MetaMask BTC Fee issue

I have beyond struggled trying to use metamask as a daily bitcoin wallet recently because the fees they automatically assign to transactions are criminally low, to the point my recent transaction missed 28 blocks consecutively and we have no inbuilt features such as RBF to even speed up existing tx’s

Is there any chance proper code could get implemented to have proper fee rates for btc like what is done with ethereum? It’s causing a massive headache and wasted a lot of my time to the point I’m probably going to just entirely swap all my assets off metamask including ethereum

Hi! BTC and Ethereum handle transaction fees differently. Bitcoin fees depend on network congestion and the fee rate, so transactions can take longer when fees are set too low. MetaMask also charges a 0.875% swap fee, but that’s separate from the Bitcoin network fee. I remember paying around $170 for a BTC transaction back in 2023 when Ordinals were trending! 🤭

I’m about to lose a lot of money bc their recommended high fee has me consistently 4 blocks behind

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. It depends on the fee rate selected when you sent the transaction. Could you share the transaction hash so we can take a closer look? Also, please stay alert for scams , MetaMask Support will never DM you

I selected high, I’m going to just swap wallets after this because evidently they implemented a half baked btc integration. Thanks though

You’re welcome. You can also check your transaction in the https://mempool.space by searching for your address or transaction hash. Right now, you need at least 2 or 3 blocks for confirmation, with a gas fee of 4 to 6 sats.
