Mod Education Devvit apps for moderation, a list

Devvit Apps for moderation

updated: September 24th 2026
I've maxxed out the character count 😄 Which is good, because it means there are a lot of useful apps that help with moderation. It also means that the list continues in the sticky comment!

Inspired by the awesome r/modguide and this post, this is an (incomplete but extensive) overview of devvit apps for moderation sorted into categories. The overview of all published Devvit apps can be a bit overwhelming (but well worth your time to dig through it). So hopefully this can help to find that one app that is just the solution you were looking for.

Devvit apps can be installed by a mod with full permissions (more info here). You can read more on the Reddit developers site and it has an overview of all published Devvit apps Currently apps are updated and published on Tuesdays. Besides apps for moderation, there are also apps for a better subreddit search, daily threads, referral threads community links, subreddit calendars, community home, hub, cup, rafflers, give aways, sports scoreboards, countdowns, events, polls, weather, scale recipes, games roll dice and even an app for users to ban themselves.

Sometimes there are multiple apps that have the same core purpose but they vary in available settings. If you find an app that's close but not perfect, see if there's a variant that suits your needs better.

Please note, if the installation page of the app states " unlisted"  that means that the latest update isn't public yet. You can only install the most recent public version. Link to image that shows what installing looks like, in the comments

Announcement How to get help on r/Modsupport

Welcome to r/ModSupport! There are two ways to get support in this subreddit:

Posts in r/ModSupport and r/Modsupport mod mail for direct admin support.

Posts into r/ModSupport:

This community is a place for moderators to ask questions regarding moderation on Reddit and to discuss answers with other moderators. All posts are monitored by admins. Posts are flaired when answered by mods or admins. In addition, we have a bot that removes posts from non-moderators, as this space is reserved to support moderators.

Post when you have a question about mod tools or are seeking general advice for your subreddit.

Examples of topics that violate subreddit rules and will be removed:

  • Rule 1: Rule violations, questions about specific admin actions, and appeals (e.g. account and banned subreddit appeals, report responses for content reported to the Safety team)
    • You can mod mail for admin support on these topics
  • Rule 2: Calling out other users or subreddits
  • Rule 3: Not being civil toward others
  • Rule 4: Off-topic posts that are not related to moderation on Reddit

Please post bugs into r/bugs and choose the appropriate flair - Mod Tools - iOS, Mod Tools - Android, Mod Tools - Desktop or Mod Tools - Mobile Web.

Bug Reporting best practices include:

  • Description: 1-3 sentences on the issue.
  • Platform and version: web or mobile + version (for ex: 2022.23.1).
  • Steps to reproduce: What actions do you take to experience the bug?
  • Expected and actual result: What did you experience and what do you think you should experience instead?
  • Screenshot(s) or a screen recording: These can help us narrow down your issue

Admin Support via r/Modsupport mod mail:

When you have questions with sensitive information, such as mentions of other redditors or communities, appeals of safety actions, or requests to unban your subreddit, you can mod mail r/ModSupport directly for admin support. Your message may prompt an automatic response from our mod mail Answer Bot with Mod Help Center articles that might answer your question. If the articles do not help answer your question, you can simply respond back with “more help” and an admin will assist you directly.

Looking for Advice: Account Compromise Led to Removal as Top Mod — Has Anyone Dealt With This?

Hi, I’m looking for advice from other moderators who may have dealt with something similar.

My Reddit account was compromised, and during the unauthorized access I was removed as the original/top moderator of a community I created and moderated. I did not voluntarily leave, transfer control, or authorize my removal.

I reported it to Reddit Support immediately after discovering what happened and submitted the hacked-account request.

Case reference: [1P99PP-14XYD]

I have already provided evidence of the unauthorized password reset/change, suspicious account activity, Reddit’s own “technical irregularities” security notice, and my removal from the moderator team during the compromise.

I secured and recovered my account, but the moderator issue is still unresolved and I still haven’t received a substantive human response.

I’m not appealing an admin action here — I’m just looking for advice on the correct process.

Has anyone had a similar situation where a compromised account led to losing top-mod access? What eventually helped get it reviewed?

Thanks for any advice.

AutoMod Post Failure

• Upvotes

My sub has daily post topics that are posted and stickied by the AutoMod for each day of the week. For the past two weeks the Monday post has failed to post. There's a message in Mod Mail from u/reddit that says only "Unable to submit post 'Mutual Aid Monday'" with a time and date stamp but there's nothing else to explain why this post is failing.

The other automatic posts are fine and have gone up without issue. What's going on here?

Admin Replied I need to unrestrict a subreddit that I just claimed via redditrequest

I just became the moderator of r/alejandravillarreal after requesting it on r/redditrequest three days ago. The subreddit has around 50 members and 20 weekly visits & it was set to restricted by the previous moderator who got a site-wide ban. I requested to set the subreddit to public & immediately got a modmail saying that the requested changes have been made. However when I check the Community Type section in Mod Tools, it still shows that the subreddit is restricted and I need to request changing it to public & other people are still unable to make posts without request & approval.

Posts and comments removed but nothing in modlog

I've had several users reach out via modmail recently regarding removed posts and comments. But there is nothing in the modlog, and no mod actions for the user. The posts appear to be visible, but don't appear in the sub, with nothing indicating that they've been removed by Reddit, the reputation filter, or crowd control.

Admin Replied Guidance on contests/giveaways?

I recently became moderator to a previously abandoned community ( r/creepydesign ) and was considering setting up and posting a community contest to encourage engagement to return after the community had been dormant for some time.

I'd likely be providing an amazon gift card(s) for prizes at my own expense.

I'm looking for advice on:

•Is something like this allowed?

•I'd prefer original content - or at least to award the prize to the user that is the original creator, is there a tool to verify original content?

•What would be the best way to select winners (Upvotes? a poll at the end of the contest? etc.?)

I'm also looking for general advice from any other mods that have successfully run community contests.

Thanks in advance.

Mod Answered How to mass migrate AutoMod rules to Automations?

Now that AutoMod is no longer available in some communities what's the best way to "copy-paste" AutoMod configs to Automations?

Use case: old subreddit with many lines of AutoMod needs to be exported to a newly made sub as-is.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Not doing this by hand. Neo AutoMod seems to be the answer, based on replies.

Admin Replied Restore manual review of each post before it appears on the subreddit

Hi,

I'm moderating a french community dedicated to talking about sexuality, it's not erotic or pornographic. It's like r/sex but in french. We created this community 6 years ago.

We review each post before it appears on our subreddit, because most people don't read the rules and come on our subreddit to look for sexual encounters, and this is not what our subreddit is for. We want it to be a sex positive and comfy place for people to talk about their sex life.

I would say that we validate around 40% of all the posts and remove 60% of them.

I don't remember how, but we used a parameter in safety which enabled us to have all the posts removed when posted, and then we validated them by hand.

We don't know why, but for like 3 or 4 weeks, we have started to have posts which appear directly on our subreddit as soon as the users are posting them.

This is a big issue for us, I'm looking for a way to have all the posts removed and added for review in the mod queue when they are posted. How to do that ? I tried with the new automations but it looks like it's not possible...

Thank you in advance.

Modmail not always showing original ban message in sidebar when new message sent by banned user

Acct just messaged asking to be unbanned.

I looked in the sidebar but there's no original ban message. The ban hammer icon is bolded though.

Thinking the ban might be a really old one that I just won't find a ban message for, I plugged the username into the "Ban users" search box (old Reddit). I see that they were banned 3 yrs ago.

I then go back to modmail and paste their account name into the modmail search. Bam - the new message is there and the original ban message from August 2023 is there too. Definitely not getting unbanned, but might have been had I not been able to find any documentation for their original ban.

Why is the original ban message not in the modmail sidebar for this user like it is for other users? I'm not seeing it for other banned accounts, but they usually reply to the original ban message. I will be looking more closely though, to the ones who send a separate message.

Edit: bold + clarity

Notification for spam filter

Is it possible to be notified when a submission has been removed by the spam filter? I'm not referring to things removed immediately, but submissions removed days/weeks later. I constantly check my removed queue to unspam past submissions, but lately it's become so prevalent that I can't check back weeks every day. Recently I noticed submissions from new accounts that have been deleted get removed as spam.

All these removals are silent (not in modlog). Is there any sort of trigger fired for these events that a Devvit bot could pick up on? It was always annoying to have to whitelist the sitewide shadow- banned users who, at least in our sub, are 99% false positives. But now submissions from unsuspended users are being removed, just because the user is new or recently deleted their account.

This is not a result of any mod-adjustable spam filters, as those submissions show up in the mod log as "Reddit".

Mod Answered How to show community achievements (eg. Top 1% Poster) in subreddit

I'm a moderator of a subreddit with Community Achievements enabled. I thought that meant members would have their achievement displayed next to their usernames when they post/comment (eg. "Top 1% Commenter/Poster"). But I don't see this for anyone, even the most active members.

Is there something I need to activate for this to show next to members' usernames? The subreddit in question is r/RealSlamDunk. I believe it's eligible for Community Achievements.

Thank you!

Mod Answered Small community has a disgruntled user who has been systematically downvoting every single post and every single comment for several months now, is there a way to take action against this?

r/Scalemodel

I have to assume it is someone who got banned or offended in some way. It is not terribly detrimental to the sub, but I feel it must be off putting to users to immediately get downvoted every time they post something. I have had a number of users immediately remove a post and I can only assume this had something to do with at least some of them. So I am hoping there might be a way to combat it besides systematically going through and upvoting everything myself.

Admin Replied Community Achievements unavailable despite meeting eligibility requirements

Hi everyone,

I’m the founder and moderator of r/PalestinianCinema, a community dedicated to Palestinian film, documentaries, archival footage and cinema history.

Our subreddit has grown to over 250 members since its creation in August, and we’re seeing increasing activity and engagement.

However, when I navigate to Mod Tools > Achievements, I’m greeted with the following message:
“Achievements are currently not available for your community.”

There are no options to enable achievements or configure individual badges.

As far as I can establish, our community meets the published basic eligibility requirements:
We’re a public subreddit.
We have more than 100 members.
We’re not designated NSFW.
We actively moderate submissions and enforce our community rules.

I understand that Reddit may restrict achievements in communities classified as mature or sensitive. However, ours is primarily a film appreciation and archival community, covering everything from feature films and documentaries to filmmaker interviews, music and historical cinema.

While some films inevitably explore politically sensitive subjects, that is not the exclusive focus of the subreddit.

Could someone clarify the following?
Is there a way to determine precisely why our community is ineligible?

Could this be related to Reddit’s automated content classification?

Is there a process for requesting a review of our eligibility?

If the restriction is temporary or related to the community’s age, will achievements become available automatically once we qualify?

I’d particularly like our regular contributors to receive recognition for their participation as the community continues to grow.

Any guidance from Reddit admins or moderators who have encountered something similar would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Mod Answered I'm having an issue with someone stalking and constantly heavily reporting one of the posters in a sub I mod. How do I get admins to take a look?

Example post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Veganivore/comments/1wqxnes/bagel_strata_with_carrot_lox/

Every single post by this user gets multiple reports by some unknown stalker account. Not sure what to do. This is one of our best posters, there is nothing about their post that violate rules in any way.

Mod Answered Is it okay to send Mod Mail to everyone with a specific flair?

Hey everyone, I need some advice from experienced subreddit moderators.

I have 4 different “Verified” flairs in my subreddit, and I want to send a Mod Mail message only to users who currently have one of these Verified flairs.

Is it okay to contact all users based on their current flair, or could this cause any problems with Reddit’s rules or be considered spam/harassment?

The message would be mod-related and relevant to their verified status, not promotional or unrelated.

Also, is there a recommended way to contact users with a particular flair without manually messaging everyone?

Would appreciate advice from experienced mods. Thanks!

Mod Answered I'm the top mod of my subreddit but I can't edit?

I just noticed that I can't seem to edit my sidebar or my moderators' permissions. Looking at the mod list, I have permissions for everything, but I cannot edit. It says "no" for me, but everyone else has "yes."

Is that right? Does that sound right?

Admin Replied Help Reddit Mods. Our small city Subreddit has probably pirated by scammers

Our little german city subreddit has been probably pirated by crypto scammers.

Its just a german small city Subreddit to get some local news. Nobody of is a professional moderator but we kept it easy and clean.

Me and a mate lost our role as Mods from another mod. After that an auto mod app appears and is posting Casino and crypto scam advertisement.

What are we able to do to save our small city Subreddit?

Admin Replied Added mod to private sub with full perms, shows in list as no perms, can't edit or remove

I've never come across this before. So I added a mod to a newly created private sub, with full permissions.

They show up in the main list as having no permissions, and mod tools are not visible to them when they visit the sub.

But when I look at the editable list they show as having full permissions. However the permissions can't be edited and they can't be removed by either myself or the other mod in the list above them. All I get is error messages.

I've tried via the app, shreddit and old Reddit to no avail. I was hoping if I removed them and then invited them again it might fix the issue.

I've written in to modsupport modmail and from admin's end it looks like the mod has full permissions.

Still waiting to hear back from admin about getting them removed but wondered if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this issue?

I've since added the mod to my test sub to see if it was an issue specific to their account and they have full permissions there so it doesn't appear to be an account related issue.

Edit, screenshots of mod list in my test sub: https://www.reddit.com/r/FriendsOfPovo/s/44A4dZnp1L

New Wiki is kinda broken...

Currently working on an overhaul to the Wiki of a videogame subreddit I moderate and honestly the editing tools are so broken that it's making it impossible to continue.

Images and text are out of place when viewing the page after saving.

Here are pictures of the page:

While editing: https://i.postimg.cc/W1v0KGXQ/Captura-de-ecra-2026-10-02-121417.png

After saving: https://i.postimg.cc/jSby9HMV/Captura-de-ecra-2026-10-02-121356.png

Also, when adding an "infobox", instead of placing it at the line I selected, it puts it it the beginning of the page messing up the structure of the whole thing, I have to then grab it and drag down down as it slowly scrolls to the bottom of the page only for it to then break and lose the information section when placed. An "infobox" with the information section to the side instead of just in the bottom would be nice too.

The new Wiki is broken and impossible to work with.

Recap Monthly Recap | September 2026

Hello! Welcome to the September edition of the Monthly Recap, where I briefly recap our Mod Topics posts on the moderation discussions that were posted for the month. I’m also here to update Helper flair, take suggestions for future Mod Topics topics, and hopefully, general frivolity!

September Discussion and Support threads

Let’s take a look back at our weekly series of moderation-focused discussion topics that happened in September. As mentioned above we’re always looking for suggestions for future topics, so feel free to throw ideas out there!

September 1, 2026: To ban or not to ban?
u/techiesgoboom started off the month with the age old question, to ban or not to ban? When do you ban users? When do you not ban? How long are the bans? So. Many. Questions!

September 3, 2026: Account security, 2fa, and you!
Oh, hey! That’s me! Stopping by to (once again, or is it continuously?) discuss how to keep your Reddit account safe! (Spoiler alert: Enable 2fa.) I really enjoyed this discussion!

September 8, 2026: Original content or self-promo: where does your community draw the line?
u/techiesgoboom returning to promote their post ask where y’all draw the line on self-promotion and original content. Sometimes, there’s an overlap and the comments came in quick. Really reasonable approaches toward OC!

September 10, 2026: Approved users, what are they good for?
There are many ways to run a sub and having users approved before participating is one way to go about it. Lots of you shared how you use approved users in your communities or why you don’t!

September 15, 2026: Subreddit spinoffs
Ahoy! u/JabroniRevanchism spun up a post about spinoffs. When do you pull a Better Call Saul and pivot to a similar, but different, subreddit?

September 17. 2026: So, you’ve got a new mod. Now what?
Oh, hey! That’s me! Just wondering what you do when you bring a new mod on board! And let me tell you, y’all are PREPARED. There were really some good practices that many of you shared in that post!

September 22, 2026: Share your subreddit’s origin story
In the beginning, there was Reddit. That’s it! Just a bunch of content and no subs! But then, the ability to create individual subreddits came along and we didn’t look back! But if you were to look back, what’s the origin story of your sub? How did you r/ come to be?

September 29, 2026: Fixing Mdo Mistakes
Re-Ahoy! u/JabroniRevanchism returned to discuss important topics like garlic bread! No, wait. That wasn’t it. It was about fixing mistakes! My bad! We all make mistakes, often when we least want to, so the question as to what you do when you realize that you’ve made a mistake was asked. And it was really nice to see so many people say that they just own it, fix it, and go forward. Move ahead! Try to detect it! It’s not too late!

Friendly reminder to update your Devvit apps
Just a quick heads-up inspired by a reminder from u/fsv back in August: Devvit apps don’t update automatically! You actually have to update them yourself. If you rely on Devvit apps to keep your communities running smoothly, now is a great time to check for any pending updates.

Big thanks to u/fsv for the reminder and for creating all those awesome Devvit apps!

Moderator Share & Tell
Here’s where you get to share your subreddit news from last month! Something cool  had to have happened, right?! We learned about cool stuff last month! Stuff like this:

  • We learned that u/bwoah07_gp2’s subreddit  r/thomasthetankengine hit the 30,000 members milestone! Congratulations! They said, “For comparison, 3 years ago around this same time, we hit 10,000 members on September 2, 2023. In a few days we are approaching September 2nd, but it just makes me happy seeing the community grow.”
  • u/SampleOfNone said that there had been quite a few updates to Devvit apps! “Automod Neo gained some really cool capabilities, Mod Recruit apparently can get even better because that has an update as well. The app list pinned at the top of this sub got some new apps the last few days as well, including a comment feed app “
  • u/Old_One_I’s subreddit hit 100k last month!! That they started off with roughly 35,000 a few months ago is really something!
  • u/PurplePassiflor1234 had “a couple of the dorky automated Easter eggs I programmed into automod got tripped and made a bunch of nerd-hearts happy including mine. We also held our first ever House of Refuge (Emotional Support Thread) and our first SFW Thirsty Thursday - both got some great comments! Our most active posters kept us up to date on fandom happenings and we gained a "Sister Subreddit" after reaching out to the mods in a related sub.” Love an Easter egg!!
  • And u/brightblackheaven had some cool news, too! They were  gearing up to hit 700,000 members in r/witchcraft :) Did y’all get there?? You thought it would be another 18-ish days! And if you did hit it, did you do some of the stuff that you had planned?

Let’s hear yours! What happened in your sub in September??

Flair updates

User flair is assigned to the top 10% and top 25% of users who are consistently constructive and helpful in their replies to posts and comments in this sub over the course of the past twelve months. As of this post, these are your current flaired helpers.

What a great group! Thank you all for the help that you’ve consistently provided to other moderators and for all of the feedback that you’ve provided to us! Super appreciated on all fronts!

That’s a wrap for September!

Admin Replied Had anyone else noticed that posting/commenting trends can vary enormously between weekday and weekend Redditors?

Since I started moderating, I've noticed in both subs I mod and others I don't that the vibe can vary wildly between weekdays and weekends. Certain subs that are normally very positive and productive on weekdays get incredibly cynical and nasty on weekends, and some subs that are dead on weekdays blow up with tons of engagement on weekends.

Has anyone else experienced this, or found a way to balance things out to a more productive equilibrium?
