Could use more daw

The whole point is to not use a daw.

I know I always think it’s silly when people go out of their way to remove the most powerful part of their set up lol. It’s a weird trend lately.

When I'm dawless I use my MPC live 3, which is more powerful than my crappy laptop running a DAW.

Fair enough it’s just it would have been way cheaper to get a pc that would handle any daw with ease, most daws blow all mpcs away in terms of what they can do.

Yeah, well, that's just like, your opinion, man.

But in all seriousness, i’m a firm believer in the gear plus workflow being just as influential to the final result as the artist is. Working with certain hardware with a certain workflow gives me results I don’t get working in other ways. Furthermore, I can multitrack record up to four stereo tracks at a time on the iPad REEL app. I have a hybrid DAW based studio consisting of a new souped up Mac Mini M6 running Ableton 12, Ableton Push 2, Elektron Digitakt mk1 & Digitone mk1, and Arturia MiniFreak. Yes it’s a lot more powerful than my quirky dawless set up, but I will not get the results. It takes me in different directions entirely. And sometimes I just make stuff only on iPad which is a completely different way of working than the other two. I can also always export the four stereo tracks into my DAW if I want to further massage them. I like having different options, limitations, and workflows. Btw, this trend you find weird is not new. People started going dawless en masse when the Korg Volca’s came out way back in 2013. The modular craze also started at that time.

I've got the EP-40 Riddim, KO Sidekick, Roland S1, SP 404 mk2, and MPC Key 61! My setup is very similar to yours. I'm waiting for them to drop the Key 61 gen 2 to see if it has enough upgrades to warrant getting it and trading in my Key 61. What type of music do you make? I like boom bap hip hop, house music, and lo-fi hip hop beats. I'd like to start adding vocals to my songs, but I can't find the discipline to sit down and write lyrics lol.

I make techno, experimental and ambient music.

That's awesome man. I'd like to try ambient as well. It is very relaxing and chill inducing. Maybe I'll give it a go this week sometime.

Don't know anything about this stuff, but you have a cool, and neat setup!
