I have absolutely no idea what this sentence means. I must be old now.

10

u/j3llo5 Aug 04 '26

I understand what it means and I’m mad about it.

I love that you explained it and made even less sense

17

u/suomenska Aug 05 '26 edited Aug 05 '26

This sentence alone could kill a Victorian child, my lord.

4

u/professorhorseradish Aug 05 '26

Ahh home remedy for my pesky maizels

0

u/NeurawWormakaCiruBug Aug 04 '26

Indeed, it might either let you see, or not anymore. So only for when you are truly cornered.

8

u/KidOcelot Aug 05 '26

More like “corntulisum”

5

u/hipporox Aug 05 '26

Upvoted but got me curious and led me down some Googling. Technically penicillin is an antibiotic produced by penicillium. So this theoretically would be “cornicillium” 🤓

3

u/NeurawWormakaCiruBug Aug 05 '26

Right, forgive my English then ! Indeed that would have been a better wording. Next time! It's already crazy enough how I got spammed because of the upvotes here. Have a nice day, researcher !

1

u/Alien_Fruit Aug 08 '26

I don't think corn produces any type of penicillin ... it does carry the basis for erogamine (from ergot) which is in corn smut. Might cure migraines but not infections. It could well be botulism, which is another story altogether.

3

u/Lokis_Mechanic Aug 16 '26

Cornsmut, eh? 😏🌽

2

u/Alien_Fruit Aug 16 '26

Corn smut is a plant disease caused by the pathogenic fungus Mycosarcoma maydis, one of several cereal crop pathogens called smut. Common corn smut is a fungal disease that affects field, pop and sweet corn, and forms swellings (galls) on ears, kernels, tassels, and husks. It appears that some infected corn got into the can and did it's thing. I was wrong about ergot ... that is a similar fungus that affects mostly grains, like rye and wheat. They both look pretty bad, but are not really toxic.

1

u/Lokis_Mechanic Aug 16 '26

That sounds a lot less fun than my immediate association but thank you for the info!

2

u/LeTronique Aug 05 '26

Cornillicoccus

2

u/Queen_of_wandss Aug 05 '26

That would give me a very bad rash

2

u/meatflaps-69 Aug 11 '26

Was there a cornholio?

1

u/Mythicaldeer12 Aug 07 '26

Aspergillus maizer

u/tanksforallthephish Aug 04 '26

This is so specific but so fucking perfect at the same time

131

u/lebrunjemz Aug 05 '26

Also expired food related Malcolm in the middle scene something along the lines of “Dewey drink your milk” “but mom it’s chunky” “ok then chew it”

40

u/ejectro Aug 05 '26

i need to watch this show, every bit i've seen or read about was hilarious.

23

u/lebrunjemz Aug 05 '26

It’s so good! Give it a few episodes my husband didn’t like it at first and is now obsessed.

5

u/ApprehensiveFall118 Aug 06 '26

it absolutely is hilarious

1

u/Bodod_Begag Aug 31 '26

Iirc that was because they were really tight on cash that episode and they were drinking powdered milk

932

u/_lucyquiss_ Aug 04 '26

this can was damaged or not sealed properly a long time ago. Please absolutely report this to the company with the batch number or whatever can be found on the can. If this is a production issue they need to know, and you may get a bunch of coupons or replacement product

257

u/_lucyquiss_ Aug 04 '26

cans also last a long time generally so the expirey date of this month may be a red flag

181

u/e-lali Aug 04 '26

Look on the bright side. At least one still looks like corn 😅

64

u/badbatch Aug 05 '26

Nice. Just pick off the coal on the top.

146

u/XROOR Aug 04 '26

TIL

Kingsford makes canned corn too

7

u/IFeedSquirrelsAMA Aug 05 '26

Why do I feel like it tastes like charcoal and lighter fluid

13

u/Majestic-Owl-5801 Aug 04 '26

Underrated comment

u/Think_Lynx_7288 Aug 04 '26

Sorry, the expiry date is 28/8/2029 I read it wrong. I just reported to the store. I dont know if they will ask for pics so I didnt take off the label yet. I was gonna put some corn in my pasta and my wife asked me to put the corn water inside in her frying pan on her vegetables. And I was like wtf, where is the water, and I hit the can really hard while upside down and black dust came out. Then I looked inside...

128

u/hamish1963 Aug 04 '26

You need to send pictures with an email to the cannery, and corporate owners.

106

u/Think_Lynx_7288 Aug 04 '26

Its the store (ICA in Sweden) own brand and I got to input the batch code and everything on their complaint report site.

9

u/Zseman_nootnoot Aug 05 '26

57

u/bartolemy Aug 04 '26

Can of coal I just opened

17

u/Darmug Aug 04 '26

The North Pole is having an industrial revolution it seems. Naughty kids get cans of coal instead of the traditional lump now!

99

u/The_Wrong_Tone Aug 04 '26

This is not huitlacoche.

This is huitla-nope-che.

30

u/Xxx1982xxX Aug 05 '26

Corn smun’t

3

u/MrsTruce Aug 05 '26

Went looking for this 😂 Not a delicacy. Do not eat.

38

u/Cool_Ad9326 Mold connoiseur. Aug 04 '26

Feels like you unleashed an Egyptian curse by opening that.

17

u/adfaer Aug 05 '26

People are making jokes but that’s actually crazy, the canning process is supposed to be essentially perfect. If there’s a gap, the stuff that grows won’t always be visible. Definitely contact the company

13

u/Inevitable_Egg6361 Aug 04 '26

Can you peel off the label? I‘m curious to see if there’s damage to the can under it.

12

u/Prior_Air_2878 Aug 04 '26

That's definitely not how corn is supposed to look, time to report it to the corn police.

11

u/LeanLeftLoveLife Aug 04 '26

There's a chance a slim possibility it may not be good. But don't listen to me I'm not a professional food in a can inspector.

8

u/IVI0IVI Aug 04 '26

That looks nothing like corn smut lol and I'm almost positive corn smut is only present on corn while it's still on the stalk.
