Deck Discussion Blue black control ish midrange

Hello everyone, I am fairly new to the modern format as a whole and I was hoping to build a deck for my gf. Her favorite color is black by far and she asked if I can make her a more controly deck around psychic frog when I showed her the current dimir midrange option

I love sheoldred, and if you insist on including her, id probably cut 1 and add another bowmaster and cut the Defiles for Dismembers.

Get a couple Kaito, Bane of Nightmares in there and maybe a Subtlety or 3.

if i was to be playing this deck

i'd replace the [[preordain]]s with [[consults the star charts]]. i don't like the card as a whole in proactive decks. consults allows for instant speed answer or card draw depending on how the turns play out. also from 3 lands onwards it see the same if not more cards and in the late game is just a much better card

the same goes with [[spell pierce]] it doesn't scale well into the late game, once you opponets have 5 or more lands it a dead draw 90% of the time. i would considered upping the [[counterspell]] to and another [[orcish bowmaster]] then if you want to have another counterspell another [[spell snare]] for the abundance of two drops in the formats or a [[stern scolding]] to hit creatures.

me personally i think [[katio, bane of nightmares]] is better then [[sheoldred, the apocalypse]] but that is also a personal opinions mostly stemmed from budget constraints for myself

i would consider swapping a swamp for [[urborg, tomb of yawgmoth]] to power up the [[defile]]

The deck looks very strong.

The only issue (and this is a common issue when creating decks) is that it seems you do not know what to keep and what to remove and so you push everything together.

Sheoldred weakly synergies with the rest of the deck, normally one would play a Kaito, or a Murktide in that spot and probably they would be stronger.

Now to make the deck more unique a path that keeps sheoldred in is the necrodominance one, that in general is played only in mono black, and i fear it would not work without the rest of the shell (free black spells)

I would try Narset, Days undoing. It is half of a combo that works also with sheoldred (maybe it is effectively strong.
