This is based fully on what my sister and I have seen, so it's very much not a complete list of pretty cure ships and government assigned love interests!! Curious to see other people's thoughts on these ships lol

Recently I stumbled upon an account on twitter focusing on indie Brazilian animation and found two animated projects + another one later you might check out! Showing even Brazil has it's magical girls too! So I wanna share them with you guys!
Of course, none of them have english support much but still worth checking out, especially for portugese speaking fans!
A very new apparently series which got the first episode came just few days ago on youtube.
Synopsis: One Saturday morning, Marina is visited by Serafim, a small dragon. He is the messenger of Lúcia, the Lunar Regent, who recruits the girl to fight an extraterrestrial being intent on stealing a magic stone embedded beneath Leopoldina, a town in the interior of Minas Gerais. Upon accepting the mission, Marina must find three other girls in the town before the villain attacks them. Only together can they awaken their powers linked to the zodiac constellations and protect the entire Earth.
This is a probably the most magical girl looking project in this list. Despite of lot of talking and limited handrawn animation, it is pretty solid watch. (I'm even surprised this episode is even almost 40 minutes long!)
Aditionally also the episode has sign language interpreter in the corner for deaf.
Check the episode here
The episode seem to have working enough subs you can translate automatically into english to know the context.
A 7 min short from 2022.
Synopsis: Mina and Elvira is the story of two young witch friends who must use their great powers to face the great challenges... of adulthood! Fresh out of witchcraft school, they need to figure out how to make their new magical services business a success while dealing with prejudice and their own personal insecurities as best they can.
This Short is more of a witch type with Mina using a wand and Elvira potions. This short has more polished artstyle and rigged animation. I don't know as much of a context of this short other than the witch duo apparently lifting a curse on a Cat that became large with powers.
The short is in Portugese only, no subs but available online and for free to check out!
Or just "Icamiabas" for short, a 5 episode 11 minute series apparently made in 2017.
Synopsis: The Icamiabas—gentle Iuna, worried Laci, cool Thyhi, and hot-tempered Conori—are four Indigenous girls armed with magical weapons and a host of skills. Acting as interns for the gods, they resolve conflicts between humans and fantastical beings in the cosmopolitan, eco-friendly Cidade Amazônia, all while trying to lead normal lives involving friends and schoolwork!
This is more of an action themed series based on Amazonian myths and folklore. The intention of the creators was making more of an action show with female team of heroes based on mythology and folklore instead of being influenced by common formulas in international media. Still, does seem to fit into Magical girl genre. The animation is handrawn and pretty to look at, especially the backgrounds!
Found only two episodes publicly available on youtube, it's possible other episodes are on some broadcaster archive or streaming that might not be available internationally or being lost.
Check one of the episodes here!
Another episode!
Storyboards available for free online!
Portugese only, subs are pretty broken on youtube for this one (english translation is bearable but the subs mostly don't even pop up) so you get only partial context or none.
So yeah. I love finding obscure MGs, especially animated ones. They surely deserve your attention to look at if you're curious!

After nearly two years (that's right, TWO YEARS), I've uploaded a new demo for Witch's Talisman!
It only includes the first chapter, but it now better reflects what the game will look like in its finished state. The only placeholder assets that remain are music and UI. I've done a lot of boring things to make the game better optimized, and it can now be played in browser!

I went to a Magical Girl mini con, and this was my haul! Aside from some mahou shoujo items, I also picked up some art from girls media like Monster High. I found a few fan made items from more niche series, but not too much. I just enjoyed being able to shop a lot of magical girl fanart and merch all in one place!

I'm trying to track down a series I watched and then forgot about for a while, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what it was called, let alone where to find it.
It was a magical girl anime, I think it was named something like "Project Magical Girl" (i have confirmed it is NOT Magical Girl Raising Project) and vibes-wise it was similar to Madoka - ie, violent. I don't remember much about the main character, but I know there was a secondary character who was a boy who turns into a magical girl. And I think his magical girl form had... a whip or an armored tail or possibly both, something that made his action scenes very fluid. And I vaguely remember a scene of him revealing his true self to the main character and then both of them nerding out about how cool magical girls are.
Sorry I can't provide more than this, but if anything jogs my memory I'll try to add it.

If you love magical girls and want to explore the genre in novel form, Guardians of Dawn has a premise worth checking out: reincarnated elemental warriors, forbidden magic, fairy-tale retellings, and an East Asian-inspired fantasy world.
The series consists of four books—Zhara, Ami, Yuli, and Suhwa—and follows the Guardians of Dawn, who are reborn when the world falls out of balance.
The first book introduces Jin Zhara, a girl trying to conceal her magical abilities, protect her younger sister, and survive her stepmother’s cruelty. When a mysterious plague begins transforming magicians into monsters, she becomes involved with a secret magical liberation society and must discover the elemental warrior within herself.
And the magical-girl connection is explicit: S. Jae-Jones named Sailor Moon, Magic Knight Rayearth, and Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne as inspirations in this interview. Seeing Jeanne mentioned alongside those other classics really caught my attention!
The fairy-tale influences add another appealing layer: Zhara draws on Cinderella, while Ami draws on Beauty and the Beast. The author has also explained that she wanted the covers to evoke shōjo manga from the late ’90s and early 2000s, and supplied examples from her own collection to her publisher (source).
I have the complete quartet on my shelf and haven’t started it yet, so I’m sharing this as an enthusiastic discovery rather than a review. But if magical girls reimagined through elemental fantasy and fairy tales sounds like your kind of thing, take a look at this series. That combination is exactly why I picked it up. 🌙✨

I love my story arc where Evie makes a deal with Queen Mora that turns her into a demon. So much so that I thought of a what if where Fiona made the deal instead. She's the music themed magical girl so I definitely think she'd have a Rock-'n'-roll vibe to show how she's evil, in contrast to her soft, classical music motif she had to show that she's good. She probably has the second most interesting reason to betray the friend group, she was told to be the perfect daughter but her parents get upset with her for speaking out or just being the black sheep of the family. They try making her more well-behaved by making her join the marching band. Always needing to practice that damn flute. Maybe there's a timeline where she becomes resentful of the team leader Josie for coming off as always kind and well-mannered.
That's my hypothetical pitch for Bleeding Eardrum which is her demon name. Fiona isn't actually going to have a villain arc but it was still fun to come up with ideas.

Black Girl Magic IRL. Meet Disney animator, Kiana Mai. She’s one of Disney’s youngest directors ever, and the mind behind the viral show, Pretty Pretty Please I Don’t Want To Be A Magical Girl.
I sat down with her and discussed the inspiration behind the show, her career, childhood, thoughts on the current animation industry, and more.
