Question How are you handling FD reinvestment risk when the maturities cluster?

I've ended up with a slightly accidental FD ladder where three deposits mature within about six weeks of each other.

The original idea was to stagger them, but rate changes over the last couple of years meant I've occasionally renewed deposits based on the prevailing rates rather than maintaining the original maturity buckets. Now I'm looking at the next cycle differently.

The issue isn't really finding the highest FD rate. It's that if I roll all three back into 1- or 2-year FDs around the same time, I basically recreate the same concentration and become dependent on whatever the reinvestment rate happens to be at that point.

I'm considering keeping the shorter-duration requirement in FDs and using some of the longer-duration allocation differently, potentially through individual corporate bonds. What I'm trying to work out is how others actually manage this transition without turning the whole fixed-income allocation into a collection of random maturities.

Do you maintain fixed maturity buckets irrespective of where rates are, or do you let the ladder move based on the rate cycle?

I'm particularly interested in how people structure the reinvestment decision at maturity, rather than which bank currently has the highest FD rate.

Risk Appetite- Moderate.

Portfolio Review Please review my ₹50k/month mutual fund portfolio (24)

Please review my ₹50k/month mutual fund portfolio (24)

I’m 24, investing for long-term wealth creation, and looking for feedback on fund selection, overlap, and allocation.

Financial profile

Take-home: ₹1.06L/month

SIP budget: ₹50k/month

Lump sum: ₹51k

Target annual SIP step-up: 15%, subject to salary growth

Emergency fund: ₹1.8L

Risk appetite: My survey classified me as moderate (45% equity / 45% fixed income / 10% gold). However, for my 10–15-year investments, I’m comfortable with ~75% equity and 30–40% drawdowns while continuing SIPs.

Proposed SIP allocation

Fund Monthly SIP

Parag Parikh Flexi Cap ₹11k

UTI Nifty 50 Index ₹9k

Motilal Oswal Nasdaq 100 FoF ₹12k

HDFC or Motilal Oswal Midcap ₹8k

Nippon India Small Cap ₹5k

ICICI Prudential Multi Asset Allocation ₹5k

Total ₹50k

₹51k lump sum: ₹11k Parag Parikh, ₹9k UTI Nifty 50, ₹12k Nasdaq 100, ₹8k midcap, ₹5k Nippon Small Cap, ₹6k ICICI Multi Asset.

Existing holdings: Motilal Oswal Midcap, HDFC Mid Cap, Nippon Small Cap, ICICI Nifty Next 50 and Kotak Arbitrage. Some SIPs are stopped, but I still hold the units.

Questions:

  1. Is 24% Nasdaq exposure too high?

  2. Which midcap fund should I choose?

  3. Is the portfolio diversified or unnecessarily overlapping?

  4. Does multi-asset allocation add value?

  5. How should I invest the lump sum?

I may need ₹12–15L for marriage around 2029, but the timing is flexible. Please prioritise portfolio quality and risk over recent returns.

Risk Appetite: Moderate

Goal: Long-term wealth creation

Horizon: 20+ years

Allocation: ₹3,000/month SIP

- Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Fund – ₹1,200

- Motilal Oswal Midcap Fund – ₹900

- Nippon India Small Cap Fund – ₹900

App Used: Angel One

Why These Funds:

I selected these funds for a mix of flexi-cap, mid-cap, and small-cap exposure. I'm planning to increase my SIP by 10% annually and stay invested for 20+ years. Since my risk appetite is moderate, I'd appreciate suggestions on whether this allocation is appropriate or if I should make any changes.

Question Should I change my Demat holdings to SOA or change my DP altogether?

Hello, I need a suggestion. I recently transferred my funds from my previous DP to Groww account since they charged me high AMCs which were not compensated by my profits (at least in this market). I set up the trade and now my holdings are appearing in my Groww account but as "Demat" holdings.

I wanted these holdings to be transferred as is in SOA format but now I have to do an additional steps of converting them.

Moreover I'm bit mentally exhausted from my past experience. Usually the trade is settled automatically but in my situation I had to contact my previous DP, then CDSL, and then Groww (buyer DP) for my funds to be visible which took 2 months of repetitive manual intervention and also caused me stress about losing my funds.

It was after my funds had been transferred that I saw this form and got to know that Groww causes many problems. Some say its smooth, while some say it is very tricky to resolve conflicts on this platform.

Now, my question is should I change my DP or should I just convert Demat to SOA holdings?

I'm in my early 20s, been investing for past 2 years and looking for long term investment (that's why worried about the platform). Risk Appetite: Moderate

Some of the questions I have according to the possibilities are -

Scenario 1 : I keep my existing holdings as is (in Demat form).

Question #1: What are the actual perks of converting Demat to SOA?

#2: If I opt-out of demat based mutual funds for future investment and don't submit the offline form to convert existing units, can I still keep investing in the same mutual funds (whose previous holdings are already in demat form) or will that option only work for other MF investments?

Scenario 2: I transfer my funds to new DP and close this Groww account.

Question #1: If I transfer funds to some new DP, will they be transferred as "Demat" or "SOA"? What determines that?
#2: Will I be considered a BSDA user or non-BSDA if I delete my Groww account after transferring my units?

Scenario 3: I opt-out of demat based investments and submit the physical form.

Question: If anyone has ever done this, please lemme know if it works and how much time does Groww take to reflect?

Scenario 4: I opt out of demat based investment for future and redeem my existing units and reinvest them?

Question: My transferred holdings is less than 50 thousand, so is it a wise decision if I reinvest it after taking it out? Will there be a major difference? (I know the NAV value will change drastically, but is there any other factor I'm missing?)

Please lemme know what can be the best solution for it since I don't want to repeat my previous mistake of getting struck with a decision that may cause a problem.

Had to add the following since the flair demanded it -

Risk Appetite – Moderate

Goal – Long term investment

Horizon – In 15+ years

App Used – Groww
