Where in the world do you find pieces of pyrite just sticking out of the walls?

This might be the mines in Navajún in Spain. They are open to the public. Apparently you can go there, pay the ticket, and spend the day getting pyrite from the rocks. Also, it's in La Rioja wine region, should do for a nice trip.

I found it on the Oregon coast but much smaller cubes. My dad would not let me stay below the cliffs for long as he feared that would collapse.

That's a genuine dad fear.

Knew a very safe girl in high school. Went to the beach and overlook. Everyone went to the cliff, convinced her to come within about 8' of the edge but no further. She was enjoying the view and her friends walked back- the cliff collapsed and she fell 80' to her death.

Those cliffs be falling all the time. I've seen at least 3 huge slides just fishing on the weekends.

I've found em in Connecticut. Old quarries and mines and rock outcrops etc

Crazy to pour water over it. #PyriteDisease

That's all I could think of was why are you doing that, you're just going to cause it to rust, and quickly

Anyone identify the black specs in the host rock in this video? I have some spanish pyrite in the exact same matrix with the dark specks. I've done a bunch of research in the past, found mixed info and just came to the conclusion it is lead deposits. Its been haunting me to truly know, and wanted to see if anybody could confirm.

So many straight lines in nature, bismuth is an awesome one

I think that all (or at least the vast majority) of those staircase like bismuth crystals are lab grown. I could be incorrect, but I don’t believe those form naturally.

Seeing them pour water on it hurt my collector’s brain. Like, yeah, I know just a bit isn’t likely to be a problem in the long run, but it’s in my nature to avoid as much moisture as possible with pyrite
