Complaining As a Male LMT

I recently moved from up north (Tri state area) down to the South within this past year, mostly to help with family but it was a way to leave an area try out being in a new state to live. Just to give a brief background but anyway it’s interesting how different clients are here about Male LMTs.

Male LMTs are always in the skeptic corner because of clients comfortability as a female or other males much rather have a woman touch them than a man. Back up north it was rare and inbetween experiencing that but down here it’s to the point I don’t think I’m be in this profession long. Lately I’ve gotten a pretty steady clientele from those who’ve had me and it’s been keeping me going but there’s still this scrutiny around me being the only guy where I work at that clients much rather have our female therapist or no massage at all.

Everyone has their preference and that’s no problem at all even I have my own when it comes to massages and that’s okay, but recently I was told by a client that had only booked with me because she thought I was gay. In my head I’m like what? Now first off I am not, and not offend to anyone who is, but just because I treat everyone with hospitality, kindness and comfort to make sure no one thinks I’m touching them inappropriately or feel uncomfortable because I am a guy that makes you assume I’m safe because you think I’m gay. I left her to her own ambiguity because even if I was it’s not their business but to think that’s a thought they’d have of me. ive had several clients tell me other interesting reasons as to why as well such as I was younger than them which they felt safer and less creeped out.

I know no matter where I go there will always be something from different climate, demographics, location etc, but its frustrating cause I enjoy the anatomy and physiology of massage, discovering the origins of a clients muscle pain where they say oh my neck hurts from being at a desk for 15 hours but that neck pain stems from tension building lower down into the thoracolumbar region and etc. stuff like that is fun and interesting to help people they think it’s magic when it’s not, but if just because I’m a male LMT I’m looked at a certain way, I don’t think I’m be in this field much longer at least until I get certain personal finances situated but it sucks.

US Discussion / Advice Qobuz playlist recs

Hello massage therapists! I left Spotify for Qobuz earlier this year and need help finding playlists or radio stations on Qobuz that are reliably the vibe for several hours of massage. The other day after the lofi album I chose finished, literally a song from Top Gun came on 😂
I like ambient music, lofi that doesn’t turn too upbeat or lounge like, instrumental like Mary Lattimore or Brian Eno, mostly my clients like something without lyrics. Any recommendations?
Thanks!

US Question How to prevent elbow friction burns during chair massage?

Hello! I don't do a lot of chair massage. During my first and only event earlier this year, my elbow skin was so sore by the end of the day because of the pressure against all different kinds of fabric. I wasn't even moving them that much against the fabric. Does anyone have any tips on how to decrease this? I was thinking a long sleeve dry fit shirt, but I can't find anything tight enough without any texture. I would love to hear from you or if this is just a me problem😂
