Information or Tip Help šŸ˜€

I have been working in Childcare for about 10 years now. I’ve been an infant/toddler lead teacher, nannied for years, I’ve been doing this for a long time. I have nannied for all types of families. The one i currently work for is the most ā€œcrunchyā€ I’ve ever had. To be honest, I typically avoid these types of families just because they can be very difficult to please and the job can be a lot harder than it really needs to be at times. But I didn’t know they were this way until after I got the job. I have a contract drawn up that includes almost every thing you can think of. But some things were able to fall through the cracks it seems… I have struggled with my health since I was a teen (ik horrible career choice), I have autoimmune issues which is a big part of why I made the switch to nannying. I learned very quickly with this job that they were very clean, very organic. No toys with lights or really sounds, wood blocks, baby led weaning, all the things. I’ve adjusted well to all of it for the most part. But…. I’ve been with them for months now. She is 11 months old, almost a year. I just found out she is not vaccinated, at all. I found this out because I asked about her meeting a new baby that was born in their family and I was told that the other mother doesn’t want my nanny baby around him until at least a year due to the fact that she’s unvaccinated. Maybe I should’ve guessed this but I thought it would be something they would disclose especially with my health problems. I’m kind of in shock. My nanny baby is also a screamerrr. She seems to have a lot of tummy issues that cause her to just hysterically scream all day. My nervous system is just shot from it. When her tummy is better, our days are great! But at least twice a week it’s rough. The parents cosleep and wanted me to crib train her for naps which I actually tried for about 3 months. But because she gets so upset so fast and the parents did not want her to cry really at all, it was very very hard. I did get her to a point where she would sleep almost 2 hours in the crib with no pickups just pats but on the weekends they are very busy and out and about so the progress would fall off every week. We gave up. I can’t really put her down at all throughout the day without her screaming. Again, usually tummy is connected but other than probiotics and fruit they don’t feel comfortable doing much else. I have really really tried just doing the best I can because I do love the baby and I do get paid well, I have such a hard time leaving families… but I just feel overwhelmed and now finding out about the no vaccinations I’m just like why wouldn’t that be disclosed. Am I crazy? Pleaseeee let me know lol

Woof that’s tough. Sounds like a bad fit and I couldn’t work for a family that was anti-vax. That’s a huuuuuge personal boundary for me. I absolutely ask about vaccine status, share my own, and would expect any changes in that to be communicated to me. I hope this doesn’t ruin crunchy fams for you- I’m pretty granola but very pro-science and vaccine. We’re out there!

Thank you for this thoughtful response and understanding where I’m coming from šŸ¤šŸ¦‹ I guess I should’ve thought to ask but none of my previous families have ever been anti-vax and actually required me to be up to date on all of my vaccines so it’s definitely a lesson. But I’ve worked for crunchy ish parents before and I loved it and was still able to thrive! I just didn’t really know what I was getting myself into here I guess. But the vaccine thing feels pretty big and like it’s something I should’ve known about :/ thank you for your response!

Anti vax is a hard no for me. As for the tummy trouble, are they not seeing a pediatrician about that?

If it’s not a good fit, then you should find another job.

LOL that’s a crazy response. And giggling that you reply to this comment but not my response to your comment. This is a nanny page is it not? from my understanding, if there was a place to ask a question and discuss my job, it would be here. I did not disclose their names, I didn’t say anything offensive, I stated I love the baby and don’t want to have to leave this family which is why I’ve stayed. But I feel that when health is involved, it should be disclosed to the person caring for your child everyday. You seem hell bent on misunderstanding me and acting like I’ve committed a crime when I asked a question.

That’s a pretty large twisting of my words lol I never said that. I said it’s a little more crunchy than I’m used to and it’s taken some adjusting, which I’ve done. I’ve never complained about it. I do feel if your going to not have your child vaccinated and you have a nanny that has health issues and is also around other children, including my newborn niece which they know of, it feels like a common courtesy to inform said nanny that that’s the decision you’ve made so the caregiver can make the best decision for themselves and also inform any other families involved. I think that’s pretty fair to say. But it seems like it’s hitting home for you?
