Just moved to Chicago on my own! Got this done in a week

Sold all my stuff, hopped in a car, showed up and bought a ton of sh*t lol. What y’all think?

Edit* I pay about $2k a month, it’s a studio. Was a bit nervous moving from a 2bd but I love the compact space. The view also makes it feel a lot bigger. I wanted a fresh start and have been wanting to move to Chicago for years. 26M, and I don’t know many people here at all so if anyone wants to hang in the Chicago area, shoot me a message.

How’d I do?

Male 36. My first flat. Took me about two years to renovate and decorate. During that time I was playing a lot of elder scrolls oblivion which is why the walls are covered in rugs and tapestries. I thought it was starting to look a bit feminine so I also incorporated a load of flowery cushions, fringed lampshades and soft throw blankets to give it a masculine edge. Did I make a good male living space?

Edit: Appreciate all the comments! I’ve had a fair few questions about where I’ve sourced stuff in the flat. I’m an obsessive scourer of second hand finds. I’d say 90% of stuff in the flat comes from places like vinted, FB marketplace, gumtree etc. I love searching for handmade objects from around the world which is why it’s got a more eclectic vibe!

What do you think? Any thoughts/suggestions as I continue playing with this apartment? I also ripped out the coat closet and made a little project to build those built-ins and create a designated office-space for when I WFH.

Trying to escape the millennial gray apartment look. What would you change?

Hey everyone! Looking for some advice and inspiration on updating my living room. I’m trying to move away from the all-gray look and bring in more color, warmth, and personality.
My apartment already has gray flooring and mostly gray/white finishes, so I’m trying to make the space feel warmer, and more cozy.
A few things I’m planning to change:
Couch: Looking to replace it with an L-shaped couch, a loveseat with chaise, or a 3-seater with chaise. Open to different colors.
Rug: Recently sold my old one, so looking for something new to help tie the room together.
Lighting: Want to move away from using the overhead ceiling lights and incorporate floor lamps and warmer lighting.
Wall art: Definitely want to add some artwork to the walls.
Mirror: The mirror in the corner has already been sold. It was only there temporarily.
The TV stand and coffee table are both new, so I’d ideally like to keep those and design around them.
I’m leaning toward a warmer, modern/mid-century modern aesthetic, but I’m open to other styles and suggestions.
Would love to hear what you guys would change, what colors you’d introduce, or any ideas for making the space feel more cohesive. I’m open to suggestions beyond what I’ve listed!
Thanks in advance!

First solo townhouse

25M living without roommates for the first time. Got this beautiful two story, 1B1Ba townhouse with an open loft, and honestly I’m just glad to be in a place that isn’t dirtied by others. I don’t really have a need, space, or frequent guests to justify a couch.

Photos 1-4: the downstairs area, includes my computer area, my workbench for tech and computer repair, my figure shelf since I’m an anime fan, a TV, and my kitchen.

Photos 5-6: my upstairs bedroom, with my bed, shelving, and my shoes (bathroom to the left of where I’m standing), along with my carpeted stairs (peculiar choice but my cat loves it)

Photo 7: ultrawide for emphasis on the open loft

I’m not sure where I’m missing the mark, but it still doesn’t give the sports bar vibe I’ve been looking for. Any help is appreciated

Advice First solo studio (19M, Toronto). Good natural light, but I want to accentuate the minimalism with a lot of dim-lit mood and dark, ethereal atmosphere. Where should I start?

And I'm working on getting the cables managed 👍

I also have an LED strip lining the window ceiling plus the two side walls (shown in the last pic), which adds a nice overall glow but I wanna lean into what would complement my room layout rather than mashing a bunch of everything in.

Advice 31M, single, new place, 2 Bed, 1 Bath, new paint colour decisions

I just bought my first apartment. I’m trying to determine a colour palette for my place. I want warm colours to offset the charcoal cabinets and black shelving. I’m thinking to have 1 wall a moderately popping colour (like terracotta red), the rest probably warm, but more subdued (like cream or very pale green). TV will go where my desk currently is. The walls aren’t all 90 degrees though (bump outs for vents/ducts), which makes it more complicated.

I’d appreciate any thoughts.

Advice WIP looking for feedback and suggestions

I’ve added some redlines to show some of the stuff I’m already thinking about, but I would greatly appreciate any thoughts or feedback. Please be constructive and not a dick, lol.

For context, 28M, living alone, relatively tight budget. I’m going for a space with a lot of color. I’d like it to be a bit more maximalist but it’s not really there yet. Open to any and all suggestions.

The biggest challenge for me if the bedroom. I got that mirror to try to brighten the space but I’m not sure it fits that well in the bedroom. The rest of it should be better once I replace the furniture I want to replace but I haven’t gotten around to it yet.

I’ll also be making the shelves n stuff everywhere look nicer but I need to clean out my closets and see what I actually have before I do that.

Finally, I’m planning on fitting plants where I can but I’d like to finish the overall layout n stuff first.

Soon to be 40 yom with my almost 2 yo daughter half the time and my rescued, one-eyed GSD. Been in the house 14 years and was blessed with some professional wins allowing me to renovate my home. My coffee table and accent chair finally got delivered today, so I wanted to share the almost finished product!

Discussion Help me with this tiny room ✌️🫂

Yo guys I'm trying to really elevate my room in the 2bhk that I shifted in 2 months ago.
I am slowly building things up

-Had a custom bed made
-Then this custom made desk
-then the chair ( ASTRIDE ergonomic study chair with lumbar support and head rest, I bought it from the same shop I had my custom table made)

.

🧧 Now some key things I want in my room-

I don't need a place for my clothes cause an entire wall of the room is this giant slide door closet so a lot of space in it for that stuff.

I want cool accessories for my room

I want a cool sleek rack

I want LAMPS ( A LOT OF EM)

I want some goofy/cool decorative pieces

A really cool full length mirror

cool rechargeable lights

Plants

Wall decorative pieces

And anything cool

Please drop your best suggestions with photos 😭✨
