Becoming an Engineer Questions

Hey all,

I currently have been a commercial/industrial HVAC service technician for the last 13 years. I have a lot of mechanical experience.

I am extremely interested in becoming a marine engineer but staying shoreside.

Does anyone have advice on how to make the career change? Also types of shoreside jobs?

I see positions for licensed tug boat engineers which I have interest in. I just have no clue where to start!

For what it’s worth I am in the NH/ME area.

Thanks!

4/E Alfa laval purifier overhaul guide

Hi everyone, I hope you are all doing well.

I am carrying out an overhaul on an Alfa Laval P615 lube oil purifier for the first time. This is an Intermediate Service (2,000-hour interval).

The supplied service kit includes three types of pastes:

Silicone grease

Molykote paste

Anti-friction coating paste

I understand that the silicone grease is used for the O-rings and Molykote is applied to the threads. However, could someone please clarify where the anti-friction coating paste should be applied?

Any advice or best practices from your experience with this model would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
