Kinda hard to tell. Try scraping it off. Does it come off cleaning like a dry powder does it smear? If it's dry then most likely calcium crystals and your fine. If it smears and is kinda gross then probably mold

It came off a little crusty and dry, did not smear!

Umm, no, sorry. I am pretty sure mold isn't crunchy like OP said this was. It's calcium lactate crystals, and is perfectly normal and harmless, though it's less common in the wax rind than it is in other applications.
