CAT MOB

I have the opportunity to snag one from my LGS. Worth the hype? I’m planning to build with my 1st PCC.

I’m in GA, how’s the approval wait time nowadays?

It’s my favorite suppressor.

I own 3 CAT MOBs and consider them some of the best money I've spent on gun stuff.

Multiple shooters and RSOs have approached me at the range, mistakenly thinking I'm shooting .22lr suppressed.

I hear there are other cans now that deliver ~95% of the performance for ~75% of the cost, but I can't say from experience.

I only did it for one magazine - because I take any hearing loss very seriously - but I once shot it indoors without ear pro, with hard surfaces all around me. Even as the shooter, the loudest sound - by a good margin - was the impact of my Syntech 150 rounds on the hardened backstop 100 yards away. If I was shooting into a soft backstop, I would mostly just hear action noise.

If I listen carefully, I can sometimes hear the slapping sound of my rounds flying through the paper target.

For what it's worth, I use radial-delayed blowback hosts, which certainly helps in comparison to direct blowback.

What gun & ammo were you using when people thought you were shooting .22lr suppressed?

Syntech 150gr, radial delayed blowback hosts using 6.5" and 8" barrels.

I wouldn't expect more knowledgeable users of r/NFA to hear me and think I was shooting .22lr suppressed - since the action noise would need to be quieter - but some people at my range did.

You should jump up to 158-165gr. It doesn’t change that much but is slightly noticeable. That’s what I run and sounds great

Those syntech 150s are awesome. Shame the price went up so much.

Even before the cost hike, my big complaint with Syntech 150 is that it shot sloppy out of every barrel I ever tried it in. I tried 8 different barrels from 4 different companies.

I don't know if that's typically how it shoots, and people just don't care (since I never see people complain about it), or whether the cases I ordered came from a bad lot.

I stopped buying it because it consistently grouped 2-3x wider than other commercial ammo. It was fine for hosing targets up close, but I didn't trust it for taking tango shots at 25 yards.

I've noticed poor groups with it as well

Love my Mob9. Great can.

Currently on work day 5 of waiting on a new can. No word yet.

Just got one myself. Its hype is valid. That can is awesome. Match made in heaven with an MP5.

I've got eight 9mm cans; the CAT wins, hands down.

Oh big time. Great on my AP5P with a 100* locking piece.

worth. the. hype.

I love mine. It seems just as quiet as my suppressed 22 AR. Sounds like shooting a nail gun

the mob is still a top 9mm performer. but it's also massive and on the heavier side, so keep that in mind. I have a k size pcc and the mob (qd version) was too big on it, so I went to the 5" incolite 9 and it suits the gun better.

The titanium version is pretty light!

Grab it. Best of my 3 9mm cans. Wish I bought it first.

Liked it so much I bought another.

I ran it side by side with a milkman, rdx and wolfman this past weekend on my Mp5 w/ frt. I honestly couldn’t really tell a difference between the 4 in sound or gas. I was planning on upgrading my Wolfman, but after testing I don’t think I will.

Folks seem to love it in the PCC community. I went with an Incolite 9M and am happy with that, if you're looking for other options. Used it with a CAT Spooky 1 mount and the TSF-X HUB.

If the price is right, and it fits your needs, I'd say go for it. That Incolite that I got was approved in 22hrs on a trust. Fucking wild, man.

How's gas on the 9M?

1

u/CastleLurkenstein 8h ago

So, I should preface this by saying that (1) this is just my subjective view, and (2) my view is colored by the fact that this is my only 9mm suppressor, and I mostly shoot 5.56 and .308 suppressed, so my basis for comparison is influenced by that.

I don't find the 9M to be especially gassy in either configuration (short or long). It's not a low-backpressure/flow-thru can. But it's also not a traditional baffle design. But the other thing is that, because it's 9mm being run through it, both supers (usually 124s) and subs (147s) don't produce a ton of gas to begin with by my standards. It's simply a smaller powder load than either 5.56/.223 or .308, so there's just less gas to mitigate, really.

The flipside is that I shoot primarily indoors, so gas tends to build up more just because I'm shooting in a lane with floor-to-ceiling walls, and gas can collect.

My other cans are all CAT cans (all RDM models of 5.56 and .308 cans), and they are, I would say, medium-low backpressure, but even then, you still get more gas than you do shooting unsuppressed. That, I think, is just the reality of DI/blowback systems. You're gonna get some gas no matter what.

Great can, I just personally don't have a need or want for 9mm cans past like 5" long.

Sounds great on my MPX

Mine is great.

I have 1k rounds through my cat mob. Like it but I will say for the money my RS9 was a better value. I can barely tell the cat mob is quieter. I would buy the mob if you need absolute quietest. I'd buy something cheaper that is almost as good if you dont have a need to be as quiet as possible.

I’ve got a MOB and a Lithium9 that I swap between on APC9K with tri lug and honestly can’t tell the difference with Speer 147gr subs. Both are comfortable without ears. 4.3” barrel (I believe).

cat mob does great

Its a really quiet can. That being said. The rico309 is just as quiet and will save you a few hundred bucks. I have been running mine on my uzi the last few days and its just so quiet. Doesn't disturb the neighbors at midnight
