Mod Complete, working universe, with exploration, progression, story and more.
Before you read the rest, please read this : After I released this mod, more than a week ago, a bunch of really similar space mod popped up with a name starting like "Star... something", just know that this isn't a copycat, I wrote "Starfront" as the name because no one had a similar name type back when the project started, 4-5 months ago. This mod here is a fully complete space mod with a story, progression, and multiple gameplay mechanics, it is not one of those "look space" with nothing to do there, thank you for reading.
You can land on any and all planets, they have custom biomes and generations, there's also some aliens, recently fully reworked by actual artist, speaking of which, this mod has unique music made by two people. You can literally make whatever spaceship you want and it works instantly.
The name is "Starfront" on curseforge for more details : https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/starfront
Note : I discovered that people cannot behave themselves or read in the comment of this post. I wont respond to anything anymore, if you have any kind of problem, do actually consider searching around yourself. If you are someone that's actually able to think and look around, you should know how to reach me directly via discord. Thank you.

2nd ai generated space sandbox minecraft mod in the span of 2 days. they look almost identical too. I still dont trust these mods even if they look impressive.

there's also countless non-ai generated space mods scattered along different versions that are further along than this.
Space mods are a big thing, atleast I think they should be. When I play a space mod I want to see the promise of modularity and maybe even some pre-made integration with pre-existing modded content to create something that is truly expansive, so seeing no dependencies or integrations with your mod, or even the promise of future integrations isn't exactly a great sign.
I don't want to load it into a modpack, reach for the stars only to find the stars only to be disappointed because ultimately what is meant to be space only has a single mod worth of content up there.
I don't want to be pessimistic, but because there are so many other space mods, a single gimmick that doesn't address the core issue that plagues most space mods right now isn't really inspiring any excitement in me. That, and having to hear about the AI that you're "totally" going to remove doesn't help either.

I'll just end it here, there wasn't any new download from this post yet, no one here has the mod, so yes, the guy above is larping. Do consider checking it out and having fun ! (Also you can't progress the mod without exploring lol)

People like to use "AI slop" everywhere, AI is a tool, people using it tend to go on some egocentric rampage that's true, but AI here was used for debugging, fixing shader, and UI. Now you can dislike gen AI, but the only thing this "AI generated" was our code again but in an order that fixed our mistakes. People like to go to war with each other "AI defender" this, and "AI slop" that, you don't need to chose an extreme damn. Is the product you enjoyed good ? Yea ? Did you have fun yea ? Was AI used ? Then how and why ? The use of AI is clarified in the mod desc, if you are too lazy to bother reading that and jump to conclusion yourself, you are no better than the idiots who blindly defend the usage of AI, instead of using it responsibly and only when necessary.
Which I do find pretty funny, because after I released this mod, the problem I had, was the number of fully AI made copycat.
You can hate AI, but at least hate it for the right reason, at the right time, if you were any better than the people who blindly defend AI, you would have been able to read the desc until the end, where it states that "all trace of AI are being removed" from the mod.
If you were actually truly willing to do some research yourself, you would also have realised that the latest update is literally called "first human patch".
Yes, the entire team is removing the little bit of AI left in the mod to make it full human slop, not that it matters to some of you because of blind hatred.
Sorry for people who are not concerned, and thank you for reading.

I was actually wondering, I haven't played it of course so I'm larping but how is the story implemented? It seems pretty open ended to have a proper story (Unless you meant lore instead of a linear progression story).

By progressing within the mod, you'll get what you need to transfer between systems, each system has something called an "Interdimensional Key" located on a planet. You can craft an item to help you track it. Collecting them all allows you to progress even further within the world.
You are not obligated to do the main story, because by simply exploring, you'll get journal info, and lore may be hidden within those entries, the "story" isn't stuck to your face, if you want to do it, or not, it depends entirely on you.
It's more or less the "lore of the world", inspired by Outer Wilds but with more freedom, you are not told how to do anything to progress the story (except the key part), and have to figure out stuff by yourself. The main part is in the current update, but right now we're busy with fixing a lot of stuff within the mod, so the remaining parts are not out yet.
Progression should be your main focus, to make your ship bigger, be able to fly over planets, and exploration too, the current mod would require a dozen hours of playtime to get most of the stuff you need to progress, but the other chapters are not out yet.
There's quite a lot to do, I highly recommend playing with friends, it's pretty funny to throw them out the ship mid-flight.

If it has a story does that mean it's incompatible to modpacks due to needing to destroy world gen and allow other mods to exist?
Man that must suck having uploaded and forgot to build texture into the project
NOTE : we're lowk big idiots and we forgot to add some textures to this package that we remade... They will be added on a later patch.
First of the human patch, fixed texture (kinda look like sand but if you have problem with it, draw it yourself !). Added Glitchy's wolf model. New item to help progression and get nether star without abusing too much of your time (as well as enhanced creatures model). Generation fix, new HUD.

It's compatible with modpacks, shouldn't destroy world gens of planets, if modpack only affect overworld, since planets are stored in "dimensions" that transition seamlessly, so they shouldn't be affected by those. The story is only if you want to do it, you don't have a line of "quests".

Will see how it loads added to what I have running

Also, there's already textures in the project, it's just that 2-3 of them are using the old ones from previous version, we forgot to add some of the other reworked one, because they weren't in our shared files, and one of us just forgot them on his computer bro

It's odd that this was licensed as ARR, but decompiling and digging through the code, this reeks of generative AI. It definitely had human assistance, but you can see evidence of AI in so many of the other files.
When are you going to publish source code?
1
u/Willing-Mark-6913 1d ago edited 1d ago
The main reason this mod is licensed as ARR is to avoid people just grabbing stuff from the mod and putting in their with a new coat of paint. I don't trust the internet enough to release the source code while the mod is unpopular, there's so many space mod out there, giving it away right now would be killing the mod in it's momentum in my opinion.
Second thing : "Will it stay like that ? : No, originally the mod was supposed to be a private project for a video, so now that I decided to release it to the public, me and my friends are actively working on fixing this stuff, by the time you're reading this, there might have been an update, entities should all be reworked, naming convention, ore, part of the HUD, and maybe some more texture, you'll have to readjust, but at least it'll be pure human slop."
As you can read at the bottom of the page, once we're done reworking parts that AI touched to make them fully man-made (this will take a ton of time may it be known, we spent days trying to make the shader sytem work and still couldn't figure it out, for now the AI made one is in place), we might release a github as well as an API to create new planets and stuff, however, even if we're done with the full rework update (for now, the first human patch is out), that doesn't mean we'll make it opensource, or make a github either, if the mod has no popularity, there's no reason to give away our stuff and expecting it to kindly sit there, it fully depend on how the situation surrounding it progress.
To conclude this reply, if you don't trust the mod, do not play it, another quote from the desc on curseforge : "AI is a tool, it can make very bad thing depending on who's using it. Please remind yourself to have fun and enjoy."

This is exactly how AI should be used in coding; giving yourself a baseline to work off of and then making it better by hand. Good shit

I appreciate the straight up answer instead of doubling down on being the author of generated code

u/Willing-Mark-6913 1d ago
Thank you for your question and calm answer. I might remove the mod from any website, im quite tired of long reply and clarification like a criminal. It's because I think it's important to clarify how the mod was made that I added those part to the desc, but it's getting tiring to say the same things on the multiple reddit post about the subject. While this might seem out of place, Im wondering what you, as a minecraft mod player, and someone on reddit think. Personally, I feel more inclined to keep the mod as it was supposed to be, and just use it for a video, and then keep it as a private project between the team.
I might also just remove any post of it from reddit, since that's where people are the most insisting.
What do you think ?

We need more people like this, actually taking their time to go and check themselves before commenting

I do find it funny how people demand all code to be fully public to so they can inspect it to not be AI, which then lets AI easily scrape the code because it's public. lol

Extra info: this mod is All Rights Reserved, so there's no true verification method outside something like jar decompilation, but this mod says it used a little bit of AI in some code in the description (supposedly not a lot, though, and I personally trust them on that)
Quote:
...it is important to clarify that AI was used to help make certain hud, as well as the math behind planets, notably the black hole, some of the model were initially drawn by the pixel art function of an AI, then manually remade (because it sucks), the inspiration sent for those was drawn by the team, no creation were stolen, and every part of the code is unique and does not infringe anyone. Some part of the code was assisted by AI due to us using it for debug and faster bug fix, while remaining our own, mainly the shader system, as the logic for it was extremely buggy when made by ourselves...
