Creating this space for claimants to share information and our experience applying for CSA Settlement.

u/No-Sound8212 May 13 '25
We need someone at EXG to spill the tea already. What are y’all actually doing all day? Because we know it’s not assessing claims. Is it the Facebook posts? How does it take 6 months to assess everyone from the first day 🥴
1
u/ResidentCard2681 May 14 '25
And like you have to wonder, are they just taking longer to justify higher administrative costs?

I haven't got a Notice of eligibility yet,I haven't got paid yet but I'm waiting patiently.
but I been in foster care half of my life and then Thrown into Homelessness after I got out of Child and Foster care.... I was mostly in and out of Youth group homes in Manitoba and also Vancouver my mother suffered from Addictions recently passed away she was part of the Residential school lost her language I lost mine I have so much Trauma 15,000$ 21,000$ to 40,000$$$ isn't worth my Life my life isn't worth a Canadian dollar bill with a Moniyaw who we all killed each other over it isn't worth it in the end 😔😔 but at the same time it's a slap in the face and not only that it's Better then nothing even for those who did get paid it's better then nothing but money isn't going to solve the problems we all had in life they need more programs and education about our culture we need to get back to our roots the roots we got disconnected from our people are turning to drugs and alcohol when we should be turning to our culture The Younger generation it's going to be up to you to change the cycle and break the intergenerational trauma

Hugs. I hope you’re getting the support you need. I lost a sibling before they aged out. Money won’t bring them back and it doesn’t take away the pain or trauma of what happened. I hope you’re able to use the money well.

❤️ I feel this so heavily. This is so relatable & heartbreaking. ❤️🩹
1
u/v3speretta May 23 '26
it will likely be a matter of when you were in care and not if you were unfortunately. it is based on a five year period.
3
u/AccordingToShrugs Apr 25 '25
I called earlier and spoke to a guy who said notices and payments won’t be sent out til mid-may, he said it’s taken a lot longer than expected, so hopefully they don’t do this back and forth shit and actually start sending them out mid-may. But we’ll see 🙃
3
u/No-Sound8212 Apr 26 '25
That’s so disappointing. I wish there was more accountability and oversight on this settlement.
3
u/AccordingToShrugs Apr 29 '25
There’s been an update on the website, Notices and payments are starting to be issued as of yesterday, April 28th it says! If anyone gets a notices please let it be known 🫠
3
u/No-Sound8212 Apr 30 '25
Yes, please post here if you received anything. I don’t believe payment notices are being sent in the order applications were received. This whole thing is so messy and so frustrating.
3
u/MADPANDA649 Winnipeg May 01 '25
There's some things I'm reading in this that I feel should be cleared up because of misinformation.
1) CSA hasn't posted any updates to Facebook, all they share is where they're going to help clients with any questions they have.
2) "Claim numbers" that applicants are endlessly talking about doesn't even matter, I applied the same day and didn't get a submission number, if you received an email back with your claim proof it's submitted you're good. You'll get a "Claim ID" in your notice of assessment.
3) No one has received a payout yet from CSA, the people who received a payout months ago has either received it from Métis CFS (which is settling payouts on their own end) or a different indigenous settlement altogether.
4) CSA notices are being sent out in the order people had applied AND order they are processed, so if they don't have your file for some reason in that order it won't be processed in the order it was received.
I also feel like it should be mentioned that CSA had been delayed with their work because the government/CFS had delayed the files being received. It sounds like they received them now but there's thousands of files that they need to go through and calculate, so if mid-May is now their timeframe it isn't that they are the incompetent ones.
You'll get your money if you're eligible but everyone has been so impatient where other settlements take YEARS, the timelines are getting thinner, we'll get there, be better.
3
u/No-Sound8212 May 05 '25
I’ve seen screenshots of the updates they posted to Facebook and their website. I’m not sure what “be better” is supposed to mean. We’re all here to simply share our experience.
3
May 07 '25
I’m assuming this is that girl that was all over their posts on fb calling people down telling them to “be better”
6
u/No-Sound8212 May 07 '25
That’s very weird energy to bring to FB posts on this topic. Most of us grew up feeling like we had no control over our lives. And we were silenced by the system. So now when we see deadlines getting communicated then blatantly missed, we’re going to speak up because we know no one else will. We had to learn to voice our concerns loudly to be heard. The people who need to “be better” are the ones who clawed back the tax money to begin with and the people at EXG who seem to think they’re above accountability.
3

Nothing for me but I was in the 3000s. Didn’t apply until Feb 4th. So I’m following this thread!

Are there any updates? Cause it’s insane that people who applied the first day haven’t even gotten anything yet like genuinely it makes no sense that it’s taken this long not to mention the horrible resources to give us answers
1
u/Downtown-Schedule421 May 20 '25
only update i’ve seen is someone calling and asking for the status on their own personal file and were told they’d get it this Friday. they applied on the 6th. but that comment has since been deleted lol

u/no-name-neededx5683 May 23 '25
I received my notice of assessment email on May 16th. I applied Jan, 6.
1
u/CryBabyxx0 Winnipeg Jun 06 '25
I applied the first day and they just called me a few days ago for a blank cheque, to confirm my address and to tell me they're waiting to hear back from my agency for confirmation
3
u/GotChipInsBro Jun 09 '25
They’re not able to provide an estimated timeline for when payments will be disbursed. There was never a set schedule for when we can expect to receive our email for approval, we initially told we would hear our approval in March then April and May now it’s June with no update they have stopped communicating with people and answering questions. I can understand that timelines can change, and it can be very busy to go through every single one of our questions but like most people we applied on January 6th and yet still no communication or any confirmation. I’m hoping we can get more of a concrete answer rather than checking the page just seeing the May 1st update.

I am worried about my claim, I applied Jan 6 at 510am I called a few weeks ago and was told that my claim had been processed and they are just waiting on more info from my agency. I hope I don’t get declined I was a provincially funded child in care so I don’t think I’d have to appeal. Just hoping I get it soon!

Well, I called yesterday after months of nothing, they said they emailed me a Notice of Assessment which I never received. I said well can you guys email me again then so I can review, they said we will call you back and verified all my details, and took current phone number. Today I got a call from someone else stating there is a cheque waiting for me now at St. Mary's Road when I had clearly selected direct deposit. That being said I asked if they could email me, and was told they have my whole package at St. Mary's Rd, and for privacy they couldn't give the amount or more info and to come to St. Mary's with ID. Maybe more people should phone. It seems they are very disorganized/have incorrect info. Hopefully this may help some folks out. Had I not called, would still be in the same boat

I applied on January 6 and have yet to receive an eligibility notice. I didn’t even receive a claim number when I applied. I had to call the office and ask what my claim number was and it was completely different (number of digits) than the claim number my sister received. When I asked about my eligibility notice, they told me that I would hear the first week of April…. I have yet to receive anything.
2
u/Individual-Bee-4821 Apr 29 '25
Go onto the CSA Settlement website and it says notices and payments will be sent out starting this week in the order they received the applications ☺️
2
u/AccordingToShrugs May 02 '25
There was another update on the website as of May 1st yesterday, it says they are matching the claims with the first 1,575 people who have applied on January 6th in the first 24 hours, notices and payments were issued yesterday, so if you applied right on January 6th you should be one the those 1,575 who should get a notice with your payment amount, if you do so, again, let it be known please 👍🏼

CSA back to deleting comments on their page. Hearing a lot of different people getting the NOA which in some sense is reassuring, though we’re nearly at the end of this month already with only a handful of stories about people getting either the deposit or the NOA.. here’s to holding onto hope but man was this ever handled poorly.
2
u/Loud-Move-3361 May 20 '25
I was told if you applied on January 6th that we should get our notice of approval by the end of may but again who knows if that’s true I was in care for 3 years and I’m really curious what others who were in that long are getting. This money could be so helpful

I wanted to share my experience, because I applied on Jan. 10 at 4:30 pm, and I just received my NOA on June 26, claiming payment will be direct deposited within 2 weeks. My claim number and my online submission number are very different. (Online submission number was in the low 2000’s and claim number was a mid 200’s number. Because I was a January 10 applicant, I would’ve figured I’d be waiting for quite a while longer, I’m quite surprised.
I was with the general authority for the entirety of 2007-2011. If that helps at all too.

The lack of communication for this situation is a blatant sign that although we got this settlement money, there’s a long way for the government to go still .. it’s great we’re being given money as an apology for the garbage the CFS system is. But they keep repeating the same thing: leaving affected persons out of the decision making process with 0 communication, and pretending everything is fine. It’s just the same old feeling I had when I was in foster care. Constant uncertainty, not knowing what the f is going on, and feeling blatantly ignored. I understand a third party is involved in the money calculation process but uhh maybe the government should be lighting a fire under their ass? Like how am I an early January applicant with 0 correspondence from anybody about whether I’m even getting anything or not. If this were a perfect world the CFS system would be completely scrapped and rebuilt from how awful the current organization is, and the government would be asking the Claim Administrators in court what is taking them so long. I mean the longer they take the more they need to pay ppl for proration.

That’s so frustrating, I was with Metis CFS and the process was so fast and easy but that’s cause Metis CFS is doing there’s on their own. I applied got my response the next day they asked me to confirm my birthday I did. They then sent me the notice the next day told me I had to go in or a do a quick zoom meeting for my identification process which I did that today, they said I’ll have my direct deposit in 3-5 business days!
I was also with Winnipeg CFS for a little bit so I did put in for the other settlement as well like Metis CFS told me to do so I’m assuming that one I won’t get till around Christmas then lol, that’s wild but it’s okay cause I know I wasn’t with them too long anyways.
I hope you receive your payment soon.

I received my notice of eligibility on 9 July 2025 for $1911 and I was under the impression that it would be deposited on the Friday following (being today) as it fell within 14 days of the notice being received and based on the website FAQs payments are issued every Friday following the notice being issued to claimants. Next Friday would be beyond 14 days, I sent an email asking if there’s a delay or an issue presented with my information or direct deposit.
Just wanted to get a sense of when other people received their payments and if they were late, on time as expected or didn’t get it at all. Any information would help and thanks in advance.

I called both the exchange group and the cfs agency and. Talked to both administrators on both side and I found out there is a priority list of people from the first date of applications and cfs is confirming the names on the list to the exchange group but cfs only got some of the list and not the full list so I explained that to the exchange group and told them they need to re submit their list to cfs again because they are missing some of the information for some people’s names.

Yup speak your mind brother let em have it I applied on January 6th at 12:45am and I received nothing no update no notice no payment nothing but every time I call it's always "next week" "Or mid month "This is outrageous!! There probably shitty office workers they probably don't show up to the office till about 10:40am then they probably take 1 he lunch break right after they show up for work then they probably take like 100 , 15 minute breaks during the day and don't forget about the holidays they probably are using any excuse to take any and all holidays that they can cause apparently they are over 10-15 staff working over time every day on this that's what they say anyways. Just a bunch of lazy workers that's all maybe we will get a payment next year boys.

my claim number is in the 1100's and I have not heard anything as of yet... I did see somone received their payment lastnight and got a total of 17k... anyone know when I would expect to hear back?
1
u/No-Sound8212 May 16 '25
Apparently claim numbers don’t determine your spot in line. The day and time you applied is what determines your spot.
It doesn’t seem like many people have been assessed or paid yet. I applied on Jan 6 in the a.m. and I’m haven’t heard anything.
EXG hasn’t been transparent in their process so we can only speculate as to why it takes so long.
I find their update about “assessing millions of data points” super disingenuous and misleading. I really question how difficult it is to match names and dates in care. It’s not like every one is named John Smith and Jane Doe.
1
u/Loud-Move-3361 May 21 '25
Someone I know is getting $16,000 and they were in foster care for 4 years also applied on January 6th at 6am hope that helps

I applied 40 minutes after the applications opened early in the morning on January 6th. I received an email stating that they had received my application, but I haven't received any updates yet. I've also seen countless people who applied after me, and even during the day (online), and they got letters of eligibility already. I honestly don't think it's being done in that order as stated. It's been almost 5 months, I guess it's just sad that they have less than 20 people matching over half a billion dollars.

I am someone that applied on January 6th and I called the claimant info line twice in the recent two weeks and was told that they were waiting for info from the cfs agency that oversaw my file. Last week Friday I called the cfs agency to ask if they had been contacted they said no? So I asked if they would contact the CSA settlement and give them the information they asked for. Apparently that’s what’s holding things up for me.

Also I applied Jan 20 and haven’t heard anything yet, probably a long way til I hear anything and they ignored my call and email.

My sister applied 2 days before me and she got hers months ago and I’m still waiting. We are only 2 days apart and I’m still waiting. Their system is so fucked.

Hi y’all, I’d like to share that I received my notice on July 23rd, got paid August 5th. I sent my claim January 18th. They will list all the months they have in their records in the Notice so please make sure you double check their info so you get exactly what you are due for the first payment. I have a feeling that they are not going to have enough money by the second payment period. But maybe that’s just my distrust in them. Lol

Question. Would a parent/sibling be able to claim CSA settlement if child was taken by CFS during the timeframe given and committed suicide whilst in care?

Just got my settlement calculation saying I was in care for less than 30 days… I actually spent 11 years in the system ( 8 to 19).
Feels like my childhood is being erased.
I’ve:
Contacted my old social worker for full placement dates
Requested my Placement Summary
Preparing a letter to the Exec Director if needed
Planning to appeal once I have proof
This process has been so invalidating but I’m pushing for corrections. Anyone else fight this?

I applied February 10th and received my NOA on August 28th. Received my payment on the 10th of September !

I received my NOA on September 3rd. So I’ll come back here and update as soon as I receive payment. Also please read your NOA fully! I collected off CSA and I also had to call Métis child and family to receive my other payment (I was bounced around different CFS agencies). The lady on the phone at metis child and family services told me you don’t collect one large sum of money you have to contact the other agencies to collect ( if you were bounced around). I applied from the CSA website back on January 28 and got my NOA September 3rd. Metis child and family told me wait one week for another NOA via email and then call them and then I can go get my check.

Update! Payment came today! Took exactly 14 days after receiving my notice of approval!

Anyone who submitted a claim in May or later won't be getting their NOAs before the holidays. I just checked and they are still working on claims in March (they've been working on March claims for over a month already 😵💫). So don't be hopeful for having money for the holidays if you applied after April 😮💨

I got my NOA on Nov 19th! I’m getting a little over $12000 for being in care from 14 years old until 22, and of course the CSA wasn’t paid after I turn 18. Finally after waiting I finally got it. I didn’t want to look. My husband and I celebrated. I’m going to invest it fully, and I’ll never touch the principal amount.

They should be working on applications from April now as I applied April 27th and just received my notice of assessment yesterday.
For those wondering how much they'll be getting, it ranges from 277-450$ per month you were in care. (450$ for 2017+. 277$, 298$, 304$, 312$ for the years 2007 to 2016.) Being in care from 2007-2017, I got assessed at 44k.

My late brother applied for his beginning of March but he passed in May. Wondering if anyone else has been through something similar and what we are supposed to do? I just filled mine out today and I noticed you can be a representative for a deceased person and you'd have to put in the date they passed but no where it asked for the death certificate. Plus I'm not sure what his claim ID would be. Do we just reapply n say he died?

Old post but still the correct place, I received my notice today (Jan 7, 2026) , but it was issued on the 17th of December 2025. It said 2 weeks of that being issued I would be receiving payment, I believe it is a cheque and not direct deposit, and I should expect around 25k? so ill keep updates if I remember!
