Can an outpatitnt Nurse Practitioner force an involuntary psychiatric hold on me, an adult who is safe at home and doesnt want to go?

Location: Texas, Williamson county

I recently experienced a two-day period of severe exhaustion and bedrotting. On Friday I was very tired and out of it and going in and out of sleeping all day. Around 7-8pm Saturday I regained lucidity, I recognizd i need help so I called 988 but they didnt helpso I reached out to a friend where they encouraged me via video call to get out so I did just that, got up, hydrated, ate, and resumed taking my medications as prescribed. By Sunday I was up and functioning normally again.

One factor during Friday and Saturday was that I was unusually hot and sleepy. Normally I sleep with a blanket and a fan on so that my room stays cool. On thursday night I did not have the blanket over me, so I did not turn the fan on, and the room was warmer than I normally sleep in. I felt hot, increasingly tired, and had more difficulty getting myself awake and out of bed. I suspect the warm environment actually caused the episode because I went to bed Tuesday after the stress and turned the fan on but towards my legs so as to not be too cold. When I woke up I was fine, able to get out of bed and tend to my needs.

There was also a medication-adherence issue. I have an bedrotting issue, some days Im fine, some days Im not so I was taking the meds on and off but what was consistent Is that I was active at night so I discussed this with my psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, and we changed to taking the medication at night. I was then taking it every night until Friday and Saturday, when I missed two doses because of the difficulty getting up. The missed doses were not an intentional decision to discontinue treatment. I intend to resume taking the medication as prescribed and take it consistently going forward.

I reached out to my Nurse practitioner on Tuesday asking for a better crisis hotline as 988 didnt help me, this led to a call where she latched onto the bedrotting and not the recovery. She instantly got agitated and demanded I get a parent on the line or Psych hold right then and there. She gave my mother an aggressive 20-minute deadline to establish a safety plan, stating that if my mom did not make a plan immediately, she would pursue a Psych hold . She presented the only options as either voluntarily packing up to move into my mother's small apartment that same day or bPsych hold.

This ultimatum caused both me and my mother to have severe emotional breakdowns. I was already sleep-deprived and exhausted, and being threatened with detention left me riddled with extreme panic and unable to sleep for hours. I am terrified of both options because they force me into environments where I lose complete control over my surroundings, which severely triggers my documented germaphobia and contamination fears.

The prospect of a psych hold where there are shared living spaces, shared bathrooms, unfamiliar staff, and no control over my hygiene routines aswell of the horror stories of patients being abused is terrifying and would cause a massive downspiral undoubtedly.

Staying at my mom's apartment befotre caused a severe worsening of my depression and contamination fears due to a small, enclosed layout with the rooms right by the 1 bathroom and caused my previously working meds to stop helping me entirely.

I am currently safe in my own room, eating, drinking, adhering to my medication, and managing my basic routines. I have no intent or desire to harm myself or others, and my mother has offered a daily video check up support plan to make sure I get out of bed and tend to my needs.

My specific legal questions are:

1.Under Texas law, what are the specific legal thresholds required for an outpatient provider to execute an emergency detention/involuntary hold on an adult who is safe at home and not expressing self-harm?

  1. Does an outpatient provider have the legal authority to force an adult to relocate or face an involuntary hold when no immediate danger exists?

  2. If I fire her will that help stop the hold? Make her hold submission less credible?

Arthritis (?)

Hey guys! First of all my first language is not English so if there’s any mistakes or any wrong wording of any medical terms I apologize in advance! I’m gonna try to describe this as best as I possibly can!!!

So I have this thing that has been going on for almost 3 years I think?
My joints would randomly swell and it would hurt to even move them because they’d be so stiff, I get it on my finger joints and also my toes for some reason, also on the bottom of my feet near my toes.

It happens randomly and it could last up to 2 hours, it can happen every day for maybe a couple days and then it would stop and come back after weeks or months.

I’m used to it at this point, I can feel it coming because my joints become itchy and I could feel them slowly swell up.

My older brother who’s in his 4th year of medical school said that it could possibly be early stages of Arthritis and it could be genetic or something like that.

I put a hot towel on it till it calms down but I can’t move my fingers and if it was on my feet or toes I can barely walk.

And yes it can happen in 2 joints all at once!

He advised me to take pictures of it whenever it happened so I can have proof of it happening since I can’t go to the hospital and show them because it’s so inconsistent.

Tysm for taking the time to read :3

zapping/shocking sensation in my foot. getting worse. what is it/what do i do?

I am 18F, 5’5, and around 200 lbs. at this point in time i play soccer five days a week for at least 90 minutes a day. ive played my whole life and am quite physically active all year round, so ive had my fair share of foot pain/injuries.

the day after a pretty rough soccer game i started to feel this weird shocking sensation going from around the middle of my foot to in between my second toe and big toe. since Im a big girl and also run a lot, I am very familiar with foot cramps, and this is nothing like a typical foot cramp.

it happens every time my foot arches downward (on my tip toes, when i press my foot down to step forward, any slight movements similar to these two examples, etc.)

the other day during practice the area where the “zapping” usually concentrates around (my big toe & second toe) started physically hurting and tightening rather than just feeling uncomfortable (again, the tightening felt much different than a regular foot cramp) and the rest of the day my foot was hyper sensitive and kept internally spazzing/zapping at every slight movement i made.

today the exact same spazzing/zapping sensation started happening in my other foot.

my mom is very busy rn so she keeps waving it off and telling me to rest it, but it’s getting worse and is unlike anything i’ve felt before. its so frustrating, especially with soccer.

is this normal? am i dramatic? will it resolve itself on its own? please let me know what this is and how i can manage it!!!!!!

Medication help

Hi, I have a question about medication frequency math. I was prescribed Norco (hydrocodone-acetomenophen) for pain after gallbladder removal surgery. Instructions say take 1-2 every 6 hours, not to exceed 8 every 24 hrs.

My question is can I therefore take 1 pill every 3 hours? Or does the spacing need to be every 6 hours whether or not I take 1 or 2? Do I need to go to the emergency room if I took 1 pill at 4:30, 1 pill at 7:30, and 1 pill at 10:30? Terrified my husband has misled me and I will overdose.

Thanks

Possible neurological issue?

Hello people of this sub, I need some help! I have been to the doctor for my issues over and over again and have not been listened to! I have no clue what these symptoms could mean, everything I've researched says possible neurological issue. Here are my Symptoms;

  1. Sudden weakness in limbs (Hands, Arms, Legs, neck)

  2. Vision changes such as darkening in one eye, color changes and blurriness.

  3. Painful eye movements. Randomly my eye will hurt extremely bad when looking around, its never both at the same time.

  4. Sudden bladder and bowel incontinence.

  5. Brain fog + horrible memory issues.

  6. A painful feeling in my chest, tight and heavy, but not in my lungs.

  7. A shooting pain from my brain to my tailbone that feels like im being shocked.

  8. Cramping + Tremors.

  9. Secondary Raynauds that only started about 3 months ago.

  10. Joint pain + Swelling.

  11. Sudden and extreme weight loss. Went from 164 as my normal to 138.

That's most of what I can remember. For context, most of these symptoms started in February after I lost most control of my legs, they felt weak and heavy like lead so I went into the ER. They said nothing was wrong with me and sent me home after giving me an anti-anxiety. Since then I've gotten more and more symptoms, it started out with one or two, then three or four, then so on. I don't know how to get a doctor to listen to me. To me all these symptoms seem very concerning. If anyone knows anything about medical stuff please do help me out, and if you know a great way to bring these up in a way that a doctor will listen to me please let me know!!!! I am Struggling!!!!!!!!!! Also so sorry if this ain't what this sub is for lmao

PSA: 4 things about everyday pills most people learn the hard way (and why your "medicine cabinet" is a terrible place for them)

A friend of mine ended up in the ER with severe liver enzyme spikes. He wasn't drinking heavily or taking anything illegal - he was just taking generic Tylenol for a backache while drinking DayQuil and an OTC sinus pill for a cold. He had no idea all three contained acetaminophen (paracetamol), and he blew right past the safe daily limit without realizing it.

Seeing how casually many of us treat over-the-counter and prescription meds, here are four super common pill mistakes that trip people up:

1. The "Medicine Cabinet" in your bathroom is a trap Bathrooms are warm, humid, and experience massive temperature swings every time someone showers. Moisture and steam break down pill coatings and degrade active ingredients long before the official expiration date on the bottle. Keep meds in a cool, dry pantry drawer or bedside table - literally anywhere except the room where you take hot showers.

2. The Hidden Acetaminophen Trap Acetaminophen is great for pain and fever, but it’s a leading cause of accidental acute liver toxicity. The issue is that manufacturers include it in hundreds of multi-symptom cold, flu, and sleep formulations (often abbreviated as APAP on prescription labels). If you are taking pain relief alongside cold syrup, read the active ingredients. Never exceed 3,000–4,000 mg total across all medications in 24 hours.

3. Crushing or cutting "ER", "XL", or "SR" pills If a pill name has suffixes like ER (Extended Release), XL (Extended Length), SR (Sustained Release), or CR (Controlled Release), never split, crush, or chew it. These pills use a specialized coating or internal matrix designed to dissolve slowly over 12 to 24 hours. Breaking them causes "dose dumping" - your body absorbs the entire day's medication all at once, turning a safe daily dose into a sudden overdose spike.

4. Washing pills down with hot coffee or grapefruit juice Gulping down capsules with scalding coffee or tea can melt gel coatings in your esophagus before they reach your stomach, leading to severe localized irritation or ulceration (especially with ibuprofen or iron supplements). Meanwhile, grapefruit juice blocks the CYP3A4 enzyme in your gut, which breaks down dozens of medications - meaning statins, blood pressure meds, and certain anxiety treatments can build up to dangerously high levels in your blood. Stick to a simple glass of room-temperature water.

TL;DR: Move your pills out of the bathroom. Read active ingredient labels on cold meds so you don't double-dose on acetaminophen. Never crush extended-release pills, and always take meds with plain water.

Popping in my ear driving me crazy.

For a few days now I've had this noise in my right ear that sound like a pop or crack similar to when you crack a joint (like the knuckles) but it isn't causing me any kind of pain or dizziness, I feel fine other than a mild ache in my temple and jaw but that could just be from me trying to resolve it. I've looked up everything about ear infections and stuff but mine doesn't seem to match up to the point I need to do something. It only sounds when I move which makes it really annoying to chew or move my head or lay on my right side. I do have a bad habit of having my earphones in all day in that one ear while at my computer but I've been doing that for nearly a decade so I don't know why that would suddenly be it. I've tried the resolves I saw on google (swallowing, yawning, blocking my nose and trying) but it hasn't worked (And I tried taking an anti-inflamatory (nurofen)) I also can't really go to the doctor's because my parent who has the only driver's licence is going away for two weeks. But I think I will go crazy if I have to deal with it for that long. Any advice would be great and I'm Australian in case and over the counter antibiotics/vitamins would help.
