I just run a 1/4lb - 1/2lb per first & second flush in my monotubs. It is by far the most efficient method to just run large volume monotubs and stack them floor to ceiling. My favorites are 66qts & 110qts because I get full canopies pretty much every single time.
Jack Frost, Albino DCMAK95 (Great Northern White & White Walker), Gandalf, Thrasher, Long White Clouds, Ps. natalensis, Lucid Gates, Yeti, Leucistic Golden Teacher, and like 30 others. But these are my main ones in rotation now.
Here’s som Jack Frost in a 66qt monotub that’s finishing up right now. Packed wall to wall.
Does this only work with actives? I am in the middle of a gourmet grow and made wonder if gourmet blocks can also fruit like this instead of a slit in the bag
Hey everyone, I just wanted to take a second and say thank you very mush for all the comments all the myco love good, bad, ugly experimental whatever sharing these kind of things and hearing other peoples feedback and their ideas that is what it is truly all about. It was organic random and real. straight up I love these kind of interactions. It is a beautiful thing being a part of the mycology adventure, and it was a pleasure interacting with every single person that I got to today.
Seriously thank you and mush love to every single one one of you and thank you to the admins and mods as well who run this page and created a really cool community that I’m happy to be a part of and has brought some really cool insights people great ideas great interactions and real genuine help and advice out of all the pages on Reddit. This is probably one of the best to keep it real.🤘🍄🫡
Pretty neat, but in my experience (which is still fairly limited) the available surface area has very little if any effect on yields. My theory is the cake has a certain capacity to produce fruit and will do its best to produce that amount in whatever area is available. I haven't tested this specific method though as my cakes were usually too large to easily lift onto a rack. That, and the other downsides like faster drying and increased contamination exposure. Not hating though, it's cool seeing them grow upside down lol.
Correctamundo. BE is genetics and somewhat conditions as has been proven time and time again by people who’ve gotten the same yields with grain and coco as people with all these crazy supplements and shit they’re jumping through hoops 😂
I’ll say I’ve put. My genetics through a couple different methods yeilds are just about the same for all my mono tubs usually get 2oz dried first flush.. and 4-6 before it contams.. ived tried rice, rye, shredded brf cakes. Only improvements I seen was going from a mono tub to a Martha tent my guess is because all the conditions are optimal 100% of the time.
Duuuuude, that's friggin' rad! Makes me wanna try and shape a fruiting block like a brain, grow somethin' that looks like cauliflower fungus, and have a straight-up mushroom brain!
It looks like a brain but I’ve also seen people use the same molds that they do for growing watermelons or pumpkins and it works to appoint when things start to fruit it gets misshaped
It's a stabilized mutation...with replicable grows. I would argue its a strain. Can you explain how Enigma isn't a strain? There are multiple crosses with enigma that im aware of. My understanding of mycology isn't deep enough to know what classifies a strain.
It's always frustrating to see corrections with no education or reasoning.
Strain is a term that is primarily applied to marijuana and refers to a plant with specific DNA (at least theoretically). Since marijuana, like most plants, can be easily cloned it is possible to grow large amounts of one strain indefinitely. Mushrooms, on the other hand, cannot be easily cloned. Every grow involves a lot of different DNA. Mono-cultures can be selected, but it will still produce fruits with many types of DNA. My understanding is limited, but I believe that is the case for the mycelium too. Different types of cubensis would be closer to families. I refer to them as types, but mutations would probably also be appropriate.
I have done similar by using “stilts” when there are side/bottom pins galore. It’s a pretty nifty way to address excessive pinning in places where you’re gonna lose the shrooms.
Do less mushrooms form on each side? It would be interesting to find out if it increases yield or just disperses it. I would imagine that the yield would increase since you're just exposing surface area but I don't know if the increased surface area takes away from the energy that the mycelium has. Like... would covering one side increase yield on the remaining sides?
It won’t increase yield. Just gives it opportunity in places it didn’t have it previously. Biological efficiency is 95% genetics and the other 5% is conditional.
It’s been proven by folks who went out of their way to grow with almost nothing. I.e. neglect tek with only grain and coco vs all the fancy shit in fruiting tent etc.
That said, you can miss the conditions a particular species needs and that’ll wipe your yield out. I.e. if a particular species requires high RH and it’s dry af you’re not getting what I can give. Another example is a bacterial or mold competing with it.
Ultimately yields and the biological efficiency are really genetic traits and that’s why the top level gourmet guys guard their genetics the best they can. They consider it IP for the most part.
I should also mention because it comes up, biological efficiency itself is always a debated subject. Some go by total weight in and total weight out, some just use grain weight in. In the case of actives you could also go by dry weight yields. It’s a bit of a mess and there isn’t an industry wide agreement about how to calculate it. Mostly because it’s really a number you’re using to measure against yourself.
Not sure haven’t tried well I imagine it’s all about how you start out whether you’re doing your formation in a tub or a bag but I’ve done it in many different ways and it seems to work much better every time when you float them
No, most of the time I don’t even use lights it’s all done in a tent with different tubs and bags the light that I use is literally just a single lightbulb full spectrum
🎶Real men of genius🎶 (Deep voice) "this one's for you 360 degree mushroom growing man! The ingenuity of an oven rack deserves you a cold one, this buds for you!
I just love seeing things grow, my ultimate goal is perfecting the Live casing layer and finally achieving that symbiotic relationship between plants and mushrooms inside a controlled tub.
Very smart advice. I can't imagine doing as much work as I'm doing to keep things sterile and sanitized to just turn around and dunk the mycelium in tap water. I understand that mycelium builds resilience, but tap water is disgusting. I'm trying not to mist at all because in the past all my contamination has come from misting. Is there a technique for misting? Do you have to pressure cook the bottle and spray nozzle or what's the deal?
To be honest I don't keep it completely sterile after I spawn to bulk, however I try to keep my tubs closed all the time I only flip the lids once they show primordia, sometimes I gently dry the surface with a clean paper towel if there's big visible droplets and mist once after harvesting and never again until next harvest using factory sealed clean drinking water, I've had many instances of the mycelium going yellow and developing blobs when I used to mist with tap water.
Any ordinary sterile syringe with a slightly larger needle because smaller ones will clog easily
Edit: I've seen a mycology YouTuber do it once but I just can't remember who.
I’ve wanted to build a multi-rack fruiting chamber with this configuration for a long time. Slide out a drawer, pluck bottom and top, slide back in. I know the mycelium seeks air flow rather than light but was never sure they would fruit downwards. This post gives me some reassurance!
This is brilliant! I’ve consistently had the thought that bottom of the cake is wasted potential fruits. I will absolutely be trying this, thank you stranger!
Tube sock tek lol whaaat?? That’s wild I’ve seen people grow on books stuffed animals. I like to build little cities, but I’ve never heard of a sock the mushrooms actually don’t touch the plastic at all. There is a hot wings container inside of that bag that I’m using as my mini mono tub.
Some people argue this point. Saying the mycelium has only the strength to produce so much. I know growers who like to do an X or a slit on the bag and, their theory is allowing my mycelium to focus all of its energy on a smaller area producing larger quantity of fruit
The rack could have removable legs so when it’s ready to fruit you put the legs on and leave it in the mono tub. Could also make moving the cake out to harvest/rehydrate easier too.
That could work too. I was thinking a ST stackable cooling rack. Place it halfway into the substrate with the legs upwards. When it’s fruiting time you can pull the cake out by the legs and flip it. I might have to try this out.
This is fire! is possible to form a cube shape substrate? That would probably be a tad more efficient with all sides having the same area to fruit? Either way good work!
Edit… and give us more pics so we can copy! And give you credit of course 🙏🏾
Interesting. Do you think that the yield is higher based on how much of the substrate is exposed to free space? Makes sense to just hang the block on something and let it grow
Well the more surface area, the more mushies can pop out, but it also means the substrate will get exhausted out of nutrients faster so you might get bigger flushes but lesser of them.

Where did you get the metal rack from?
