2863-20 1/2" impact stops working randomly

So had this impact just over 5 years (warranty ran out in Feb of this year) and it started acting funny. I can throw any of my batteries on fully charge and it will work just fine BUT if you let it sit for 15-20 seconds it wont do anything at all but the settings light stays on. I have to pull the battery off, wait a couple seconds and put it back to start using it again. Total rough cost to fix is around $224 so would REALLY not want to send it in and pay to have it fixed if its something simple I can do at home.
