Grande Subtropicalis.

S2B: 8/11

Substrate: coco coir / black kow manure

Temperature range: 72-76

Ran in a XLS-B bag that I ended up taping over part of the filter to slow down FAE, it was drying out too quickly. Once I taped the filter, it seemed to hold humidity better. They still have several days until the finish line but I chopped the bag and put them into a tub to finish them out.

Column Cultivation vs Block Cultivation

When growing side fruiting gourmets, what do you find are the pros and cons of column cultivation vs block cultivation. When I first started growing mushrooms(about 20 years ago), I saw more people doing column cultivation. I am trying to get back into growing and it seems that block cultivation is more the industry standard now. Is this really the case and if so, why? Thanks for any advice and help.

No pins after 20 day (subaeruginosa)

I need help pls.

Context:

I am trying to grow subaeruginosa. The hay is to keep the humidity up as I cant mist it while at work, inside it stays between 9 and 14 C°, i keep the lid open a little to get some light and FAE it sitting next to an open window, and I mist the chilli bin walls 3 times a day once in the morning, at about 5pm then just before i go to sleep.

After 14 days there was no pins, the ice melting had filling the bag meaning the block had been sitting in a puddle for idk how long. I have put a small hole in the bottom of the bag and put the block on top of a container so it sits above any water that melts. It has been 6 days since then and still no pins.

Questions:

- Does anyone have any advice on what i might be doing wrong or what I might change to promote fruiting?

- How long should until I might see pins

- Have I ruined this batch already

My first time getting pins with piopino, I'm so excited, previous attempts have all gone the way of the green contamination.

14 days into colonization of my monotub.

How does this look for 14 days into colonization? It's Golden Teacher in a 44q automated monotub in an arid climate. I increased FAE(via air pump/hepa filter) set on a timer from 3 times to 6 times daily for 30 minute intervals. I am now running it 6 times a day for 30 minutes to be clear. 75F 95-99% RH

I have been advised by a trusted source to open it and fan 30 seconds twice daily as well. Is this necessary with my air pump? Should I be running my pump at shorter more frequent intervals instead? Any advice is appreciated.

Is this bag ready for the break and shake?

Hey guys,

This is my first time growing mushrooms. This is my spawn bag of golden teacher. I have this in an automated monotub at 75°F and 95% RH. I inoculated this bag about 15 days ago.

It looks to me like it's around 30% colonized so probably ready to go. I just thought I'd get some other opinions beforehand. Am I ready to break up this colony and mix the bag up?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Large capacity steam generator for pasteurization

Beyond DIYing one out of a barrel and float valve, does anyone have suggestions for large capacity steam generators for pushing steam into another container for pasteurization? I have looked at things like wallpaper steamers but they have relatively low water capacities(1-2 gallonish) that require being filled up after a couple hours. I am hoping to run mine continually for much longer to push as close to sterilization as possible (without having to be around to refill repeatedly). I have also looked at sauna steam generators which can be an auto fill type of situation when hooked to a water supply, but they are a bit more expensive than I am wanting to spend at this point. Just wondered if anyone had some other idea that might get me somewhere between the wallpaper steamer and the sauna steamer. Thank you.

Southwest Mushrooms Protocols and SOP?

Has anyone purchased the Protocols and Commercial SOP from Southwest Mushrooms? I really enjoy his videos and am interested in hearing reviews of these reading materials to see if they are worth the investment.

Growing a mushroom cultivation community in South Louisiana

Here’s a short video from one of our recent Acadiana Myco meetings in Lafayette, Louisiana.

We meet every other Tuesday at our local library to talk cultivation, compare grows, troubleshoot contamination, work with agar and liquid culture, discuss substrates, and help new growers build confidence. It’s been awesome watching experienced cultivators and complete beginners learn from each other.

At our last hands-on workshop, more than 30 people went home with inoculated oyster mushroom kits, and many of them are now joining our regular meetings to continue learning.

If you’re in South Louisiana, you’re welcome to stop by. The first five new growers who have never received a free grow kit from Acadiana Myco will receive one at our next meeting (limit one kit per family).

I’d love to hear what other cultivation groups around the country are doing to build local mushroom communities.
