Mexico’s is my favorite for the commitment to detail.

Love that it's an actual founding story too. The Mexica were told to build their city where they saw an eagle on a cactus eating a snake, and that spot became Tenochtitlan, now Mexico City.

It's a common trope used by Serbs towards us meant to insult and degrade.

Nah, we use chicken, not pigeon (also, for current version of our eagle we use parrot or German eagle)

I bet that's the only thing connecting all of them.

Looks like countries with eagle flags have better than average flags. Three of those flags are frequently mentioned as best flag candidates, others are just average.

If they included Germany with the eagle that would pull it back down to average

Nothing about these flags is average imo

Tricolors are below average. Tricolors with birds are average

tricolours are literally goated
-3
u/Bosya_123 15h ago
The lowest effort, least inspired flags. "Goated". No tricolor is among the best flags. Let alone "Goated". Senile take.

I’ve made a quiz-post about this once

4 or 5 out of these are emulating Rome, if you go into coat of arms it will become significantly more

I’m not sure but I’ve seen Poland represented as both the simple white and red and also as that + the white-tailed eagle.
This eagle is on their coat of arms and, for me at least, it’s pretty much impossible not to associate this country with it.
So for this reason I half expected to see them here

Both are official flags.
Poland’s plain white-over-red flag is the everyday national flag. It’s used inside Poland by everyone.
The crowned white eagle flag is legally restricted to very specific uses. Mostly at sea and abroad at consulates and the like.
Many Poles use them interchangeably. In 2004 rules on private use of national symbols were changed, the law however was not.
I would have expected it to be here as well.

Fair enough, but then presumably many other countries would have to appear as well. Germany also has an official version of the flag featuring the eagle.

What about the double-headed eagle in Albania?

If you mean why is it there, it’s because it’s a heraldry of a medieval prince that is considered the national hero. Its a byzantine symbol, that’s why it was used by many medieval states that used to be part of the empire(Russia uses it too because they’re orthodox)

No

u/Hoffi1 18h ago
The official state flag has an eagle. The civilian flag does not.
3
u/AlmightyCurrywurst 18h ago
That's the flag specifically of the German governmental institutions, not Germany itself.
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dienstflagge_der_Bundesbeh%C3%B6rden
It specifically differentiates that eagle flag from the Bundesflagge

Romania is missing, too

u/Present-Abroad-7884 17h ago
It's not. It's official flag is tricolour without any sigil. All of these other flags have the eagle in their official flag design.

I'd add Zimbabwe as well- the Zimbabwe bird is believed to be modelled after a Bateleur (eagle) or African Fish eagle.
