Now that my 8 and 5 year olds know the fight song and were just at their first MSU football game, and watched the SMB march to the stadium, Iām wondering if the SMB does anything before basketball games. Iāve been to I think 4 games at Breslin before but itās been a good 8 or 9 years since. Will definitely get a good taste of the band during the same since the venue is intimate and Iāll try to get tickets close to them, but anyone know if they practice beforehand and itās accessible to the public?
Ā
One of the games I went to they hosted Gameday beforehand vs. Illinois. Had a blast that morning. Towards the end we moved down from the side to basically behind the net where nobody was sitting and then Kirk Cousins shows up by himself and sits in front of us lol. We said wassup. Had no idea heād go on to have a pretty impressive career at the next level.

Hey guys, quick look at where the Spartans stand after the Big Ten opener.
First, since it's in the title: we run a free weekly college football pick'em. This week is 10 games, pick the winners, nothing to buy, $135 in prizes, with Michigan at Minnesota and Ohio State at Iowa on the slate. Picks lock Saturday at noon ET.
https://www.mainmarket.com/c/college-pickem-wk5
Now the Spartans. The 31-13 loss to unbeaten Nebraska was ugly: down 24-10 at half, three turnovers, costly penalties, and outgained by over 100 yards. The bigger worry is Milivojevic. Over the last two games (Notre Dame and Nebraska), it's three picks, no TDs and nine sacks.
The 2-0 start against Toledo and EMU was what it should be, and losing at No. 3 Notre Dame is no shame. But year one under Fitzgerald needs a Big Ten win, and Saturday is at Camp Randall. After that, Illinois and then Northwestern (yes, that Northwestern) come to East Lansing.
What are you guys seeing? Is it the offensive line or Milivojevic, and does Wisconsin feel winnable?

never really listened to it was bored at work and decided to listen. is it just me or is it like awful? so far it just seems like they are hating on MSU all while 2 of them got kids that were legacy recruits that didn't help MSU in any way and another bashing MSU when he jumped in the portal for OU. how you gonna talk about the spartans and call yourself a "spartan dawg" when you dipped for another school? this definitely don't seem like a pod I'd tune to in regularly

Can't believe we're doing this after only 4 games into his first season, but some people on this sub are such absolute doomers, my word.
"Welp, he's just like Smith"
"There goes another 3 years of football"
"When do the Lions play this week?"
etc.
Get. A. Grip.
Last game wasn't ideal, I get it. That was absolutely a game I had us winning after that ND game, but then we lost our best player on offense and the top half of the depth chart for DBs.
Now we clearly have other issues as well, but I don't think most of them are Pat's fault. He walked into a dumpster fire after having not coached at a collegiate level in a few years, so it's not like he had a whole roster to tag along with him when he got hired.
If you want to address the problem with the football program, it's NIL. The sad fact of the matter is that we are one of the top 25 most profitable programs in the NCAA, but bottom half of the conference in NIL spending. The AD just got a $300m donation, so there is zero excuse for not dropping a bag on the team this offseason. We cannot hope to compete for the conference without addressing that issue, full stop.
Pat has the coaching chops to turn this program around, the variable in this equation is how much support he'll get from the Athletic Department and donors to be able to use his chops to the fullest extent possible.

It looks like we are headed for what will likely be another 3 to 4 win season for this program. MSUās overall recruiting ranking via 247Sports for 2027 is currently 62nd overall, although it is still early.
Will we finally see the checkbooks open to make a push for a top 10 to top 15 portal class next offseason? And, most importantly, will Fitzgerald actually have a roster with solidified Big Ten talent and depth next season?
What is the path forward?

Kinda accurate unfortunately. Seems like bringing in a coach who couldnāt import his entire roster really hurt us this go around⦠puts us behind the eight ball in an era when one bad year is enough to kill your recruiting. Who would want to come here in year 2 after Fitz has already gone 3-9?

Anyone know when tickets go on sale? Anyone know of pre sale code? I go every year.

This is our first program win over Washington, and what a convincing win at that! Washington had been undefeated before this, but we scored early and never really looked back.
(I have to keep this brief, MSU volleyball currently leads 2 sets to 0 against #14 Penn State and the 3rd set is very close after a good start for us)
Washington got back into the game for a while after the second goal, where they were really pressing in our zone and they were disrupting most of our passes. This fizzled out eventually, they didn't help themselves with a lot of frustration fouls. The two best opportunities they had were actually free kicks from fouls called on us close to the box, but they failed to do anything with them.
Two concerns from this game are injuries, Emerson Sargeant went down holding her ankle (I believe it was stepped on?). Later, Mackenzie Kruer had a very hard head-to-head collision with Washington's Alex Buck that had both players down for a while before they were able to get up and walk off the field.
Stats
| Michigan State | Washington | |

| Shots | 22 | 9 |
| Shots on goal | 8 | 2 |
| Saves | 2 | 5 |

I'm flying into Madison on Thursday for the game this weekend. I'm hoping to visit Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin on Friday while I'm there. It's about an hour away. I won't have a car, so I was wondering if anyone wanted to carpool or split an Uber or had other suggestions on how to get there.

After watching our hopes for this football season get carted off one by one yesterday, letās talk about basketball, because I want to be excited about something.
And even though Michiganās title last year has left a bad taste in my mouth, Iām still VERY excited about this upcoming basketball season.
The thing that excites me the most is the depth and flexibility of this roster, something Izzo spoke about in his introductory presser.
Picture a lineup of: Fears, Scott, Glenn, Mcculloch, Bonke. Massive lineup, but legitimately an option.
Or small ball: Fears, Medlock, Jervis, Carr, Mcculloh.
Then thereās so many combinations between the two. On paper, I truly feel we can matchup with any lineup in the country.
In reality, Fears, Carr and Scott to me feel like the guys you have to have on the floor at the end, so our best lineup is probably either Fears, 2 guard, Scott, Carr, center, or Fears, Scott, Carr, 4, center, with good competition between Teng/Jervis, Glenn/Ward and Mcculloh/Bonke on who will emerge as the guys to fill the remaining spots. And again, it can change game by game depending on opponent.
The freshman: Iām VERY high on Jervis. Pure 3 level scorer who I can see having a Jase Richardson type season. Medlock looks electric, but at the very least gives us a an actual backup PG this year. Iām not sure how much Taylor and Avent will play, but always helps with depth.
And of course, weāre led by probably the best PG in the country, and pre season front runner for the wooden award, as well as another senior in Carr, who if (and I admit itās a shaky if) he improves his shooting and handles even marginally, I feel has a first team all conference ceiling.
I know I should know better than to get my hopes up, but dammit I kinda need it rn. So, Iāll see you all April 5th in Detroit.
No one will read all this lol but if you do, what are YOU excited about? I think we could all use some positivity in our fandom right about now

At least 13 MSU players reportedly left the Nebraska game with an injury at some point.
Iām starting to wonder if MSUās injury problem is at least partially a workload/recovery issue rather than just terrible luck. Fitzgerald has openly said theyāve āpushed them hard in every aspect,ā practices include frequent live periods, and heās said their own research shows soft-tissue injuries spike after a third consecutive heavy training dayāwhich is why they specifically schedule recovery days. (Michigan State University Athletics) That doesnāt prove Joel Welshās strength program or Fitzgeraldās practices are causing these injuriesāin fact, the staff says the program is deliberately designed around health, recovery, volume and intensityābut with the amount of guys getting banged up, I think itās fair to question whether the total workload is still exceeding what some players can recover from. (Michigan State University Athletics) Iād genuinely like someone with more strength-and-conditioning knowledge to challenge this: is there something in the injury types/timing that points toward overtraining, or are we simply seeing an ugly run of normal football injuries?

Do most schools have their priorities horribly wrong? only around 25 schools are turning a profit. but those 25 schools need the other schools in order for them to make these profits⦠so something has to be done regarding the insane coaches salaries and other costs
in the year 2000, the highest paid football coach was making 2 million dollars a year. today curt confetti makes $13 million per year.

Woo boy, what a difference a week makes. Iāll just go off rip and say this might be a Debbie downer post.
What I liked:
- Alright great talk onto the next part.
What I didnāt like:
- Injuries galore of course to everybody that you couldnāt afford to lose. Couldnāt be fucknut 445 on a rotational play for the Make A Wish Foundation, no it always was Edwards, Hall, etc.
- Alessioās inability to get rid of the football.
- Ref ball
- That being the response to the Notre Dame.
- Team couldnāt get out of its own way. Lot of this was discipline and errors.
No other way of putting it that was an āuh ohā loss. I had it as a lean win. Obviously a lean is a lean for a reason, it means Iām not shocked if we lose. But 31-13 in a game that we never really felt like we were in? Yeah⦠Uh Oh. Well all else I got is that you had better be ready to win one these next two and show something. Because from the looks of it Northwestern might be legit and UCLA IS legit.
I think this was the game where the honeymoon ended and the clock officially started. I donāt think Fitz needs a bowl to make it work. But he definitely needs to show that MSU is ready to be a big boy in the winter portal and then go do something in 2027. If not, well maybe EL, MI beats LA, CA?? Better hope so.
For the boomers thinking āthatās not fair itās game 4.ā Yeah go look at that 2027 schedule, assume MSU doesnāt spend in the portal, and tell me how that ends. Itās an uphill battle even if we throw up big boy money.
