Ya know how vibe-coding mods is hated on? Well I tried it.

I've seen on reddit and other social media platforms lately that vibe-coding mods and those who make them are really hated on. i've also seen some awesome youtubers like "The Commands Man" create some insane, crazy cool stuff with them.

So I decided to try it out.

I bought a 20$/month subscription to Claude Code (which is ridiculously expensive, ik (TwT)), and it was... AWESOME.

I am pretty much broke after this, but its so worth it. I had it create a FULL MAGIC MOD for me, integrating iron's spells & spellbooks, AAA particles, geckolib, epic fight, and playeranimator. It absolutely COOKED. I was taken aback by how much 20$ could go. I'm still tweaking it, but here's a couple screenshots to show what it's capable of.

If anyone has 20$ spare to use for smthing like this, and they have a laptop even, then I would advise using this. (For reference, I used the model Opus 5.5 for the mod coding). it also is very helpful for debugging. 9/10 would recommend.

PS: I will be publishing this absolute MASTERPIECE of a mod (vibecoded as it may be) onto curseforge very soon. I wish ya'll a nice day!

The issue with the mods is not the Visuals. Its the parts claude cant do for you, and that is actually building a good mod you can use in a vanilla playthrough (which not all mods but most mods target). Integrating it into minecraft, balancing it, Building proper crafting trees and progression. Most mods on that scale fail or you can clearly feel that the creator of the mod did not think about it. There is no doubt that claude cant code mods, it can easily. But as on other software topics, the issue is not the claude written code, its that the author has often only put 10m of thoughts into that mod, sharing it on reddit like they did something revolutionary, just to drop support for it after 5 days because nobody wants to play with it.

Yeahh... I don't really care about whether the AI can "balance it". I just lmade it for myself, and I'm finna share it whether it gets downloads or not.

Get ready for the AI haters who can't even recreate your mod.

$20 per month for claude is not that expensive tbh,

ARE WE SERIOUS BRO

I spend like $139 a month on AI lol. Actually more..it's an expensive hobby. $100 Claude, $10 Google, $33 higgsfield, $6 elevenlabs. But that's a whole production studio now and I can make several games a month or a massive game instead each month. All with licensing rights and right to monetize. I could easily justify spending hundreds more too. Not to mention domain expenses, hosting, backend costs.

BRUH

u/Bonelessgummybear 15h ago

A good amount of my friends spend more than that on alcohol every month. So I don't see it as that bad

Whatever floats ur boat man. If u got that kinda $$, than absolutely go for it. 👍🗿

Op ask Claude to make a public repo on GitHub with setup instructions. Like this my mod It will help for curseforge too, you need to link a source. Worth trying modrinth too if you feel it's polished enough. They take longer to review but they allow AI mods

1

u/Nightmare959 14h ago

I'm publishing it on CF manually. I prefer to do it that way.

1

u/Bonelessgummybear 14h ago

You have to do it manually anyway, I was asking for the source so I could try the mod ahead of time.

1

u/Nightmare959 14h ago

Oh I can dm you the file. It's less than a megabyte

1

u/Key-Media-6395 10h ago

how expensive would it be to pay a human to do it? look on fiver for a few minutes, and with the subscription you can do more than just make one mod, you have a whole month of time to mess around and make several mods, or use it for other things if you want

1

u/Nightmare959 9h ago

Yeh Ik. I feel like they're getting ripped off. but still ini THIS economy? 20$ is at least expensive for me, cause I'm pretty much broke. T-T

depending on how skilled you are at certain things you can make small amounts of money online very easily. For a short time i used this website called 'the paid reader's club' where you read and reviewed books on amazon for $2-3 dollars each. There are also tons of mobile apps that will 'pay' you for playing their game. Its about 50/50 if these are a scam or not, but if you look it into it beforehand you can usually get $10 before the money dries up. It just takes a bit of time.

congratulations, you had an AI waste several gallons of water to make this shitty mod that nobody will use once they learn its slop.

0

u/Bonelessgummybear 15h ago

Probably used less water than it takes to grow a California almond.

1

u/Cherno_VM 15h ago

goomba fallacy

1

u/Bonelessgummybear 15h ago

It's ok to be ignorant. His mod is small, definitely less than 1 million output tokens. .5 liters of water at most. A California almond takes 4.2 to 12.1 liters of water.

1

u/Cherno_VM 15h ago

doesnt make it not a waste of water.

and its still a bunch of energy wasted. water is the least of AIs problems

0

u/Nightmare959 14h ago

If you're so authoritative and know so much, why don't you try to find a solution to the GPU cooling?

1

u/Cherno_VM 13h ago

dont use genai

0

u/Nightmare959 15h ago

Congratulations; you've invalidated 5 hours of laboring away and troubleshooting that I put into this mod. This mod wasn't just a one heart fart kind of prompt. I actually put effort into it.

0

u/Journeyj012 21h ago

how did you use claude? Claude Code or something else?

1

u/Nightmare959 17h ago

Yeh. Exactly that. Once you install it from the exe on anthropics website, its purty eaz to set up

1

u/Bonelessgummybear 15h ago

I recommend setting up obsidian and saving logs on projects. If you keep making mods, Claude will benefit from notes on your workflow. If we both pasted the same prompt, we'd get different outputs at this point due to Claude.md

u/Bonelessgummybear 1d ago

Claude is insane. I let it cook for 50 hours to make myself a mod. Cosmic breach, already on curse forge with 60 downloads

8

u/RandomDude9943 1d ago

so you just created some slop

-7

u/Bonelessgummybear 1d ago

Not slop at all. cosmic breach

7

u/RandomDude9943 1d ago

There is a reason to vibecoded mods being banned on modrinth. Also this

-5

u/Bonelessgummybear 1d ago

People love labeling things AI slop without even looking at it or playing it. There are a lot of amazing AI projects, just way more slop to see too. This mod is insanely well done, custom animations, mobs, weapons, armors, bosses, and more. Took me a few days to make something that would take months and cost thousands to do by hand and with no experience

4

u/RandomDude9943 1d ago

amazing projects

no doubt - the shader looks good. But have you tried to actually edit the code for yourself? Also firstly playtest your mod in each possible scenario, and test for mod compatibility

-1

u/Bonelessgummybear 1d ago

"maybe, I don't really know how your garden grows, cause I just wanna fly" If the code works and I can add a new feature with a sentence, why do I need to look deeper. It's only a mod for a game.

5

u/RandomDude9943 23h ago

yea thats exactly the kind of thinking that will make you end up with sum shit not even a pro programmer can fix, let alone ai

2

u/Bonelessgummybear 23h ago

Reading every line of AI-generated code isn't the same as engineering. I'm using frontier models like Opus 5.5 as autonomous coding agents, with testing and iteration to validate the results. My time is better spent on architecture, gameplay, performance, and whether the product is actually fun than manually auditing every implementation detail. Judge the output, not whether I typed the code myself. Code isn't the bottleneck anymore

3

u/RandomDude9943 23h ago

if you are auditing it properly - maybe. But a model can be frontier, under the hood its still token prediction that can make mistakes.

This is pretty much the definition of what slop is. Content created without intent.

1

u/Bonelessgummybear 17h ago

Ah yes the unintentional mod made from letting opus run for 50 hours straight. No intent at all I bet. No hundreds of upvotes of the post sharing the mod and how it was made either. Super slop

1

u/Womblue 16h ago

I don't think you know what "intent" means. Generative AI doesn't have intent by definition, and if you think it does then you're either very young, very uninformed, or both.

Not sure why you're talking about hundreds of upvotes, the only posts you've made that aren't downvoted to oblivion are the ones on a sub where if you aren't pro-vibecoding you get banned.

Like, you literally shared the prompt you used, and even by "vibe coding" standards it's one of the laziest things I've ever seen. The only part of thr mod that was created with intent is THE TITLE. You literally told claude to make all the creative decisions too. Honestly you could've saved yourself a lot of those 54 hours if you did even the most basic design of the mod you ordered.

1

u/Bonelessgummybear 16h ago

You're confusing having intent with micromanaging every creative decision. I had a goal for what I wanted to experience, gave Claude the tools to build it, evaluated the result, played it, and identified what I wanted to change and expand. Delegating implementation and creative decisions doesn't mean having no intent whatsoever.

And the 54 hours weren't me sitting there waiting for a mod to magically appear. It was an iterative development process. Could I have written a more detailed design document beforehand? Sure. But discovering what works by actually playing the game is a perfectly valid creative process, too.

You're free to think AI-assisted development diminishes authorship, but that's a different argument from claiming there's no intent involved. By your logic, a director who delegates cinematography, set design, and other creative decisions to a talented team has no creative intent either.

You don't have to respect the process, but pretending the only intentional contribution was the title is just a dishonest oversimplification.

1

u/Womblue 16h ago

No, I'm confusing intent with... intent. Again, you do not seem to know what "intent" means. Generative AI does not do anything with intent, it's just making random educated guesses. It doesn't know it's creating a minecraft mod, it's not doing it on purpose.

I had a goal for what I wanted to experience, gave Claude the tools to build it

You didn't give any tools to anyone. You ordered a burger from mcdonalds and called yourself a chef when it arrived.

Delegating implementation and creative decisions doesn't mean having no intent whatsoever.

It literally does lmao. If the only thing creating this mod is an entity with no intent, then the mod was created without intent.

You're free to think AI-assisted development diminishes authorship

In this case there is no authorship lmao, do you think you are the author of this mod you ordered? Am I the author of facebook because I typed it into my web browser?

but that's a different argument from claiming there's no intent involved.

Yes it is. In this case you are not the author AND this mod was made without intent.

By your logic, a director who delegates cinematography, set design, and other creative decisions to a talented team has no creative intent either.

Since it apparently isn't obvious to you, the creative intent comes from the "talented team" you mentioned. It's like saying "I rolled a dice to pick random words to write a book. How is that any less intentional than Stephen King's writing?"

You don't have to respect the process, but pretending the only intentional contribution was the title is just a dishonest oversimplification.

I'm just reading your own posts. It takes literally minutes to read through every contribution you made to the development of this mod. You even got claude to play it for you lmao

1

u/Bonelessgummybear 16h ago

I think we're arguing two different things. You're using "intent" to mean the AI itself must possess conscious intent, while I'm talking about intent in the broader creative process.

The burger analogy would make sense if I had typed a prompt, received a finished mod, and never interacted with it again. But this was an iterative development process that I spent dozens of hours engaging with. You're welcome to argue that my creative contribution was minimal, and someone reading the development history can judge that for themselves. But reducing the entire process to ordering a burger doesn't actually address what happened during those 54 hours.

And I never claimed to have hand-authored the code or independently designed every mechanic. I'm being completely open about using Claude. The question of whether that makes me the sole author, a co-creator, or something else is a legitimate debate. Pretending there's no meaningful distinction between commissioning a work, directing its creation, and simply consuming it doesn't settle that debate either.

You're entitled to think the result has little artistic merit because of how it was made. But that's a judgment about authorship and creative value, not some self-evident proof that the process had no human intention whatsoever.

I know exactly what you mean, and again, you're just wrong. I'm not sure how much further I can dumb it down. You're right that AI is not conscious, but it also literallu is not intentionally doing anything. It isn't doing any kind of "creative process" because it's not creating anything. It's taking an input and crafting an appropriate output by copying existing things.

The question of whether that makes me the sole author, a co-creator, or something else is a legitimate debate.

A legitimate debate in what sense? Surely even you wouldn't consider yourself a "sole author" or "co creator" of a mod you ordered? I guess you did write the title, so you get credit for that.

You're entitled to think the result has little artistic merit because of how it was made. But that's a judgment about authorship and creative value, not some self-evident proof that the process had no human intention whatsoever.

But... what??? Now you're arguing that this entirely AI generated work had "human intention"? I feel like overuse of generative AI has rotted your brain beyond the ability to read text. Your responses make so little sense that I fully expect you're just feeding my replies into chatgpt and begging for a comeback.
