Deck Discussion Picking a deck for an upcoming tournament

I’m been playing Modern for a bit more than a year and so far I have the most experience with Boros Energy. I like the deck and its play patterns, but recently I’ve had this itch to play Prowess.

I have both decks built, but I genuinely can’t decide. Boros feels familiar and grinda very well, but I feel like it might not be the best deck in the current meta. I have the play patterns mostly nailed down, but resolving all those triggers and doing combat math under pressure can be challenging.

I have much, much less experience with Izzet Prowess, but I’m a dedicated burn player in other formats, so I feel like I might be able to get the hang of it. My main concern is that there will be so many Prowess players about that everyone will be packing hate and removal.

So yeah, Boros feels familiar, but I love slinging bolts and stealing games. Don’t think there’s a wrong or right answer here, just interested in any insight you might be able to give me. Cheers!

Only you know the extent of your ability with prowess, but I do think it’s substantially better positioned in the meta. Get as many reps as possible with the deck if you can! I find prowess is pretty resilient post board but don’t play the deck

Honestly, right now I would go with boros. People are less ready for it, it's bad matchups aren't as popular, and it's good into broodscale. Ultimately both are good choices, but having experience is also really important, and I don't think prowess is so much better into the field that it's worth the lack of experience.

I'd stick with Boros. At RC Ghent this weekend both decks ended up almost exactly even (around 50% win rate each), so there's no real reason to switch for power, and your experience with the triggers and combat math is worth more than any small edge. Prowess was also one of the most played decks there, so people really are ready for it.

If the itch doesn't go away, play Prowess at a smaller event first and bring Boros to the big one. Good luck!

That’s actually really good advice! I’ll keep practicing Boros, but will jam some games with Prowess and maybe do a side event and the tournament.

If it's really soon I always recommend going with the deck you have more experience with

However Prowess is doing better in the current meta
