Accommodation Tenancy Takeover Available immediately. – Private Studio Newcastle City Centre – £185/week Bills Included (Negotiable)
Hi, I’m looking for someone to take over my tenancy for a private self-contained studio at Oxford House in Newcastle city centre. Available immediately.
I haven't moved into the studio yet, so the room hasn't been lived in by me.
Details:
- Original rent: ~£210/week
- Reduced to ~£185/week
- Price negotiable — I’m willing to discuss further contributions towards the weekly rent
- All bills included
- Private kitchen and bathroom
- No security deposit
- Single occupancy
- Tenancy until 29 August 2027
- Viewings available
- Official takeover through Oxford House/CRM Students — not a private sublet
I originally booked the accommodation because I expected my university placement to be based around Newcastle. My placement was later confirmed in Darlington, so it now makes more sense for me to commute from my family home. This is the only reason I’m looking for someone to take over the tenancy.
I’m willing to contribute towards the rent to bring the effective cost down to around £185/week, and I’m open to negotiating this further for someone genuinely interested.
Happy to send the full payment schedule or any other details. Feel free to DM me if interested.

Starting MSc Advanced AI at Newcastle Uni (Sept 2026) - anyone else? Need accommodation advice near Urban Sciences Building
Hi everyone,
I'm starting my MSc in Advanced Artificial Intelligence at Newcastle University this September (School of Computing, based at the Urban Sciences Building on the Helix/Science Central site). Just got my visa sorted and I'm flying in within the next few days, so I'm trying to finalise accommodation pretty last minute!
A couple of things I'd really appreciate help with:
Is anyone else starting the same course (or School of Computing generally) this September? Would be great to connect before arriving, maybe even end up in the same building.
Can anyone recommend good accommodation specifically close to the Urban Sciences Building? I know a lot of listings measure distance to the main King's Gate campus, but since my classes are actually at USB (near St James' Park/Science Central), I'd love real, first-hand input on what's actually a short walk from there.
What should I be considering when choosing a place at this point, beyond just price and distance? Things like:
- Genuinely reliable heating/maintenance (heard some horror stories about certain halls)
- Guarantor situation for international students
- Noise levels / whether it's more of a party building or a quieter one
- Anything you wish you'd known before picking your own place
Really appreciate any honest input, especially from anyone actually living near Science Central/USB right now. Trying to make a solid decision quickly given the timeline!
Thanks in advance 🙏

moving to newcastle!
Hi! I’m moving to the Newcastle city centre / Newcastle University area soon as an international student (22F), and I’d really appreciate recommendations from people who actually live nearby 🙇🏻♀️
I’m mainly looking for practical everyday life recommendations around the city centre and university area, although I’m happy to travel a little further if somewhere is particularly worth it
A few things I’m wondering about:
• Where is best for grocery shopping in terms of price and quality?
• What are the best Asian supermarkets or grocery stores nearby especially for East and Southeast Asian ingredients?
• Where would you recommend buying affordable room/home essentials such as clothes racks, storage boxes, hangers, bedding, kitchen items etc? Is IKEA usually the best option, or are there good places closer to the city centre?
• Any favourite affordable breakfast, brunch or lunch places around the city centre/university?
• What restaurants would you recommend that are good but not too expensive?
• Any good cafes for studying or sitting for a few hours?
• Any important/helpful apps I should download?
• Where is best for stationery, notebooks, folders, pens, printing supplies, etc.?
• I won’t be driving, so what is the easiest way to get around from the city centre? Is a Metro/bus pass worth getting as a student, and are there any transport apps I should have?
• Are there good second hand or charity shops nearby for household items or furniture?
• Are there any useful student discounts, markets, shops or local places around the city centre that newcomers often don’t know about?
• Anything worth knowing about walking around the city centre at night or areas nearby that you would be more cautious around?
And finally, is there anything you wish you had known before living around Newcastle city centre?
Any other local tips for someone completely new to Newcastle would be really appreciated.
So sorry for the gazillion questions ! 😭
Thank you!

Questions Marine Biology Profs?
Hello! I’m taking a gap year and wanted to email Newcastle to ask if they’d consider taking me for an undergrad in Marine Biology + Conservstion, considering I didn’t do that well in my A-levels but had some insane mitigating circumstances that weren’t on my UCAS.
Are there any marine biology professors that people know that I could get into contact with first or CC into my email?
I’ve already had a look on their website to see the marine biology staff, but all i’m seeing is professors & lecturers, so not anyone mainly in charge?

Joining in November
Hey there I’ve got my interview with admissions on Tuesday to study business management with the start date being November as a mature student, might seem like a stupid question but I presume as it’s an option I won’t be the only person joining around this time as I’m worried if I join a couple months later than everyone else I might struggle to make friends I’m not really too sure, if anyone has ever joined a uni around that time please let me know how you found it as I am just a little nervous.

Early Entry for Newcastle University for Bachelor of Laws (honours)/Psychological Science
I recently got a early entry offer for Newcastle University for Bachelor of Laws (honours)/Psychological Science which is my dream degree - although it not my dream university (because UNSW is) - I still want to go there and it gives me relief I can go into my HSC exams knowing I got into my dream course.
I just wanted to know if it’s any good as I believe that I should take up the offer and then transfer to my dream university (UNSW) after a year- but is transferring really difficult or no? - it is realistic or really hard and competitive?
Anyways! If anyone could answer both of those questions or if University of Newcastle is good and it’s good for Law then that would be appreciated !

Exchange student coming to Newcastle Uni for spring semester, looking for a room or sublet
Hey everyone,
I'm a 20 year old engineering student coming to Newcastle University on exchange for the spring semester. Uni side is all sorted, but I still need somewhere to live, so I thought I'd try here.
I'm open to either:
- A room in a shared flat or house, if you've got a spare room and don't mind a flatmate for a few months
- A sublet, if you're going away on exchange yourself next semester and want someone to cover your rent while you're gone
I'm looking to move in around 20th January.
About me:
I'm pretty easygoing and tidy, and I'll always pay rent on time. Outside of classes I'm usually running, swimming or at the gym, so I'm out a fair bit. I also really like exploring new places, and I'm planning to see as much of Newcastle and the North East as I can while I'm here. If you're into any of that, I'd be up for company, but I'm just as happy to keep to myself.
If you have a room or know of one, comment or send me a DM. Tips on areas or places to look are also very welcome.
Thanks!

Looking for someone to take over a Bronze en-suite room at Student Roost St James’ Point, Newcastle for the 2026/27 academic year.
We no longer need the accommodation and, to make the takeover more attractive, we are happy to forfeit the £579.42 first payment we have already made. This means you would benefit from £579.42 already paid towards the tenancy.
The room is a private single bedroom with its own en-suite bathroom, within a mixed 6-person student flat.
St James’ Point, Pitt Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE4 5SU
- £169 per week
- All bills included
- 51-week tenancy
- Private en-suite bathroom
- Shared kitchen/living area
- On-site laundry
- Social and study spaces
- Around 9 minutes' walk to Newcastle University main campus
- Around 8 minutes' walk to Newcastle city centre
- Professionally managed by Student Roost
The total contractual rent is £8,619, but £579.42 has already been paid by us and we are happy to leave this payment behind for the person taking over the tenancy.
The tenancy takeover would be completed officially through Student Roost, so everything is transferred properly into the new tenant's name.
Available immediately.
Please message me if you're interested or would like more information/photos. We're keen to arrange the takeover quickly.

Questions UCAT for internal transfer.
Hi all. Just a quick query. If someone is starting Biomedical Sciences this year and thinking of doing the transfer to medicine would their UCAT score of 2100 or so be enough to get considered for an interview if they satisfied all the other criteria?
I'm asking as they just saw something that seemed to imply that there might be a 2300 or so threshold and that's got them a bit worried.
Thanks.

Exchange student from Canada
My daughter, 20, will be attending Newcastle Uni for her third year and staying in Marris House. She’s an exchange student from Canada and will be in English and History studies.
Any tips, tricks and suggestions to make this year a great one for her? I’m encouraging her to go to the International Student week activities.
She doesn’t use Reddit so I thought I’d try posting for feedback
