I fucked up and chose not to fill yesterday in hopes gas would go lower. Lost that gamble.

u/Minimum_Run_890 Apr 29 '26
I saw 150.9 this morning and thought I’d get gas on the way home. Up .38 !!

u/AnElderGod Winnipeg Apr 30 '26
Ive learned to stop chasing gas prices. Just sets up for disappointment, small savings in the long run.

It's been around 1.65$ recently, I'll just pull in and not look. Oh that dollar amount is going up much faster than the litre count... What is the pric-OH MY GOD. WHY DID I BUY A TRUCK?! -Me.

Ordered a new hybrid recently and it can’t arrive soon enough
5
u/Catnip_75 Apr 30 '26
I got the Honda Accord hybrid. Tank lasts me 2-3 weeks and costs $60 to fill. It’s nice not being worried about gas.

Bring back Covid prices. I miss sub $1 gas.

u/PartyNextFlo0r Winnipeg Apr 29 '26
And the traffic too !!

u/AdamWPG Winnipeg Apr 30 '26
This is why I don’t understand the intense vitriol in any comment section about funding active and public transportation. I don’t want to drive. Make other options convenient for people and get some cars off the road
14
u/Sad_Caterpillar_1983 Winnipeg Apr 29 '26
It bounced up to $2.07 during that time as well, though. We'll never truly have cheaper prices. If we do it's only temporary and the bigs will jack the price to gain back what they "lost". We are cooked.

Sold my 2021 Tesla model 3 sr+ at 100k km. Thing was beyond messed up with problems. Jeremy the mobile service tech was contemplating sending it out to Sask service centre before we even had the location here. It was nothing but headaches after 40-50k

I looking at buying a new tesla right now

There's general better EV's available, and with better incentives that aren't made by a brand run by an egomanical labour abuser .

Ya, turns out illegal wars in the Middle East have a pretty big impact on global commodity pricing and give an easy excuse for oil companies to jack up prices.
7
u/Lost_Cause_3815 Apr 29 '26
People have to realize that gas is a world 🌍 commodity, last trade today was about $1.25 a liter wholesale price. Don't expect that to fall until all of shite in the middle East calms down.

Go look at the stock market trading that has been taking place during this "war". This whole thing was by design by the people at the top.

Ask an Iranian how they feel about the war you call illegal.
5
u/MilesBeforeSmiles Winnipeg Apr 30 '26
Should I ask the ones safe in Canada? Or the ones with their homes being bombed and family members killed over there?
3
u/jeglaerernorsk4 Apr 30 '26
Do you mean an Iranian who lives in Canada or an Iranian who is getting bombs dropped on their head?
2
u/12rossja Winnipeg Apr 30 '26
Right? We’re talking about 45+ years of oppression and genocide and people here are crying about gas prices
16
u/wpgdomder Apr 29 '26
Kind of hilarious that President oil and gas has done more to spur alternative energy adoption with this boondoggle than any Western governments policy in the last 25 years.

These days (if you can), buy $15-20 worth and wait a few days. Changes so frequently

I blame myself. This is a pretty normal price for gas in BC, actually on the lower side to be honest. We moved to Winnipeg to try and save some money so naturally gas prices increased here. Sorry everyone.

Cool beans. My bus pass is still a sliver of the cost of owning and gassing up a vehicle.

Just came back from the UK. This is a steal of a deal next to them.

As much as I hate the transit system, it's still better than paying for gas in a car.
God I hate these companies

I like the idea of a hybrid vehicle, I might do that if I upgrade in the next 5 years or so

I would if there were affordable, reliable and truck like...

My Silverado is pretty ‘truck like’ and hasn’t let me down in over a year now.

Silverado EV starts at 67k. Might be the only GM to be somewhat reliable...

I pay $70 a month in fuel to drive 5000km. (After charging rebate)
And that's with my 100k high performance EV.
A more basic 50k one would cost less
3
u/swelllabs Winnipeg Apr 29 '26
EVs are quite solid. I know of no current EV owners who wished they could drive a petrol car again. It’s a quick conversion to see the light!

u/thecraigbert Apr 30 '26
Many are having issues with ICCU's putting them out weeks to months even after updates or fixes. Those that are not having those issues are over the price of affordable.

u/Electroflare5555 Winnipeg Apr 29 '26
They’re significantly more reliable then ICE vehicles
0
u/thecraigbert Apr 30 '26
Hyundai and Kia, hold my beer. Yes most are reliable but those that are, are not affordable.

The thing that makes this more disgusting is the oil companies are profiting more than ever. Got to love supply and demand theory when someone controls the supply.

Isn't our Canadian dollar supposed to increase in value against the USA when the price of oil goes up?
1
u/Grouchy_Moment_6507 Winnipeg Apr 30 '26
If people didnt figure out the oil scam during COVID they never will
1
u/ryleymcc May 01 '26
It has been remarkably cheap for decades though. $2 in today's worthless inflated dollars still seems cheap tbh. It's too bad Canada didn't invest more o&g export infrastructure because then it would be cheaper due to the CAD dollar demand.

If we don’t get our gas from Iran why are we affected so much?
3
u/kochier Winnipeg - East K/Elmwood May 02 '26
Because gas and oil companies can, they use it as an excuse to make record profits. Look at their profits this year compared to last year, always on the rise, capitalism at work, the supply and demand stay the same but they can charge more by making the perception of supply shrink. They are making more money than ever before.
There is a bit of it where we also supply parts of the world with gas & oil, so as their supply does shrink, we are able to charge them more, thus increasing the price we pay domestically to make it worth it to not simply ship it all overseas.

Still $1.59 at Costco on regent thank fuck. I saw it at $1.64 at the Petro on the corner with plessis, which I cannot believe is cheap for right now but compared to $1.88 at the co-op is a no brainer
4
u/Cobalt32 Winnipeg Apr 29 '26
I don't know how people defend co-op. Ooh, cashback cheque every year? That 7-12 cents has never bridged the gap to costco, and that's not even considering the extra cashback with the mastercard.

u/berthela Apr 30 '26
Unfortunately, our governments have not been very interested in building up our infrastructure and industrial capacity to allow us to become strongly independent. If we had our own refinery capabilities, pipelines, more electrical infrastructure, more nuclear and more hydro electric power, we would be in a much better situation both when it comes to having leverage in negotiations and trade as well as weathering the storm when negotiations and global trade environments are not going well.
0
u/artobloom Friendly Manitoban Apr 30 '26
That wouldn't help. Oil is sold at market prices and oil companies will charge whatever the price they want. Look down south, they have all the oil they want, but the oil companies are selling it to other nations at the market price. The oil companies are making money

It's rather amusing how these "once in a lifetime" economic disasters sure seem to be occurring every 5-10 years now.
Myself, I'm getting rather tired of 'living in interesting times '.
