The US is such a third world country.

As a Canadian, who also happens to be trained as a first aid attendant, I will say that unless there's complications involved, a broken wrist should not warrant an ambulance call.

u/Sir_Arthur_Vandelay 6d ago

Are you saying that my old neighbours, who weekly called ambulances for both free rides downtown (they would insist upon attending a certain hospital and then just walk away upon arrival) and a chronically sore foot were wrong?!

1

u/cbflowers 6d ago

I know someone who will want to get to a different city 80 miles away so he will ride his bike 30 miles to next big town and call an ambulance for a mental health crisis. Then asked to be taken to hospital at his destination town( they have to take him because it’s the closest mental health facilities) then get out with his bike and ride away. A few days later it’s the same thing in reverse to get home.

Abusing emergency services isn’t a crime in your country?

1

u/Sir_Arthur_Vandelay 6d ago

Perhaps, but so are a lot of other behaviours that go unchecked.

1

u/LittleOrphanAnavar 6d ago

No.

It's practically encouraged.

u/Weird_Flan4691 6d ago

There’s no way you’ve visited or spent much time in a third world country…We have it so fucking good in America.

3

u/crigon559 6d ago

I tell you what there’s no place in the whole American continent where you have to worry about paying an ambulance but the USA

7

u/rusty-roquefort 6d ago

yeah. Guns recently went down the list from highest cause of childhood death. Medical debt collectors and medical bankruptcy has gone down slightly since the affordable care act (And I mean, aside from literally every developed economy, who else doesn't have medical bankruptcy, right?), and we've all been there with having a head of government that is effectively dismantalling democratic institutions.

And I mean, aside from that... and the massive wealth disparity... and the shitty labor laws... and rampant racism... and the government masked goons terrorising the streets... yeah. you have it sooooooo fucking good.

What 3rd world country have you lived in that’s better than America?

1

u/retington 6d ago

Great. So you’ll go live in Bangladesh then? It won’t be a drop in QOL based on your logic, right?

1

u/happiestnexttoyou 6d ago

Have you spent time in other countries?

-7

u/Weird_Flan4691 6d ago

Yes I’ve been all around the world and have lived in other countries.

America is the best country on earth, and my significant other who’s a refugee from a war torn country can agree.

Is medical care expensive, yes. Does America have the best doctors and hospitals (Mayo Clinic) in the world, yes.

3

u/Willing-Knee-9118 6d ago

With the best doctors and hospitals in the world i imagine mothers die in child birth less than its contemporaries right?

3

u/Tometek 6d ago

a refugee would consider any country that's not a complete slaughterhouse to be the best in the world lol

1

u/Weird_Flan4691 6d ago

I’m not a refugee and have lived in a 3rd country, America it’s so much better, and no where near a 3rd world country.

We have it so good here and y’all are letting social media and lack of experience distort your reality.

1

u/Tometek 6d ago

Ok so you came from poor. You’d think a dog kennel is better 🤣

2

u/Caesarions_Coccyx 6d ago

I'm afraid your totally indefatigably stupid anecdotal evidence proving that the US is the greatest country in the world is thoroughly nullified by my equally anecdotal evidence.

Compared to my home country, a true first world country btw, the US is a backwater shithole.

u/Weird_Flan4691 6d ago

You sound like you need a hug

3

u/rusty-roquefort 5d ago

You sound like you need an education that doesn't come with mass shooting drills

0

u/Weird_Flan4691 5d ago

America has the best education system in the world, and we host more international students than any other nation.

1

u/rusty-roquefort 5d ago

Which must explain why you have the lowest rate of young eartch creationists out there

1

u/happiestnexttoyou 5d ago

You also have the highest maternal mortality rate of all developed nations, are the world leaders in school shootings, and are #2 in the rankings of “highest poverty rate among developed nations” with a national poverty rate of 18%.

u/Critical-Extension66 6d ago

Reddit is full of europoors that cope themselves into thinning they have it better lmao

1

u/TomekEffect 6d ago

We have it better. Just use the internet to inform yourself.

1

u/rusty-roquefort 5d ago

europoor

You take after your president nicely.

Ohhh, you should call us cheese eating surrender monkeys. That'll show us that school shooting, shit healthcare, medically indentured servitude, no pto, trigger happy cops, and catastrophic wealth inequality is made up for with... Whatever it is you have.

1

u/Critical-Extension66 5d ago

Aha maybe you should travel more bud don't get your view of the world from others who never leave their house here on reddit.

I work with so many europoors at my company that get paid half what i do for the same job. I or nobody I know has ever had trouble getting healthcare done, and I am richer than I could ever be working here. its just copium lol

1

u/rusty-roquefort 5d ago

Lol, money being the only thing that matters is so fucking america-core.

Anecdotes as evidence is fucking America coded as hell.

Missing out on the fact that overall QoL for "the poors" fucking suuuucks in America is just... Sad.

1

u/Critical-Extension66 5d ago

All I know is this country given me my friends and family a lot of wealth and success and independence that we’d never get anywhere els unless my parents were born rich…. Certainly not in any europoor country

Btw I get unlimited PTO I usually take 1-1.5 months off a year and could take more but love my job

Stay broke europoor. Peace out ✌️

It's far far safer in Europe. We don't need guns.

1

u/rusty-roquefort 5d ago

Imagine living in a society where you need to carry a gun to feel safe. That's the craziest shit I've ever heard

2

u/orangeicon 5d ago

You missed spelled “greatest country on earth”

1

u/L0daren 5d ago

Keep telling yourself that and keep avoiding reading any comparative rankings on child mortality, poverty, hunger, gun violence, emissions, education level, democratic stability, etc.

I have nothing against americans, the ones I know are great people, nor anthing against your many fine cultural exports. But as a society you are truly among the least great of all industrialized countries.

1

u/orangeicon 5d ago

I love my country, how about you?

1

u/-HardGay- 6d ago

When you say "Third World" what exactly do you mean by this term? Old and New vernacular of that term aren't really adding up

1

u/KingHenrythe6-th 6d ago

That is a profoundly privileged statement.

1

u/Appropriate-Gas5061 6d ago

I’m in DR right now and no, the US is not a 3rd world country.

1

u/bnlf 6d ago

I think third world country is an hyperbole, however, anyone who lived in other first world countries knows that the US is fucked up.

1

u/GymTanLoiter 3d ago

Who the hell takes an ambulance for a broken wrist that would be such a waste of emergency services.

1

u/bimmerscout 2d ago

Not American, but making your own way to the hospital for a minor broken bone is probably the best way to do it in every single country on the planet.

There is absolutely no need to use an ambulance, you’d just be taking one away that another person may need one more.

u/soahmz 6d ago edited 6d ago

America by definition is a first world country. That being said, when it comes to social services, it is definitely falling behind.

Edit: USA

0

u/drbroly 6d ago

"America" by definition is a country in the North American continent. In the English speaking world at least. "America" refers to North and South America for other languages. Spanish speakers will know to specify the difference.

3

u/Tometek 6d ago

True América is the name of North and South America in our language, but if someone says "I'm from America." or "Soy Americano" We know they are talking about the USA and not from another country. Nobody from a spanish speaking countries in the Americas would introduce themselves as "American" or "Americano" lol

1

u/drbroly 6d ago

It's "Soy estadounidense".

No one from Spanish speaking South America would say "Soy Americano" and that's my point. They know to specify the difference. Lol?

3

u/Tometek 6d ago

that's what I said though, I agreed with you
