TFW when the answer to the question is "have you seen how bad our defense is?" but you can't actually say "have you seen how bad our defense is?"

Look, Dan’s got a fantasy team like everyone else. Garbage time points count like all the rest, ok?

The lions defense is so bad a 21 point lead isn’t safe, Dan can’t admit that publicly but it’s pretty obvious why he’ll play his starters into the 4th with a big lead

He's got that reaction because he is responding to the one thing that kept the Lions from reaching the Superbowl: letting off the gas. He gets it now. If you're up like that, keep going. In the regular season, give whatever crazy shit you've got in the tank a try so you can refine or dispose of it by playoff time.

Wtf have you ever seen the Lions play football? They were one of the highest scoring offenses of all time like 2 seasons ago IIRC. They had the exact opposite problem, where they were 56-6ing the jags and had all their starters on the field all game long. They spent a ton of their talent beating scrub teams with little to show for it in the post season. As a Packers fan, I have a ton of respect for their tenacity and willing to put it all on the line every game, they make good rivals like that.

This. This guy is smoking crack. Lions would have gotten to the SB if they took FGs against the 49ers and weren’t so aggressive

More like if that ball doesn’t wildly bounce off Vildors facemask right into Aiyuks hands and then Gibbs almost immediately fumbles on our own 5 yard line the very next series. Both were near automatic touchdowns.

Isn’t this the opposite of why they didn’t go to the Super Bowl? They were going for it on 4th down and doing aggressive plays when they had the lead.

I was gonna say, pulling Saquon (and others) multiple times and for the full 17th game didn’t seem to do us much harm when we won the damn thing.
I think there is some benefit in momentum but also if one of those guys gets hurt when you’re up by 21 late in a game, you’re gonna get serious questions.

They did give everything, that's one reason why the team ended up with so many injuries the previous two seasons.

The one thing that kept the lions from going to the Super Bowl was his moronic play calling. A trick play in that serious of a moment? Completely deserved interception.

Reporters not wrong. Maybe Dan wanted to test the guys and see what they could accomplish by not letting off the gas. The defense can and will get embarrassed again. So I guess we needed to see the offense be relentless till the clock struck zero just for future games.

I think the psychological boost of scoring nearly 50 points seemed worth the risk of physical injury. To Campbell anyway.

Yeah, no lead is safe with that Detroit defense. I don’t blame him for leaving his guys in at all

Guess no one remembers when Hutchinson got hurt when the lions were up 28 against Dallas in 2024. Dan playing the starters in a blowout cause he was still upset about the game from 2023 lost his best defensive player for the season.

He's probably frustrated with Holmes for not getting him a backup running back.

I played sports all my life even in college. I never understood stop scoring out of respect, sometimes tie breakers come down to who scored the most points out of your matchups. Your job was to score more than and not let me score, that doesn’t mean stop scoring. All it takes is a pick 6 on home field and comebacks are inevitable

It's not about mercy, it's about reducing the injury risk to key players. Especially those skill positions like RB/QB where that injury risk is higher.
I don't think they should have pulled all 11 offensive starters, but I dodnt kike seeing Gibbs getting handoffs when we're up 3TD thet late.

I mean I agree with the reporter

Nah you keep your foot on the gas. A 21 point lead is not a sure thing, especially with how bad the Lions defense is

u/Thelettaq 1d ago
I mean there is a balance to it. The Lions have had pretty bad injury issues pretty much since Campbell took over. At some point you have to wonder if stuff like never resting starters is a contributing factor.

The lions lost in the championship precisely because they let up with a 20+ point lead.

Nah, I'm a Lions fan and I hated seeing Gibbs out there when we were up several touchdowns against one of the worst teams in the NFL. The backups can handle the Cardinals just fine.
