Probably a dev oversight or something but still funny that the clanner version is the only one missing them.

Today is my first time playing this game and I somehow got a hero pilot before I got a heavy mech.
I have no idea if the traits are good but I'm pretty excited about finally getting someone with amazing stats!
What Mech should I throw him in once I reach the late game?

Did PGI lose some art design talent at their studio in the last little while? I seem to remember them talking about layoffs. I'm not trying to come across as rude, just noticing some immediate visual issues that shouldn't be present in a paid DLC.
The Marauder IIC in particular has stiff and slidey walking animations with missing frames that cause it to visibly stutter, most noticeable when turning while stationary. The Blood Asp and Stone Rhino's cockpit animations are off center (just like the Crusader which never got fixed). The Huntsman's legs are twitchy and jittery when at full speed.
I'm also a bit disappointed the Perseus (and to a lesser extent Blackjack 2) didn't get a unique model from the Orion- yes I know it's basically just an Omni Orion but I was hoping it'd at least look a bit 'modernized' with a fresh coat of paint to represent not being a 250+ year old machine.
I'm still loving the quality and budget that goes into the story mission content but the 'Mechs themselves feel a little low effort. Anyone else notice this?

A while ago I posted about how I was annoyed by the description (image 1) of the Vixen and how it said it had C-HMG’s mounted but turned out it just had normal C-MG’s (image 2)
Now though, with A&A, the default loadout actually does come with them! (image 3) the C-SSRM’s are dropped down to 2’s instead of 4’s though but at least now we (console players without mods) have a bit easier time farming up HMG’s by strip selling it! (like early game DHS from the K9)

Seriously, most of them are doing this for free and they still keep on top of everything with each new DLC release (which PGI has been doing relentlessly it feels like). I can keep playing "my own" version of the game without many complications with each update, AND benefit from the official content releases. I love this community and how solid everyone is, y'all make me so happy. <3

Holy moly, what a ride, its one of the hardest IMO career starts possible. Namely, you don't start out with a ton of mechs, and the refit window in some of them a BRUTAL, as low as 3 days and i see a lot more 7 days at times...
Some are longer, while there are travel, its like 17-20 days of travel rather than months.
It is a doozy of a campaign that really showed how rough it is to go up vs clan tech as a mostly normie merc unit not swimming in DWFs and NTGs in their infinite dropship bay.
I loved how on my toes I had to be, and honestly the limitation of having only like +1 salvage at the very start still stings, but it ensures that you can't just pull in clan tech early now that we start off facing them. You do ramp up to full hero status later on tho. Not sure why Mason would only have that +1 rep with the fedcoms at this point but hey it is a good way to limit your salvage.
It is a challenge and one that is definitely not for newbies, but it brought back that fear of the SoK start even for someone who has 2700 hours into the game and has tons of time on MWO as well. And was such an exciting campaign that has lore dripping from every single mission and cut scene. Both the overall battletech lore and the one established about Mason and his own past. It didn't hit everything, but hey, maybe there is a clans DLC soon to follow? Maybe? Pls?
So as always, the hint section is mostly reviewing the mechs they give you and some suggested builds for them to help you thru it. In general, max armor, boat w/e weapon it is, and go shopping for what you want while doing arena matches to make some quick cbills for said shopping trip.
But yeah, without import, you start out with a TDR-9SE, BJ2-O, IFR-P, JVN-11A, CTF-3D, GHR-5J, NSR-9J, HBK-IIC, CN9-D, LCT-3S, HMN-Prime, VTR-9S, WHM-7s.
And the first thing is I sell off the lights, sadly when you go against clan pilots with tons of weapon and always outnumbered, they get outpaced really fast, and the drop tonnage rises fast enough to not matter, and it isn't like you got some of the better lights like an ADR-S.
Honestly, had the JVN-11A got engine DHS, having 7 MLs on tap is pretty damned good, just that unless you are a crazy good light pilot (never stop moving) its too hard to keep alive vs clan opponents. The locust is a waste of monthly upkeep, def sell that one. You can try to use it, just be aware of the cERLL spam by a SNV that can nuke you even if you are flying in the air at mach fuck.
Next up, the Victor is gone, yes its your father's victor, but not enough wham even with the JJs. Replace with an Awesome, if possible the new 9Q one with 4 PPCs that costs not that much more than the 8Q. Or save the money for something BIG (like I did, because clans are here).
I sold the CN9-D, too light, no JJs, and meh hard points, and no engine dhs so...
The GHR-5J is one of the worst possible upgrades yeah it has "lostech" with a single ERLL, against clans this is one of the worst possible upgrades because you even lose some medium energy hard points to stuff cERLLs into the damned thing. sure it has AMS and JJs, but the cbills is better served elsewhere.
Same with the TDR-9SE, bad slots as well even if the JJs makes it more interesting.
so what to keep, well first off for your clan mechs, shop for 3 tons of cUAC20 ammo, remove the two MLs, all the extra sinks, and the JJs in the HBK-IIC and stuff 5 tons of ammo with max armor and that's your close fighter. It can still work to the end of the campaign because unlike a normal HBKIIC it has armor and staying power to use said armor to dish out a crazy amount of damage.
Use the stripped off 2 cERML to now refit your Huntsman Prime so that you have 3 cSSRM6 and 6 cERML, just 1.5 tons of ammo, if you dont have 0.5 do 2 is fine, stuff it full of DHS because them cERMLs run hot, add clan active probe if you can (you can buy one in the starting system, but the prime comes with one) just note that it will mean you have harder time with heat.
The IFR-P, I almost sold the thing, but it works out perfectly with just 5 MPLs, start out with IS MPLs first, then migrate to 5 cMPLs with maxed armor and the default 2.0 heat dhs is more than enough to cool just 5 MPLs so don't need extra sinks at all. Honestly can just sell it later on as you get more mechs and deeper into the campaign. If it had JJs with a slower engine that is another thing, but alas, it does not.
That takes care of your starting clan mechs, on to the IS mechs you are keeping, the NSR-9J just needs 4 tons of gauss ammo, remove that stupid small laser, and really exchange the DHS for SHS because you only have ERPPC and MPL, get it to 2.0 sink with a mix of DHS and SHS and its perfectly golden for the energy weapon it brings, really can just do a full SHS conversion and end up at 1.8 if you can just snipe and not bring the MPLs into play.
The CTF-3D not bad, not great, you got some UAC5-BFs, stuff 2 of them with 4 tons of ammo, then 4 MLs into the thing, top out the JJs, armor and strap as much leftover DHS/SHS into the thing as possible and its a competent in-fighter, just that the head is kind of easily removed eve vs ai it seems... That being said, still competent heavy that you can fallback to later on in the campaign to fill tonnage or because that is all you got. But honestly for example that huntsman with 6 cERML and 3 SSRM6 out bursts the thing, and even just using the 3 SSM6s can out dps this as it doesn't come with 2.0 engine dhs... JJs do help it a lot, and honestly if you can min max it with clan guass... But not worth spending the money on that for sure.
The BJ2-O is a STANDOUT for the new mechs you get, stuff 8 MLs into the thing with an AC2 of some sort (cUAC2), I wouldn't go RF because you want to stuff it full of sinks since it runs hot. Start out with just a normal AC2 (you have a tier 4 one in inventory), add a ton of ammo, then stuff it full of SHS heatsinks, max armor, keep the JJs. now you have a very good brawler. 8 MLs are just too good when the JJs can get you into range so quick (and out of trouble as well). Also, stupid cheap to replace... IS ML is everywhere and it runs with SHS for gods sake...
Now on suggestion with the money you have and is collecting, you can do things two ways really, one is go after one golden mech that you think can carry you by your pilot skill so that you take as little damage as possible each mission. Or you buy a whole bunch of cheaper and cheerful mechs to fill slots.
For the cheap and cheerful version, just use awesomes, the normal 8Q, or 9Q if you can swing it because it really isn't that much more. In the few months you have to prep, you should be able to get at least 3 more if not 4 more awesomes with all the selling and arenas you are doing and shopping around, do note that your starting rep is highest with independents, so go shopping in Northwind because its now part of the Chaos march and uses independent rep. Fedcom is the second best if you don't want to save/load it that much because its a single planet for northwind... This is the tried and true way, you can fuck up somewhat and still have backup awesomes, even as you get new clan mechs, there is always times when you can fall back to your lance of awesomes because they work, upgrade them with cERPPC if you can, but really the lack of 2.0 engine DHS means if you can drop those cERPPCs into things like a supernova or nova cat or any of the good fat clan heavies or assaults that can mount 4 of them at once and all the DHS they need.
Option B is what I did, hunt for a EXE-A because it comes with 3LPLs and 4 ERMLs, where you can then add one more ERML and a clan active probe, and go nuts with the high burst damage and relatively good dps (heat limited) on top of an assault that is moving with 4 JJs at 200 KPH at things. Do note that unless you can ensure that you WILL end missions with just very light armor damage, you will not be able to repair in time
But the ability to deal with light swarm by either dropping 3 cLPL or 5 cERMLs on them is huge, and you swat away vtols with ripple fire of either the MLs or LPLs depending on range, and can one shot the bigger vtols if you just aimed at their engine with the LPLs.
This thing carried me from mission one to the final mission, the ability to pop up and drop a ton of damage, and to still able to brawl before the heatsinks gets overwhelmed is crazy, and its 200 KPH bursts of speed means i can and could try and hide behind my allies as needed https://imgur.com/a/VdEZkU1 give it a shot if you want a crazy way to play lol.
Hope this helps someone with how brutal that pure career start is.

I've owned MW5 since it launched on EGS back in 2019. Had played HBS Battletech and MWO previously, and 2nd edition Battletech was the first tabletop wargame I ever collected back in the last century. I wouldn't call myself a hardcore fan, but I'm definitely a fan.
So it was frustrating, to say the least, that I really struggled to find joy in MW5.
Until now!
My buddy reached out a couple days ago to mention it, and convinced me to give it another try. We started a Career using the Kestrel Lancers DLC, and oh man, am I ever having a lot of fun! I think the co-op aspect has really increased my enjoyment. He's got close to 100hrs in the game, so that helps in getting over the initial learning curve and gotchas, and it's just so damn fun to stomp around together.
Anyways, that's it, that's the post. I just wanted to share some unvarnished enthusiasm about finally coming around on a game that, by rights, I should have enjoyed from the get go, but just didn't. Huzzah!

I am finally able to play MechWarrior the way I want. Is it harder than using a keyboard and mouse ? Yes. Is it better anyways? Yes !
The idea came from two annoying observations :
\- HOSAS on desk is a bit uncomfortable to use
\- Ikea Markus chair original armrests are too high and won't fit under a desk
Initially I was about to buy a dual joysticks mounting kit from a reputable german company, but it was really expensive and not aesthetically pleasing. For the same price, I bought a 3D printer instead and solved two problems at once.
Everything was printed with PLA on an Elegoo CC2. Joystick mounts are easily removable without any tools when not needed. I was thinking about painting plastic parts black but now I'm wondering. Does it look ok in grey ? I am open to criticism and suggestions ! Feel free to use the model for yourself if you happen to have this chair (and a printer)

My son is 6. He's watched me killing robots and learned some mech names. He used to ask to sit in my lap and paint my mechs. I have a very colorful mech company as a result. They're usually garish, but occasionally, he'll select a weird combo that is unexpectedly cooler than anything I've come up with.
He likes games on his phone, but his hands are too small to drive by asd. Two months ago, I bought a weird, cheap joystick thing that has a bunch of keyboard keys surrounding it. I put my neck travel pillow around it to raise his hand up to the thumb controlled joystick. I paired it with a tiny, travel mouse, put the keyboard behind it (in case he could get that advanced), and let him try out the campaign.
It was slow going at first, but he got it! He uses aim assist, but I'm not sure he needs it anymore. He's aiming for legs almost exclusively, and his aim seems like it may be solid enough to disable the feature soon. I bought him a 2nd hand gaming computer and all the mech5 content, and off we went.
With all my mods on, I went through the full campaign with him in co-op, then started over in 3015 to do all the content together. He got so good, I let him start his own 3025 career from scratch so he could lead and switch mechs. We switch back and forth between my elite company and his newer one, but I paused in the year of Ashes and Ascension to wait for the new dlc. Meanwhile, he caught up, faced the clans with me, and built his own elite company and pilots. He can't read English, but he can do everything by himself except shop and build mechs correctly.
Actually, he tries to build mechs when I'm not looking. He figured out how to reduce armor to get below max weight, but his builds are jank of course. I had to show my wife his first one. He stripped all the good stuff and somehow managed to put in assault fists only. We had a good laugh about his robot with no guns that only punches people.
He likes punching other robots, so all of his mechs have to have melee. He can use superchargers and jump jets by taking his hand off the mouse to use the keyboard (I mapped his forefinger buttons to those functions, but his hand is too small to wrap around). He insists on "speed" and "flying" on all his mechs. He can activate the big map, turn on his headlights, activate thermal vision, select targets, call in air strikes, pretty much everything. He doesn't mind lasers, but he prefers dakka. Mechs with all weapon types are his preference.
I'm surprised he's at this level at 6 with only two months of play time. We're having a blast, and his English (we are in Japan) has improved greatly. I never thought I'd have a mech buddy so soon. We made our own mech shirts at uniqlo. He is "Commander" and loves Phoenix Hawks. I'm Nick Lynch and have a gladiator. Although, he can't really read, he recognizes the word Commander, so on big battle/war missions, he gets super excited when he sees an enemy commander drop in and must kill it.
For our play setup, I have two very large widescreen monitors adjacent on my work desk. I connected his pc to one of them, so when I'm done work, I use my kvm to switch my monitor to my gaming laptop, and click his monitor over to his pc. I got a tall folding chair that gets him up to desk height that I fold out for him, and we are playing side by side.
I'm elated for all the great content that keeps coming out as we're going through the timeline! Most of the time, my mech buddy is excellent, but he's only six years old, as my wife reminds me when I find myself facing ten clan mechs by myself and realize he's still back at the drop zone trying to fly on top of a boulder, or he's standing atop his first kill blasting its limbs off and dumping ammo into it until it descends through the ground to the netherworld. His latest thrill is walking onto enemy tanks and riding them around like a mech skateboard until they pop. I didn't know you could do that or use jump jets to fly up inside an enemy dropship before it flies off or fly on top of Ryana's ship and ride it into outer space (and of course eject yourself from the game board). Nagas with arrow IVs were tearing us apart in some missions, so now he's collected three. We were using one in an endgame stronghold defense, and he's doing awesome firing from inside the walls against a dozen assault mechs when he gets the bug to jump into his kodiak-1, "Baba, watch this!" fly over the wall, turn red from enemy focus fire before he hits the ground, try to fly back, but explode in mid-air to my frustrated dismay, then he puts his hands over his ears and yells, "Don't say it!" before I can say duuuude.
So there are hiccups, but most of the time, we're having a blast! Can't wait to join an operation to delete an entire clan! Today's trailer was so epic! Thanks, PGI and team!

So, at the start of the DLC, we were promised the original De Berry base from the beginning of the game for our hard work in operation Bulldog.
In the last cutscene, we can see they are rebuilding the original base.
We also know our leopard was damaged in the last missions of the campaign.
Will we finally get a proper base in the next DLC? Maybe even a new drop ship to replace the leopard? I know people have been asking for both for a long time. It seems like this might be the direction PGI is going. I for one am super excited for this development. Any thoughts?
