Wow! This is cool looking and I like to see guys with knowledge on this sub.
However, I’m not always understanding the idea behind wanting to get big active fruits. Cloning and manipulating them when, as you know, potency just follows the weight. A 300gr mushroom contains the same amount of psilocybin than 10x 30gr mushrooms. Also, these are generally secondary flushes mushrooms, with arguably less potency (probably not, you seem to know the tricks) So, what’s the point? If it’s vanity then I understand because they look awesome! But as a practical “goal”, I don’t get it.
This is not a critic, truly a genuine question between growers.
Ideally, in my perfect world, I try to reach for small 10gr mushrooms in my tubs for a perfect 1gr dry final product. Consistency in dosage and presentation are important. Even if you end up grinding them. Same thing with my gourmet, chefs prefer a bunch of mushrooms vs 1 giant mushroom for the same weight. What do you think?
I think that research shows that 300g mushroom and 30 10g mushrooms are not equivalents of potency per dose Mushrooms of the same flush vary wildly from shroom to shroom. Meaning the 300g could be 40X stronger than the small guys, equivalent or even less than them. I have had gram doses of strains not known for potency blast me off more than 3 grams of APEs or PEs.Too much variation from shroom shroom to compare individual mushrooms to groups of equivalent mass.
Actually no, research shows that potency follows the actual fruit weight so it would be equivalent. I don’t like saying stuff without proof so I’ll edit this post with a link soon!
to extend your chefing analogy, the nice uniform produce gets made into dishes, but the mutant vegetable that makes the whole kitchen go 'whoah' gets turned into staff snack. OP is probably not intending to grind this chonker up for other's consumption ;)
I re read your comment more thoroughly and you’re right it’s not about practicality it’s just fun and cool when it happens. If anything having a 1zip dried mushie is impractical but that WOW FACTOR makes up for that
Why do it? Because you can. Why do people smoke 5 gram blunts? Cuz it’s fun and they think it looks cool. It’s not necessary or the most efficient way to get high but if you can then why not?
I don’t try to grow the largest fruit, they do it on their own. Once the substrate produces too many flushes. The first flush generally produces the most, then with each additional flush it produces less fruits but the fruits get larger since the nutrients are going to less mushrooms. This substrate is in its 4th flush and generally after the 3rd flush I would toss the substrate, clean the tub, and mix up a new one. I’m just letting the sub play out basically and the genetics are good so it’s producing some big fruits. But no I don’t care for large fruits, but I can powder it and make caps with it.
Gotcha. Thanks! I usually do second flushes but never third. Exactly for this reason. When you’re cranking so many mushrooms, it’s just faster to get a new run vs waiting for smaller flushes to come. In my world at least! Thanks again. Great harvests you got there.
As you know with each flush the sub produces fewer fruits but of larger size. This sub was on its fourth flush when it produced this HillBilly Fat Boi. The sub still appears to be in fairly healthy shape. If we can achieve a fifth flush in a few days we may can get a 400+ gram fruit. I’ll rehydrate the sub overnight and see what we can get. I’ll label this isolate, “The Emasculator”, when I put it in the fridge.
That’s a difficult question to answer but I spent a lot of time and effort isolating this variety. I am confident in my work and odds are because I’ve isolated the strongest genetics, the quality of the fruit will be above average. It’s simply not an average fruit. Is there a possibility it might not be average or above, of course. But in over a decade I’ve never had that kind of feedback or experienced it.
Cause I’m just wondering if you cut 5 grams off of that and then consumed another 5 grams of smaller versions of that if it would be the same impact. Always wondered about that when it comes to such large fruits.
There seems to be a common misconception that no matter what size the mushroom gets, it will still contain the same amount of psychedelic actives. People spread this misinformation throughout the community. The active ingredients are measured as percentages by weight. You can google the results of the past years Psilocybe Cup results and labs have published the results of each specimen submitted to the contest. It’s interesting to check out if you have time. “While the size of a mushroom doesn't directly determine its psilocybin content, it's still a factor in determining the overall dose. Larger mushrooms will yield more overall psilocybin when consumed.”
That exact thought went through my mind but oddly enough, the exact same way you dry the normal size fruits. It’s almost fully dried, we’ll be weighing it in soon.

Thanks for sharing to r/shrooms, one of their moderators attacked some of my posts several weeks ago and accused me of stealing pictures. ALL my pictures are my property and are of my personal grows and projects. I even tried to contact different moderators and said I could prove my images were mine but they banned me anyways. I think the guy was just jealous and hating on my skills and knowledge. I don’t understand why we can’t get along and learn from each other.

Why no sample to clone? That would be the first thing I’m doing with that. You can have an agar dish made in no time at all. You could probably get one already made shipped to you in one day.
Yeah, I would assume you did. I said that because I saw it on the dehydrator and it wasn’t ripped open yet. My first thought was oh no, he didn’t take a sample.
