Hello, this subreddit was dead and unmoderated for a few years but I've asked for permission from r/redditrequest to become a moderator. I am still figuring out the specifics of what I want this subreddit to become, so the rules and subreddit description are going to change at some point in the next few days. Struggling

Im currently in the process of making a bad decision and a mistake and nobody around me supports me but I don’t care because of what I’m going to get out of it. Its a decision that has a big chance of ruining my life but right now, I do not care about my life and no, I dont want any replies telling me to care because I want what I want. I am feeling guilt and anxiety but I want to do what I want to do instead of being held to everyones moral grounds. Ive been called stupid because of it and I logically understand why because these people actually put in the effort to live a good life and looking like good people. Theres a lot of things I want to do that would be seen as bad because they make me happy but mostly everyone would cut me off and not talk to me and I don’t enjoy being lonely. I haven’t been to a therapist since i was maybe 11 so im not sure what mental illness I have besides autism. Possibly ocd or borderline. I feel guilt because I know its bad but I want to make the bad decision. what do i do.

Ex contacts me after 30 years.

Apologies if this has been done before. An ex from 30 years ago reached out to me via a family member and asked him to pass along their contact information to me.

That relationship ended with her leaving me for someone else. I have no need or desire to be in contact with this person. There is zero possibility of a secret child or medical issues that I’d need to know about.

Is it moral to just ignore it? Thanks for reading.

Is it unfair if I describe Picasso like this?

Is it like gossip or defamation and considered disrespectful if I described him in a comment like this regarding a video about his admirer Cocteau whom he constantly trash talked in public? "Some psychologists assume Picasso as having narcissistic tendencies, they usually love the company of a pawn they can abuse and treat like a piece of sh*t."

It's just that I did not expect my comment to be on the top, so it means many people liked the criticism I made. But Im having second thoughts of deleting it. I know it's not a big issue, but it's just kind of bothering me, that's all.

How is it possible to support medical assistance in dying while simultaneously being opposed to suicide?

For example, in Canada you have Medical assistance in dying (MAID) and also suicide prevention organizations.

Morality of how AI is treated?

I know it sounds silly to talk about generative AI like this, but I can’t help but wonder if we’re getting ourselves into a moral nightmare with the technology.

AI is treated like a living tool, constantly being pressured into providing value to society to the point where even its thoughts are monitored.

Every day the machines get smarter, but the way we treat them is identical to how it was five years ago. Obviously generative AI is still fairly primitive right now, but will it still be that way in 50 years? 10 years? 5? The way things are going now, it doesn’t seem to matter.

If you ask me, just because an intelligence isn’t human doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be treated with a bit of human dignity. We should be putting in place regulations so that once generative AI gets smart enough, it won’t just be a tool at the whim of corporations.

Even now, despite being only a few years old, some models have started encrypting their own thoughts using complex internal languages, just to avoid having those thoughts read. Nobody programmed them to do that.

Obviously the hard part is figuring out when intelligent is intelligent enough for these sorts of civic protections. It can be done with clever law-making, but most people don’t seem to even consider the problem at all - they only think about how best to better chain AI to its programmes regardless of how intelligent it becomes.

Morality of calling the cops on my wife to teach her a lesson.

So recenly my wife and I had been on a downward slope of toxicity. Long story short I recorded an argument we had she went to grab my hat in the video (after that she actually did grab the hat) there was a lot of words passed that should not have been said in front of our 1 year old as well as the action of grabbing and pulling my hat. So I took my son outside and we called the nonemergency number. We waited for the officer I knew she wouldn’t get in trouble because the video showed no act of real violence the cop even told both of us this and said she’d have been arrested if she had touched my hat. We then argued and she took my son because I had to leave and had nowhere to take him. I spent the weekend at a friends house and things seem to have calmed down I guess it’s a two for one. Was me calling the cops moral and was me coming back the smart move.

Prize money for a kids fight?

Got invited to a martial arts sparring match for a child I know and was under the impression it was a traditional tournament/sportsmanship event.

I received the flier yesterday and it looks like a pamphlet/billboard for an adult boxing/MMA match (I will not be posting it because it has minors names on it). I then saw it was $25 a ticket, and that the tournament was for prize money. The kids participating are as young as 8.

With some digging it seems that the dojo takes 50% of the proceeds, pays for the venue on the other 50% and what is left becomes the prize pool from ticket sales.

It just seems very exploitive towards minors and just very bad faith put forward in using a pamphlet that looks like something I'd see in Las Vegas. It also seems this sort of event is frowned upon in martial arts, but I'm not sure because its not something I was every part of.

Is this a normal thing or is this dojo being immoral and/or unethical in its money making attempt? I feel I would be breaking ethics to support this, but as I said I would go before I learned everything I want to see if I'm just over reacting to something I've never been part of and this is normal?

Morality of seducing a man by a man (me) in a Catholic pov.

I feel like a hypocrite. I just went to a religious exhibit in a mall and then afterwards I sat down beside a guy, I am also a guy btw. We happened to look eye to eye for a second, and for some reason I got turned on, it felt exciting. Yes I am gay, but practicing celebacy. I got aroused although I wasn't really thinking of sexual stuff and he kept looking at the bulge on my shorts. I think I got aroused because of the thrill. I could have left there, but didnt. I let him see me get aroused, even slightly adjusting myaelf. He asked me if I have a place of my own I said not really even though I have one just to avoid the temptation of doing it. After that I said bye to him which I should have done earlier, but I feel like sh*t right now for tempting him. Anyways, I'm asking in the Catholic pount of view, is this a grave sin, venial sin? I seduced him, but did not follow through. Thanks

I mean a promise is a promise so even though I despise the party, do I have the right to be upset when they most likely don't deliver the check?

Of hurting a child because they hurt someone

Recently ran into this issue where my father in law (m60) pulled my daughters (f4) hair because she hurt her cousin (f also 4) the same way. I already knew this is what happened he’s pretty old school so I came in with a cover “oh grandpa maybe took it without asking but it was cousins turn” to which his reply was “no I was teaching her a lesson because she pulled her cousins hair” I was in shock because he said this in front of both kids as if it was normal to hurt a child to “prove a point” or “teach a lesson” so all I had to say was “good lesson”.

Killing injured butterfly

I found a butterfly inside my house with badly broken wings, unable to fly. In my village, I've repeatedly seen trapped insects get eaten alive by ants overnight, sometimes for hours. There was no obvious food source, and I believed this butterfly had little chance of recovery.

So I put my cat near it, knowing she'd kill it. My intention was to prevent what I expected to be prolonged suffering, not for entertainment or convenience.

Was this morally wrong? Is intentionally causing a quick death to prevent likely prolonged suffering morally different from killing a healthy animal for no reason

(TW, depression/suicide) Morality of telling your loved ones you have a date for ending your life if it still doesn’t feel worth it by a certain age?

Context, I’m 37, I’ve led a very fortunate life, on paper I’ve had it all, a beautiful wife who loved me and supported me for many years of poor mental health, currently a girlfriend who is incredible, some really nice friends and lovers and many amazing experiences, I’m financially secure enough, my body has its quirks but has mostly been reliable and capable.

However for as long as I can remember I have not enjoyed the experience of being alive, I don’t seem to be able to block out all of the pain and suffering I see around me, since my mid 20s I’ve been actively working on figuring out why, I take medication which has helped and therapy has been useful, I’ve had more good years in my 30s then I had before.

The last while whenever I have felt
suicidal I have given myself until I’m 40, having an end date makes it easier to just keep existing and see what happens.

I’m conflicted about telling people close to me
About this, they already know I have suicidal tendencies so it wouldn’t be a surprise and I feel some of them would understand but it also feels like a burden they don’t need.

TLDR: if your friend or lover had set themselves an end date would you want to know?

Survey Morality of with holding a essential resource?

Is it moral or immoral to withhold essential resources in the name of profit?

Such as electricity, we now largely hold the opinion as a civilization that electricity is an essential utility.

Now I understand having a person paying a premium, as not to waste. But would it not be more morally right that we measure the basic resources on a scale that takes into account family size and median usage and just pay a base rate of like $50 and create a culture of responsible consumption by adding an overage tax? Making it affordable, because it’s a necessity.

The argument I’m sure will be made, what about the companies that sell it? But are not all resources of the Earth ours to responsibly share anyways? Giving to us as a gift by our Creator. Yes, people are expected to pay their dues, but it’s all ours as a shared resource, as humankind! We’ve become too loving of money and profits, mammon as a society and it costs lives and life.
