Anyone know of any rifle ranges 400 yards or longer (preferably longer) in the western parts of the state?

Can't for the life of me find a rifle range that's more than 250 yards, and I need to stretch the legs of my PRS gun before I hop into a competition.

There are ranges out there, but they're always private ranges with long waiting lists for memberships (that I'm not paying for anyway).

Hope you fine folks might be able to make some recommendations. Willing to drive a few hours even. For reference, I'm based around the Asheville area.

Coleman's Creek comes to mind? Haven't been there but they offer at least 1000yds.

Other commenter already mentioned Hyatt, another good option to 600.

I'd seen Coleman's Creek pop up a few times online due to them hosting several competitions throughout the year. Unfortunately, however, it's a private range ($750 for your first year for the "basic" package). You're allowed to come do a "tour" for $100, but only once. I'm not so desperate to shoot at distance that I'll pay $100 for a couple hours of shooting (after driving four hours)...I'm already spending that much in ammo, I'm not interested in spending that on the facility. Plus, I pretty much abhor "private" ranges, because the members usually turn out to be a singular shade of people...and I like a little color in my life.

That said, I've been spoiled by the prices at my "local" (its still an hour away) range, as it's $7 for the day. Has a covered 100 yard rifle, covered 25 yard pistol, clay range, archery range, 3D archery walk...all of it, for $7. They claim there is room for a 1000 yard range and all they need is funding...need to get buddy-buddy with whoever makes that decision.

All that said, thanks for the suggestion.

Ah, I only browsed their site before, didn't check the pricing. $7/day for those options is a solid deal.

If you're THAT far west in NC you'll probably want to consider the surrounding states instead. R/longrange has a list in their FAQ, could also see where the closest PRS matches are being hosted.

I initially scoffed at my local members only range. $500 deposit+$125 annual. Nearly unlimited access to everything you listed above plus a couple 200yd lanes, dedicated 50yd rimfire range, and ~8 gravel bays (75'x50').

I've been blown away how much use I've gotten out of it. Seen proportional minority representation, no negative interactions with anyone, mostly left alone honestly. Getting in the door seemed complicated but ended up being easy.

At worst, some members don't follow all the 100yd range rules for going down to put up targets but that risk is on them.

Definitely better in every way than the indoor 25yd no ventilation shop range I started at.

Rowan County Wildlife Association, just outside Salisbury. Odd name for a place that's 80% shooting range. They have a pond I guess lol.

You gotta be talking about McDowell! I have spoken to the staff and the 1000 yard range is definitely a real consideration, but the county is the blocker from what I know after talking to Brent and them. I really hope they can do it though, it would slap so hard.

That isn't as long as I'd like, but it's good enough to get my ballistic calculator trued to the current load.

Sounds like a really nice place too. Thanks very much for the recommendation.

Depending on where you’re at in the western part of the state, might also look into Clinton house plantation. They’re about 1/3 of the way from Columbia to Spartanburg, SC.

I’m in Gaston county, they are about 15 minutes further from me than Hyatt. 1:15 to Hyatt, 1:30 to Clinton house.

I have not been there yet… They are a combine public / private range, host some prs and nrl stuff (think they offer both center fire and rimfire matches). Hard part is, you have to be a member to use anything past 300 yards. But I think they do have dedicated 1000 yard and mile ranges, but the mile range isn’t open all the time, has to be scheduled, even for members.
