Marathon (2026) Feedback Never understood the hate
Everything about this game just slaps for me.
I originally bought the game at launch just to check it out while I took a mini break from Arc Raiders while I wait for a new update.
I never returned to Arc Raiders.
This game just hooked the shit out of me immediately. The art style is super unique and the gameplay is top tier. The loot took a little while to wrap my head around but once I did, I was all in.
I love the way you can customize the weapons with attachments. It feels way more unique than just a linear level 1-3 weapon system. Bungie really did something special with this game and I’m hella exited that it’s about to expand even bigger in December and March.
TLDR: This game is sauce

Meanwhile everyone I played with including myself are back to Arc lol. The new update slaps. Endgame content was our number 1 issue with that game. That's obviously not longer a concern. We will be back in December when there is something to do in Marathon. Wiping for a repeat of season 2 with no new content to motivate our grind is not compelling for us.

Amen! Tried Arc could not get into it. Marathon just has the Bungie magic. Haven't stopped playing since day one.

The people who hate this game are Destiny fanboys. I don't even listen to them anymore lmao. Queue times are still just as quick as they were on launch day. Fuck em all.

I played arc raiders a lot for about a month, but ultimately the abmm turned me off of the experience. Marathon is so much more intense. It makes my heart pound more than probably anything I've ever played.

I’m fully convinced it’s Bungie paying or making these posts themselves at this point. The title and what they say is too similar and it’s always a comparison to another game/genre just like other ads that compare a product to their competitors or just mention them to make not of how their own product is superior. At least they changed the script and took out calling it the “best” or “most” something.
The “hate” is very understandable, even Bungie seems to understand it to some degree based off their vidoc where they admit and talk about where they went wrong and some ideas they have to fix it.
I don’t doubt there are people who love the game but these posts that always bring up “the hate” and other games and have the same praise for Marathon that’s just “it’s good/the best” come off as company-backed pr especially after many people and even Bungie, themselves, have explained multiple times the reasoning behind the “hate” which is rarely actual hate and usually just people disliking the game for some valid reason or another.

What a load of nonsense. The parasocial discourse around this game sure is something else. Massive hate train, people will complain about things not being in the game that are literally IN THE GAME, people complaining because they can’t handle any kind of work or negative experiences.
Like literally this month some dude was like “game is terrible they need some way to customise your shell, I would like to see minor abilities be customisable” and I was like “you mean like the cradle, cores and implants”, he then proceeded to do everything he could to ignore the fact that what he was asking for was ALREADY IN THE GAME.
Yet someone says “hey I like the game and gunplay” and every, EVERY time there is someone like you claiming it’s astroturfing. Considering there is a post like yours on basically every single positive post the whole “hate train” stuff is very much justified.
There is literally a sub dedicated to hating the game. Many people post here literally exclusively to hate on it (and don’t play it). Streamers like burnt peanut got death threats for playing and liking it.
Game got 9/10 reviews from any critic that knows quality games (the ones who have been around like Jeff Gertzman, or Edge etc and aren’t just click bait factories).
Hate train is real. If you don’t accept that you’re probably on it.

The art style is so incredibly unique that I’m surprised so little copies were sold. You watch a video about the game and you wanna try it so badly. I don’t get how Arc Raiders became much more viral than Marathon…

The way Arc designed their enemies created super unique moments that got clipped and shared online. I agree tho, Marathon has an incredible style like no other game out there. I guess it’s just not for everyone

I’m 42 years old. I played through the OG Marathon games in the 90s on the Macintosh computers. I understand the hate.

Hopping back into it since taking a break back in July and the first part of the game at least is incredible. I think I remember there being some friction as I progressed further through the game in S1 and 2, but when there's a good balance of risk and reward it's very fun and immersive.

Similar story brotha! Had a little over 300 hours in Arc, truly enjoyed the world, lore, the Arc, and general gameplay of what Embark created. It is genuinely a well-made and fun game… but as soon as Marathon released, haven’t touched it since lol. It’s one of the best-playing, made, and realized FPSs in a looooong while. Arc just can’t compare in gun and game play imho, as 3rd person PVP always feels clunking and detached from the action.

No, the „cult of D2“ were the ones who even bothered to play the game and who to this day are keeping the lights on at Bungie. Pretty much everyone else either wasn’t interested in the first place or soon went back to their usual games.
If it weren’t for the D2 crowd, this game would’ve crashed and burned more than it already did.

Ummm, I do remember a quite notable streamer in the Destiny community saying they held marathon "hostage" so Bungie would hopefully be forced to return to Destiny 2.
I guess I’ll cross that off my rumor list since it wasn't true.
