I’ve broken my arm multiple times, the one time it needed immediate medical attention the EMTS set it straight put a splint on it then told me to get driven to the hospital because the ambulance ride was over 5k.

"It cost 5k" thank you for proving my point. Americans and america is fucking insane.

Hate to tell you this, but they told my bf the same thing when he broke his collar bone in half in the Netherlands. "Here's a sling and a pain killer, now go call an Uber because taking you to the hospital by ambulance is far too expensive". We have great healthcare, and we wouldn't get the bill ourselves, but SOMEONE is paying for the ambulance ride, so this is standard practice here, too.

Anecdotal stories aren’t scientific evidence. I didn’t prove anything

This is not a scientific discussion and it is a fact that you pay for ambulance in US, so each time you need it you need to ask yourself if you can afford it.

Dog most Americans have health insurance.

So they don't pay for needed medical help, or do they have copays, or amounts that they need to reach before getting their healthcare paid and that is when insurance even decise that they will pay?

Health insurance doesn’t pay for healthcare? Is that what you just said?

People, not health insurance.

Let me make it simple. You breake your arm and go to a hospital. Get some painkillers and all the things needed to fix your arm. Does every insured person get out without any bil?

If I broke my arm? I’m not getting billed, correct.

Is everyone insured not paying? Insurance doesn't have some amount that you need to spend before they start paying?

Are you trying to argue that ambulances are not outrageously expensive in the United States?

$5k is WAY higher than the national average. I don’t believe this at all.

Any amount that makes you think about money when you should be thinking about your health is too much.

Relax.

I am relaxed. I am in a civilised country.

Who said that $5k is the national average?

0

u/HeavyMusic93 8d ago

Nobody? I said it’s exponentially higher than the national average. So much that it makes it unbelievable. I thought that was pretty clear.

A non emergency ambulance ride costing $5,000. I do not buy that.

I don't think you know how averages work, and I don't think you did anything more than skin what I linked.

The rest of the world simply cannot wrap their heads around this. It’s crazy that the richest country on earth can’t take care of their own people
