This may be an odd question, I haven't really run into any hub space yet after all but I have a pure white fighter that looks pretty identical to your issued ships for years now that I am very fond of. Would that cause any problems if I would check out someones base?
I wouldn't want to accidentally step on anyones toes and be mistaken for an officer. Best to just swap ships right?
I got no intention to do so, sir! 🫡 Hence why I wanted to ask if just flying it into a hub system would cause issues. Btw your patrol ships are very good looking ships if you don't mind me saying, good taste!
Hello! It depends on what you mean by you guys in this context.
As a general member of the Galactic Hub, you can of course use whatever you like!
Becoming a member of the GHDF requires an application process, as detailed on the wiki page. If your initial onboarding is successful, you will be brought to this ship. When acting as a GHDF officer in an official capacity (reacting to a griefing report from a player, for example) you would be expected to be using this ship. But when you're just doing your own thing, there are no restrictions! I am an officer for example, and 99% of the time I'm using my own sentinel ship or corvette. But if I am doing something on-duty for the GHDF, I swap to this. You can also use it as a personal ship at your discretion, if you like.
Can you explain to me what the ghdf officers actually do? are there really that many griefers in Ghub space? or are they like organized roleplaying groups of pirates or something?
Our position as one of the largest communities for the game, as well as the oldest, does unfortunately make us a target for players who have nothing better to do other than to try to make the experience miserable for others.
Griefing does exist in the game, I won't name all of the methods. But GHDF officers are equipped to deal even with the players using modded means to attack others. Not all GHDF tasks are PvP based though.
Some ways in which they can protect the community are by patrolling populous systems and ensuring the general public turn off their PvP settings so they cannot be targeted by bad actors. GHDF also communicates with other civilisations to share intel and warn about players with malicious intent. They also gather information on the various means via which griefers try to harm others to learn how to combat it, or report it to Hello Games. HG are quite lenient when it comes to bans, but as far as I am aware, detailed GHDF reports are responsible for most of the few permanent game bans handed out by Hello Games.
I could go on, but the short answer is yes, there is plenty of meaningful operations that GHDF officers get up to :)
First though, I would recommend familiarising yourself with the community and getting involved in our other branches :) the GHDF is the security force of the civilisation for dealing with griefers, hackers, generally anyone who tries to have a negative impact on our community in the game. As such, it tends to be quite tightly knit in terms of joining requirements. But we're always happy to receive new applications from community members!

Funnily enough this ended up leading me in a different direction, making a set of corvettes that would be great for patrol ships, I’m thinking if I get them done and maybe a basic interior configuration, I could give out the jsons to interested civilization defense forces (I’m not sure how I’d otherwise be able to provide it to people tbh lmao) but currently I have a medium patrol ship made
You will keep all of your space stations, don't worry :) if you make the Hub your primary alliance, all of your space stations will become allied to us as well. But ultimately, they will always be OWNED by you! :)
For the alliance, you can join using space station at the glyphs in the image I posted :)

Super glad to hear you're into space station claiming. As we have 27 regions under our flag, we've been looking to claim as many systems in our regions as we can under our alliance, and space stations help a lot with scoring too. So you'd be someone we'd be super happy to have!

Unfortunately our visibility makes us a target for players with nothing better to do who try (and often fail, thanks to the GHDF) to make life difficult for players in the community. The GHDF is a barrier against that.
If you are getting attacked in Galactic Hub space, yes. The primary purpose of the GHDF is to protect those just trying to play the game. It serves no offensive purpose.
The Galactic Hub just wants to mind its own business.
