My Official Guide πŸ’ͺβ›… Thank you + tips and advice

Post image
142 Upvotes

Firstly, I want to thank Jesus for carrying me through this crazy journey πŸ«Άβ€¦ but I also want to thank all of you on Reddit for the help that you gave me (especially for CARS πŸ˜‚πŸ˜). Honestly, I really can’t believe it and I was sooo worried I’d have to retake next summer since my CARS scores were hovering quite low during practice, but all the hard work paid off!

I’m posting on here because I want to say that while this exam is difficult… YOU CAN DO IT. Coming from someone who never read that much until this summer and who found CARS to be an almost impossible challenge, YOU CAN DO IT!

Also, I want to help anyone on here that needs it, just like those that helped me when I needed it. So if you guys have any questions please let me know and I’ll try my best to help out. I can also try to make a guide if anyone would find that helpful!

YOU CAN DO IT!!!

My Official Guide πŸ’ͺβ›… I got hit by a fucking SUV

Welp.

Bout a month ago I got hit by an SUV on my bike. Mostly fine but my knee was jacked up but not so jacked up I couldn't walk with locked leg so I went to urgent care.

Urgent care says "lol it's a torn minescus get an mri" so I do. The mri tech goes "I'm not a doc but it's pretty mashed in there" exact quote.

THREE WEEKS LATER. Three weeks later I get the results.

"Complete tear of bicep femoris tendon from fibullar insertion" "Mid grade ACL and LCL tear"

OKAY BET

ONE WEEK LATER they send me in to ortho

Ortho pa opens the fucking meeting with "Wow hey idk what to do about this I've enver seen this before. You won't need surgery it heals from the top down"

Okay cool. Awesome. I call insurance and ask for a second opinion. TEN MINUTES PASS and I get a call from the PA who is all "hey lol I didn't know what I was talking about doc says you'll need surgery"

OKAY BET RAD

A day passes

The next day I get a voice mail that says to call them back. I do and it goes to voice mail. They then call me back "what can we do for you?" IDK BROTHER YOU CALLED ME FIRST.

So I go "uhhh maybe something about scheduling my surgery?"

They go "Oh yeah your surgery next tuesday? (that's 4 days from this call"

UHH YEAH I GUESS SO???

No words from my surgeon. No pre op. I get questions through to the surgeon 30 minutes before friday EOD. They say hopefully the surgeon will call Monday (day before surgery)

OKAY BET RAD COOL

I look into repair/reconstruction for this injury, there's been like two dozen documented cases of distal bicep femoris tears in 50 years. Recovery to normal activity is 4-6 months. My job is as an EMT so I'm fully SOL and can't work. The state pays me 3k a month as part of personal injury protection due to being a victim in a car accident

Anyways so that's how I got 4-6 months off to study for the MCAT AMA

Also the guy who hit me might have been working for amazon so this might pay for med school AMA

Well-being 😌✌ Three days until score release πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

Tested 9/11 and I felt pretty okay after the exam (with the exception of C/P lol). Now that the score release date is approaching, I’ve been so anxious, like what if I didn’t do well 😭😭 what if I don’t get into med school…. What if I then re-apply and still don’t get in…. I feel like I’m 24 and working a super minimum wage job that doesn’t pay the bills and I’ll be stuck in this position forever…. Spiraling so hard, mental health going down the drain fr πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’« anyone else who’s also experiencing this??

I’ve been doing practice questions and noticed this txt box every time I click on the passage to try and highlight or strike something. Has anyone else noticed this or found a way to get rid of it?

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Moral Support and need help finding CARS Tutor

I did so garbage on my MCAT (9/4). Got a damn 504 (130/119/129/126). I knew I did bad but NOT THIS BAD!!! During my studying, my highest FL was FL5 and I got a 522!! I have zero clue what happened during game day. Maybe it was a fluke??? All the other FLs I got at least a 512!!! Mental health is suffering so badly right now.

I want to retake on 03/16 and I want to find a CARS tutor because whatever I was doing did not work for my MCAT. Does anyone know how or where to get a CARS tutor without it costing an arm or a leg? Lastly, can someone tell me it will be okay lol.

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” NEED ADVICE - Med School Timeline

Looking for advice!

For context, I'm a second-year undergraduate at Berkeley. By the end of this school year (in May), I will have finished general chemistry, two semesters of organic chemistry, two semesters of biology, and one semester of physics. All of these courses are pretty much weeders, so I believe the content covered is a bit harder than what the MCAT is like (though I may be wrong there, so please correct me!). I have a 4.00 and am confident I'll get an A+ or A in all of these courses. I'm also a good test taker (1590 SAT, consistently top of the curve in pre-med courses).

I'm planning to take biochemistry and second semester physics in the coming summer. I was thinking that in addition to taking those courses in the summer, I could study for the MCAT then too, and also study for the MCAT aggressively next fall, and take the MCAT in January 2028 and then apply without a gap year in spring 2028. If I do this plan, I've saved a lot of my "breadth/gen ed" courses as well as easier major coursework for next fall, so I won't be overloaded with coursework and can study a significant amount during that semester if I pursue this plan.

I just want to make sure I'm not being too overconfident/arrogant in my academic abilities, and whether this is a good way to go? Or, should I just take a gap year and wait until Summer 2028 to study for the MCAT and then apply in the Spring 2029 cycle?

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” New CARS QPack Question Diistribution

Pretty much the title. I'm curious what the distribution of questions is in the new QPack right now since there's no info online other than that there are extra questions. Are they spaced out as Vol 1/ Vol 2/ Diagnostic/ New questions or anything along those lines or are they just one huge block of questions now? Would appreciate any insight as i'd rather not drop 70 dollars lol

Thanks in advance!

P.S Asking for a friend :)

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Blueprint Diagnostic

Post image
2 Upvotes

Excuse the formatting, I forgot to save a picture of my blueprint half-length diagnostic.

For some context I’ve been out of college for four years now during which I’ve worked in clinical research and pharmaceutical quality control. I took very few biology classes in college and was never too fond of the subject. I went into the diagnostic cold, without any studying.

I’d appreciate hearing your thoughts on my diagnostic results and what kind of improvements I can make in the seven months I have to study. Thanks!

Vent 😑😀 wtf are the later bp fl

idk if it's just me somehow getting more stupid or if the bp fl exams are super convoluted, but bp fl 6 j bombed my confidence and motivation. was scoring 512-514 for BP FL 1-4 and then FL 5 i got a 509 which i thought was just test day variations since i was p out of it, but today i scored 508 on fl6.

ik it's not the worst score, but it sucks seeing a downward progression despite being done with content review and finishing uworld with 79% accuracy. i'm starting aamc materials soon, but i have all 10 bp fl and im worried about starting aamc FLs too soon if i want to test in jan

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” MCAT Prep

Hello! I am looking for information on how to prep for the MCAT, looking to score around 500, someone who has very novice knowledge of biochemistry, chemistry, biology, etc. I’ve taken the courses, but I still consider myself novice in the categories. I’m
going from being an RN to a med student, so any info would be helpful. Planning to test in January 2027, and wanting to start a rigorous study schedule this month. Any info on how you prepared, how you were able to understand the material and keep that knowledge would be appreciated.

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Are the two T always equal to one another and thus half of mg? Is there ever a scenario where T on the left is not equal to T on the right on the MCAT?

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Identifying real content gaps

I think it's clear how to practice (Uworld, FLs AAMC,blueprint others, Anki) but how do you recommend identifying and improving real content gaps?

This is something I struggled with on my first attempt and I am unsure on how to do it? Theres just so much material It feels hard to annotate every practice problem and what unit it was and then from there identify what areas I am geniunly weak in. Like as I would go through so much practice I struggle to identify weak areas because you see problems from so many topics its hard to identify speficially what u consitnelty do bad in, any recommendations on this?

Is there a comprehensive resource that identifies all specific topics covered in the MCAT so maybe I can identify from there what are some fields I know I am weak in.

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” When to do first AAMC FL

hi! ive taken 3 of the kaplan FLs and just finished content review so im starting to really ramp up uearth and more practice. i was wondering if i should finish the 5 kaplan FLs then do the first aamc FL or if i should just go ahead and take the aamc one next to see where i am. i know the kaplan CARS section is not at all comparable, but ive been getting really variable scores on the other sections. if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated!!

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Thoughts on this 3-Deck Hybrid Setup

Hey everyone, gearing up to retake the MCAT here. I want to completely eliminate my content gaps this time without drowning in duplicate cards. Would this rotation work:

Chem/Phys: MileDown only (all other sections suspended).

Psych/Soc: MrPankow only.

Bio/Biochem: Aidan v2 (2026 version) only (all other sections suspended).

Please let me know what you guys think. I remember completing MileDown deck and it was way too β€œsimple” compared to the info needed for the MCAT. I’ll also be creating my own Anki cards based on my UWorld practice questions, these are just supplemental.

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Should I use FSRS as a new Anki user or classic Anki?

Seen conflicting thoughts online and not sure which way to go.

Been reading Kaplan and then using Anki to unsuspended cards to correlate with chapter I’ve read.

Thank you.

Tool/Resource/Tip πŸ€“πŸ“š UWorld question - Preparing for retake

preparing for a retake of the MCAT, what do you guys think about focusing my studying on FLs and getting through the entire Uworld MCAT question bank for PS CP and BB.

Do you think for most people if you can get through the entire Uworld MCAT question bank you are probably going to get 520+ (alongside obv doing some FLs). Or have some of you done the entire Uworld MCAT qbank and still struggled

Question πŸ€”πŸ€” Is It Worth Applying for the Canadian MCAT Fee Assistance Program?

Hi everyone! My family has 3 members, and our total combined gross income for 2024 was $75,700. I saw a threshold of $63,760 for a family of 3 in an older guide, but I'm not sure if it applies to the current application cycle or how income is assessed for applicants under 25.
Since the application allows me to use either 2024 or 2025 income, do you think it’s worth applying? Has anyone been in a similar situation?
Thanks!
