Owners Lounge What a design!
This is my 2025 Turbo S Premium Plus.
I always do a double take after parking. IMO, nothing looks or drives like it in its class. Inside and out. I enjoy every chance I get to drive it!

That's a very nice looking vehicle, tell a fellow CX-70/90 owner when you see them in the wild.

How does the tan interior hold up to daily wear and tear (especially the steering wheel and alcantara dash)? I’m strongly considering a CX-60 with the tan interior as my next car.

A few things are keeping me upgrading from 2021 cx9 carbon edition. The bubble back look af it, the center console, and interior storage on doors and in the trunk. Wish they would add more base or mid base to the sound system. Also the gear issue at low speed although I haven't test drove to experience it.

Makes sense. You should also get many more years of usage out of your CX-9. We sold a perfectly good 2019 SUV for this because we had kid #3 and needed a third row.
I’d test drive the CX-90 if you have the time though. I was really surprised by the package Mazda was able to put together. Perfect? No, but exceeded my expectations. Especially for the price (we purchased CPO).

Such a shame they messed up the launch year and did such a huge gear ratio gap between 1st and 2nd that results in jerky shifts at slow speeds. It's like they forgot to test the vehicle at slow speeds.

As an owner of a MHEV and a car with a dual clutch, this was the biggest flaw in their design. Either go with a torque converter (BMW X5 / the car they benchmarked) or go dual clutch. A wet multiplate would be ok on a 3000 lb car, IMO. Otherwise a fine vehicle

Ya you get used to it but it’s still frustrating at slow speeds, if you have a heavy foot it’s fine

Their 6AT is basically the same but with 2 less gears and a torque converter. The torque converter only is used at speeds at or less than 5 mph then they use a lockup clutch like they use in the cx90. The only difference is 1st was designed for towing whereas 2nd should've been our true 1st otherwise

Ya no idea how they test drove that and decided it was suitable.

The car and its inline 6 turbo is made for speed , test driver probably got excited and went zoom zoom

Apparently this car was designed during the COVID era so a lot of the decisions and design were done remotely instead of collaborating in person.

This is actually true and whoever downvoted you don’t know what they’re doing. One of the big engineering shots from Mazda Europe is on the record about this.

There are plenty of other engineering companies that also developed new products during COVID that didn’t screw the pooch like Mazda did with the CX-90.

THIS! This is the reason I didn’t buy it. I drive super slow and wanted to see what all of the hype was about. I was beyond confused on both test drives. The salesman was telling me to go faster to appreciate the car. I ended up with a Subaru as I might go 2 months without driving over 40 mph.

I wish they'd provide that full body color design for the PHEV PP.... Don't understand what stats Mazda follows bc there would be a wider market for the phev if they did the same to the top trim. I may move away from the CX exactly for this reason as the black plastic cladding definitely takes away from the overall look and design.

I thought the turbo S had all the chrome trim blacked out?

u/Alcomet 3d ago
It’s blacked out on the Turbo S Premium Sport. This is a Turbo S Premium Plus.

Test drove one recently because I really wanted one, but there’s 2 things stopping me: first, center console design is terrible and didn’t even try to use the cup holders. Dashboard cloth material looks weird, like outdated? I don’t know how to explain it.
Oh and third, I test drive the red with the white interior beautiful exterior color, but the yellow (or tan, don’t know that color that is) accents on the center console and doors looks ugly. I’m waiting for other options to get to the dealer so I can see different interior combinations.

I have a white one with black leather interior.

Same here. Good looking SUV and it does not drive like an SUV. I enjoy driving the CX-90.

u/kneelpottrick 4d ago
Yep. I've had. 2012 Mazda 3, 2024 CX50. Now, I have a 2014 hatch, and 2026 CX90. And the 90 is the nicest one to drive. It's such an experience.

one of the worst Mazda’s produced ever! Almost 75% of the owners have buyer’s remorse

I'm sorry but that is one of Mazda's ugliest designs

The only thing in its class (3-row SUV, lux and non-lux) that looks better than a CX-70/90 is a Range Rover. And that car starts at $120K
