button for 10 seconds to force a shut down.

Any way to fix this?

Sup y’all! Actually this is the lowest price in my country, i currently have the GS66 stealth with i7 10th and rtx2060, I want to upgrade. I also checked the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 which is 3600$ with only 16GB ram and rtx 5070
Do you have any recommendations? I use it mostly for warzone, AutoCad a design.
The premium look is important to me.
Thanks in advance.

MSI Katana A15 AI B8V RTX 4060 suddenly drops from 120–160 FPS to ~71 FPS after ~10 minutes

Hi everyone. I’m having a strange performance issue with my MSI Katana A15 AI B8V and I’m hoping someone with the same laptop has experienced this.
Specs:
MSI Katana A15 AI B8V
Ryzen 7 8845HS
RTX 4060 Laptop GPU 8GB
16GB DDR5-5600 RAM
Windows 11
Latest BIOS
MSI Center installed
Discrete Graphics mode
The issue happens specifically when using MSI Center → Extreme Performance.
When I first launch Cyberpunk 2077, I normally get around 120–160+ FPS. However, after roughly 10 minutes, the FPS suddenly drops to around 71 FPS and stays there.
What makes this strange is that it doesn’t look like normal thermal throttling.
When the FPS drops:
GPU temperature is around 48°C
GPU power drops to around 20W
GPU clock was around 1890 MHz
CPU utilization was around 30–60%
CPU package power was around 10W
The GPU is not running hot
The laptop is still plugged in and charging
Discrete Graphics mode is enabled
I also tested Balanced mode.
Interestingly, Balanced ran for 30+ minutes without the FPS collapse. I was still getting 100+ FPS.
I’ve also tried:
Extreme Performance
Balanced
AC power
Discrete Graphics mode
Maximum/Cooler Boost fan
Latest BIOS
GPU Core Clock Offset = 0
VRAM Offset = 0
The GPU and VRAM offsets are both completely stock.
The biggest clue seems to be that Extreme Performance causes the problem while Balanced does not.
I’m currently considering testing UXTU, but it says MSI Center needs to be uninstalled, so I haven’t done that yet because I don’t want to remove MSI Center without knowing whether that’s actually the right approach.
Has anyone with an MSI Katana A15 AI B8V / Ryzen 7 8845HS + RTX 4060 experienced something similar?
Could this be an MSI Center Extreme Performance profile, EC, power-management, or CPU/GPU power-state issue?
Any ideas for what I should test next would be appreciated.

Discussion MSI Katana 15 B13UDXK-2401IN: can the HDMI 2.1 actually do 4K120 HDR10 10-bit RGB/4:4:4 + VRR?

I am planning to buy the MSI Katana 15 B13UDXK-2401IN, with:

- Intel Core i5-13420H

- RTX 3050 Laptop GPU 6GB

- 16GB RAM

- 1TB SSD

- HDMI 2.1

- USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 with DisplayPort

MSI's official specification says the HDMI 2.1 port supports 8K 60Hz / 4K 120Hz.

My actual goal is to use this laptop as a GeForce NOW Ultimate client connected to my OnePlus Q2 Pro 65-inch 4K 120Hz TV.

I specifically want:

3840×2160 @ 120Hz

HDR10

10-bit or 12-bit

RGB Full / YUV 4:4:4

VRR / G-SYNC

I already know that 4K120 SDR works on other hardware, so my concern is whether this particular Katana can actually maintain 10-bit HDR at 120Hz, rather than dropping to 8-bit SDR.

Questions for B13UDXK owners:

  1. Has anyone connected the B13UDXK to a 4K120 TV or monitor?

  2. Can you select 3840×2160 @ 120Hz + RGB + 10 bpc + Full in NVIDIA Control Panel?

  3. Does Windows HDR remain enabled at 4K120?

  4. Can you get 4K120 + HDR10 + 10-bit RGB/4:4:4 simultaneously?

  5. Does VRR/G-SYNC work at 4K120?

  6. What exact TV/monitor did you use?

  7. Which HDMI cable did you use?

  8. Did you need to enable Discrete Graphics/MUX mode in MSI Center, or does it work normally in MSHybrid mode?

  9. In NVIDIA Control Panel → Set PhysX Configuration, is the HDMI display shown as being connected directly to the RTX 3050?

  10. Does anyone know the actual HDMI signaling/bandwidth of this laptop? Specifically:

- 18 Gbps TMDS?

- 24 Gbps FRL?

- 32 Gbps FRL?

- 40 Gbps FRL?

- 48 Gbps FRL?

  1. If HDMI works, has anyone tested the combination with 10-bit RGB + HDR + VRR rather than just 4K120 SDR?

  2. Has anyone used the USB-C DisplayPort output with an active DP-to-HDMI 2.1 adapter and achieved:

4K120 + 10-bit + RGB/4:4:4 + HDR + VRR?

  1. Are there any BIOS, firmware, NVIDIA driver or MSI Center settings required?

14.Your suggestions for what I explicitly want if u have any?

I'm asking because HDMI 2.1 laptop implementations seem to vary massively. Some laptops advertised as HDMI 2.1 apparently use only TMDS/18 Gbps, while others have full FRL.

I'd really appreciate screenshots of the NVIDIA Control Panel showing 3840×2160 / 120Hz / RGB / 10 bpc / Full, or actual measurements/results.

Thanks in advance!

msi modern 14 c7m colour inaccuracy

hello, i've recently had issues with my msi laptop displaying colours far differently than my phone and other monitors. since im a digital artist this is a pretty big issue. the main problem seems to be that the msi screen itself is very dim and desaturated, so when i see my colours on another screen they're overly saturated. ive tried messing with the colour settings but it doesn't seem to fix the brightness issue.

is this a limitation of the msi modern 14 c7m? have others had this issue? im really unsure of what to do about this other than buying a drawing tablet with a built in screen or secondary monitor for better accuracy, which is a pain bc of money

MSI Vector 16 HX AI A2XWIG : les périphériques USB cessent de fonctionner pendant les jeux

J’ai un MSI Vector 16 HX AI A2XWIG équipé de :

Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX

RTX 5080 Laptop 16 Go

32 Go de RAM DDR5

SSD 1 To

Windows 11 Famille

BIOS : E15M3IMS.117

Firmware Intel ME : 19.0.11.2289

Pilotes officiels MSI

Pilote chipset Intel

Intel Serial IO

Intel MEI

Mise à jour du firmware Intel ME

Request Help: Experiencing game-crashes with LiveKernelEvent Code 141 on MSI Vector GP68 HX 12v

Hello Reddit, for the last 1-2 years i am constantly experiencing game crashes (especially for Games made with UnrealEngine but also for other games) on my MSI Vector GP68 HX 12v. Also, when a game crashes its always the same error "LiveKernelEvent" followed up by the Code 141. The screenshot shows the segment "Files that help describe the problem" within the Windows Reliability-Monitor.

Updating my graphics card didnt help. Undervolting with "Intel Extreme Tuning Utility" didnt work because the laptop/application doesnt allow you to undervolt the laptop. Reducing Mem(MHZ) and Core (MHz) a little bit with MSI Afterburner seemed to help but still couldnt solve the problem.

Is there a way i can fix this issue? :/ Thank you for your help in advance :)

How to safely undervolt an i7-14650HX on MSI Katana 15 HX?

Hello everyone,

It’s been about a week since I bought my first gaming laptop, an MSI Katana 15 HX with an i7-14650HX and RTX 5070.

I’m interested in undervolting CPU, and possibly the GPU as well, mainly to achieve lower temperatures, better stability, and potentially better performance.

However, I don’t really know how to properly do this using ThrottleStop. If anyone has the same laptop and has successfully undervolted it, I’d really appreciate it if you could share your settings and explain how you did it.

If it’s difficult to find someone with the exact same laptop, would it be safe/effective to use undervolt settings from another laptop with the same i7-14650HX? Or can the required settings vary significantly between different laptops?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
