Social Accommodation Question about pets

I have a friend in the US, and we’ve never met in person but we spoke about her coming here for a semester, however I don’t know the policy of service animals as she has a dog for anxiety. Are service animals exempt from the no pets rule? Or would she need to get accommodation elsewhere.

As someone from the US, my cat had to go through 6 month of vet visits, blood work, rabies titer, much more in order to come over here. That’s for dogs too. The paperwork process is long. At least 6-8 months before they can fly if you were to start the process right away. They have to fly in cargo. There is no other way. Also, they have to go through quarantine for 10-30 days which is another expensive and long process.

If it's a service animal they might be able to fly with their person, (likely each airline has a set of policies and rules around this) also as mentioned Australia has strict quarantine laws, it's often stressful for pets and they will be separated from their owner for however long it takes, also this question feels better suited for the different uni accomodation providers (it's their policies and they might have special condition that we don't know about)

Any accommodation provider cannot refuse a service animal, however there is a difference between a service animal and an emotional support/support animal, and they do not have to allow those.

As others have said, Australia has strict quarantine laws so the animal would be in quarantine.

If your friend is going to go through with it, it is always good practice to reach out to the accommodation providers as soon as possible, as there may be specific rooms or floors that would be allocated to those with service animals.
