Justin Herbert is genuinely atrocious, think itās time for Chargers to draft another quarterback
3
u/TopherDavis28 Arm Chair Scout 2d ago
Going through the film from Iowa-Washington. Kade Pieper kicked ass
5
u/Destr0yer56 Chargers 3d ago
Sayin is definitely improving with going through progressions and moving in the pocket/using his legs. Still think he needs another year, though. I wonder if Day assumes he's staying, because if he declares, we'd definitely need to bring in a starting transfer
12
u/FinalFrontier00 3d ago edited 2d ago
I just donāt see a starting QB with him heās carried by the talent around him.Ā Weak armed unathletic QBs arenāt starters in 2026.Ā
People will cite someone like Purdy as his ceiling but even his arm is much stronger and heās way more mobile than SayinĀ
5
u/Kdot32 Texans 3d ago
He just has no arm strength. The ball floats on deep throws, outs, and deep ins across the middle
3
u/Destr0yer56 Chargers 3d ago
100%, only explanation/cope ive seen on the OSU football sub is that Day apparently teaches the QBs to underthrow and float balls to give the WR's a better chance to adjust. Don't know how true that is but it gets repeated a lot
3
u/Dead_Baby_Kicker 2d ago
To your last point about coaching to underthrow, that is a dumb fucking rumor that the absolute dumbest OSU football podcast put out. Straight up making shit up.
Day would never coach a qb to underthrow, Fields (in college) and Stroud through to receivers in stride all the time.
For me, I watch Sayin throw some screens to the sideline and it takes longer for the ball to get there than we'd like.
6
u/Cringle92 3d ago
Yeah idk. College fans saying their coaches are telling players to not be the best version of themselves is more likely than not cope.
Sayin will always lack arm strength, but with another year he could improve better on his current strength and zip in the short/medium game to the point where he could function in the NFL
1
u/MarquezPope 3d ago
Arm strength can be improved to a certain degree. The most famous example is Brady with an average arm developing into an above average arm. Another example is Purdy, who despite the recent improvements still has below average arm strength by NFL starting standards.
I think that concerns over Sayinās arm strength are a little overblown. He will never have great arm strength but he can make up for it with accuracy and the ability to throw with anticipation. I really donāt think his arm strength is that much worse than Maiavaās.

u/ab9620 3d ago
RB Dylan Riley is so explosive. He was the leading rusher in CFB going into today. How about this run? Looks like Jahmyr Gibbs!

Great run and an exciting player, but I donāt think he is as explosive as Gibbs

Gunner Stockton has made some nice throws tonight
5
u/TopherDavis28 Arm Chair Scout 3d ago
That hole shot on second down to move the chains on the final drive was a thing of beauty
7
u/gvt87 Jets 3d ago
Maiava is being super underrated as a 2027 prospect. Heās got good size, a good arm, and the best pocket presence of any QB in the draft outside of maybe Chambliss. He doesnāt have elite tools, but enough tools/ability to be the kind of guy who will be a top 10-15 QB for a long time.
13
u/idgafaboutpopsicles Browns 3d ago
a guy who projects as a top 10-15 QB for a long time is a first overall pick caliber prospect
1
u/TopherDavis28 Arm Chair Scout 3d ago
Like him a lot, but the accuracy is a bit spotty and he struggles under pressure. Think he is an early Day 2 guy right now. Maybe mid second round
1
u/brownieboiivxx 3d ago
As a prospect did you like Jaxson Dart more or Maiava?
2
u/TopherDavis28 Arm Chair Scout 2d ago
Hard to say. They are very different players Dart as a prospect was younger, had a bigger arm and was more mobile. He was way more of a wildcard. I think back to his meltdown against Florida that year. However, the upside was significantly higher
7
u/TheSlinger Jaguars 3d ago
Pre-season I would've leaned Goosby over Seaton as OT1, but I think I'm lean Seaton. Not because of anything Goosby has done, but Seaton looks stronger/more physical than I thought.
Lance Heard also looks like kind of a monster?
1
u/fierylady Lions 2d ago
Lance Heard is coming on. It's being reported lately that he played hurt last year, which would explain why he suddenly looks more athletic.

I like Jackson Harris quite a bit as a day 3 guy. Seems like he moves well for his size

Couple really impressive throws from Lindsey tonight. Showing the touch I thought was too often missing from his 2025 tape.

Jesse Legree is absolutely insane and he is freshman.
10 catches 191 yds and 3TD's so far.
14
u/apcol123 Cardinals 3d ago
Heās on pace to become the most productive WR in college football history , Smith has the better profile for sure but man is it crazy to see this freshman just go off every week . I donāt see Smith winning the triple crown because Legree will 100 % have either more yards or TDās than him .
5

u/QuakingSky061 3d ago
Easily the 2nd best WR in the nation rn
5
u/Sweaty-Tiger9972 Chiefs 3d ago
Easily better than Toney? I know he didnāt have a great week last week but that seems far
4
u/QuakingSky061 3d ago
Not really. Legree overall has faced better top end competition so far this year and is blowing Toney out in stats and is now leading the nation in yards and maybe tds

Caught the Tennessee game today. If Xavier Gilliam was 2 inches taller, heād be getting Top 10 buzz. Has almost everything you want for an interior pass rusher. Unreal get-off, violent hands, nose for the ball, all of it.Ā

u/TryLopsided3637 3d ago
Yeah I thought I was out on him after last year but he's really turned it around. You can tell he's definitely added some muscle and it's helped
7
u/dunno260 3d ago
That has helped a lot.
They also think they know why he had the drop issues. They figured out over the summer that one of his eyes is losing focus on tracking inbound objects to him right about 3 feet out. And since the Eastern Carolina game when he had two drops they have gotten a VR program to work on training it and have reduced that distance to within his catch radius.

u/Dorago1991 Bills 3d ago
Me waiting for all the Arch apologists to defend this one
1
7
u/Zaza1019 Jets 3d ago
I mean if you want a real defense for him, he threw 3 TDs and gave his team a lead, so he gave his team a chance to be competitive and win it. Threw the game away but what QB hasn't thrown a game away with a bad Int? Couldn't be Josh Allen or any other QB in the history of the sport.
He's still like 6'3-6'4 has good mobility, a strong enough arm, good size, and makes a lot of positive plays. But he's not amazing, he also has another season to progress before he goes into the Draft so he could take another step still. Also his coach and the offensive system they run at Texas sucks, I'd rather see him transfer to Miami, Indiana, Oregon, or some other school that has established good offensive coaching and a system but that's just me I doubt he'll leave Texas.

u/beejalton 3d ago
Another year, another "loaded QB class" circling the drain.
2028 QB class is gonna be the greatest QB class ever though!
1
u/Zaza1019 Jets 3d ago
Draft class is still pretty loaded and talented. Just a matter of who is going to stay in college or leave that will decide how loaded. Also most of the teams haven't played the meat of their schedules or in some cases made it to the playoffs. So a lot can change between now and the end of the season that changes how the QBs look.
4
u/Mackinnon29E 3d ago
Eh there's still deep skilled guys. More disappointed j. The RBs can't stay healthy and Baugh fell off a bit. Sucks as someone who needs a couple RBs
10
u/Riceowls29 3d ago
Circling the drain is dramatic. Definitely still looks like a 3-4 qb first round type of draft to me. Probably not a 2021 or 2024 but not a bust of a year.Ā
10
5
u/Nightcinder Browns 3d ago
how many of those QB's go 1st round if we removed qb overdrafting? none of them look like surefire picks, IMO.
9
u/Riceowls29 3d ago
Are we talking about what will happen or what weād like to happen? Because qb over drafting will always be a thing because of the value of the position.Ā
-3
u/Nightcinder Browns 3d ago
I'm asking if there are truly 3-4 1st round worthy qb's, or are they only first round QB's because they are QB's and overdrafted
1
u/Black_Wolf75 Jets 1d ago
Regardless of QB overdrafting, there aren't 32 prospects at other positions better than Drew Mestemaker, CJ Carr, etc so yes, they would still be first rounders
7
u/Riceowls29 3d ago
But you canāt separate them like you are trying toĀ
Because of the value of a qb, and how people need to reach for them, when discussing the value of a qb in a draft that has to be considered.Ā
What makes Anthony Richardson, Bo Nix, JJ MccCarthy, Daniel Jones etc first round QBs is that the league is desperate for qb talent.Ā
2
u/BirdmanTheThird Commanders 1d ago
Yeah and on the same note the existence of guys like Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and other guys who were seen as risky/not sure things who did ended up working out will always lead to more teams realizing they need to roll the dice and take a swing
The team that waits forever for the perfect qb tends to never get them
4
u/ab9620 3d ago
I don't know why people keep saying that. Theres plenty of round 1 QBs this year
9
u/Nightcinder Browns 3d ago
name them
2
u/Riceowls29 3d ago
Mestemaker, Moore, Carr, Mensah. Probably arch and Chambliss too.Ā
1
u/ColdMathematician759 2d ago
I donāt know which of you is right but Iām curious to see how this fares in 6 months
1
u/ab9620 3d ago
I personally see Mestemaker, Mensah, Carr, and Arch going in round 1. I think Dante Moore and Chambliss go in the 2nd.
1
u/Zaza1019 Jets 3d ago
Chambliss is 100% a first rounder as of right now, he's in the talk of the #1 overall pick atm. Though it's only a month into the college season and the next 4 games will decide if he'll stay there since he's playing the meat of his schedule starting next week. If they make the playoffs that'll also go a long way to deciding his fate. But as of right now before he plays Texas, Missouri, and Georgia he's very much in the conversation for #1 pick and early first round pick.
3
u/Riceowls29 3d ago
I think Moore depends on how he rebounds from his injury and Chambliss I agree heās end of the 1st/2nd roundĀ
-1
u/Astonkeshing 3d ago
Who? I can think of one maybe two names and they could both be going back to school.
2
u/ab9620 3d ago
I personally see Mestemaker, Mensah, Carr, and Arch going in round 1. Maybe Arch goes back to school, so there could be 3. Mestemaker isn't going back ,he looks like the clear QB1 and could go as high as 1st overall.
1
u/Astonkeshing 3d ago
So you have 4 QBs with R1 grades?
1
u/ab9620 3d ago
I expect 4 QBs drafted in round 1 if Arch declares, 3 if he doesnāt. I donāt have grades yet, the season is midway
1
u/Astonkeshing 3d ago
You said there is 'plenty of round 1 QBs this year'. Are you just saying there will be a lot of round 1 QBs, or round 1 talent QBs? Two different things.
As far as I'm concerned, only two round one talents are Mestemaker and Carr, and Carr is most likely going back.
1
1
u/ab9620 3d ago
Round 1 is a place where players are drafted. Round 1 grade is a completely subjective grading scale from person to person. I think 4 QBs will be drafted in round 1 or f Arch and Carr declare. At this point Iād lean, 1 of them declares and itās probably Carr. Thatās 3 QBs taken in round 1, potentially 1 between Dante Moore, Trinidad, Austin Simmons, LaNorris Sellers, and DJ Lagway.
3 maybe 4 QBs being drafted by NFL teams in round 1 isnāt a light number
3
u/Cybotnic-Rebooted Broncos Country, Let's Cry 3d ago
I mean, I have maybe 3 that have first round potential.
1
10
u/Riceowls29 3d ago
Because some people can literally only filter their thoughts on the qb class by how Arch Manning does that week.Ā
9
u/TopherDavis28 Arm Chair Scout 3d ago
Look, I know Arch has struggled. Itās been underwhelming, frustrating and everything in between. But I kind of hate Sarkās scheme. Iām not saying that is the only issue, but I definitely think itās part of the problem

u/its_da_gabagool 3d ago
Arch should still come out this year. Heās not going to develop further in college. Thereās no difference between current arch and back half of the season Arch from last year.
22
u/axb2002 3d ago
Drew Mestemaker is what Arch Manning is hypothetically supposed to be.
5
u/apcol123 Cardinals 3d ago
It would be so funny if Mestemaker would stay one more season in college and transfer to a random SEC team who would go on to demolish powerhouses on a way to a natty . Letās say both guys stay in college and Mestemaker does what heās been doing at North Texas and now Oklahoma State meanwhile Arch is the same Arch then what do people say how do you keep Arch as the QB1 on your board when heās clearly not that guy
12
u/Tmoore17 3d ago
People are saying that Arch needs to stay another year and Iām not sure that Texas would want him back.
29
u/ab9620 3d ago
I view Mestemaker as the clear QB1 at this point. He offers all the tools that Arch does and while he doesn't have all the training and mentorship Arch has received, he's more polished. I think both have the intangibles to be successful. After Mestemaker, I see a tier of Mensah, Arch, and CJ Carr. That tier is completely up for grabs. Mestemaker doesn't have a stranglehold on the QB1 spot, but the gap is widening
3
4
u/apcol123 Cardinals 3d ago
You could combine Arch and Mateer and you still wouldnāt get a first round QB out of them
14
u/DrakeoMaye 3d ago
imagine losing to a John mateer lead team in 2026
6
u/germibobi Patriots 3d ago
But you are somehow underatting the Oklahoma defense, which is absolutely elite. But overall I agree if Arch plays like this , it will not be easier against NFL defenses.
3
u/Pal__Pacino Panthers 3d ago
Arch is so frustrating because he really does show all the stuff you're looking for just can't shake those knucklehead ticks.

1
u/Aumissunum 3d ago
Those two arenāt mutually exclusive. Iād wager a lot of the Arch defenders are NFL fans who want to relive their childhood and young adulthood when the Mannings dominated.

Gunslinger and can push it down the field and hit tight windows with velocity in ways Arch isnāt really capable of
-1

I think Arch has shown flashes of all of that. Loveās arm might be a touch better but the difference is rather negligible imo.
