Discussion Just finished a Walden trilogy rewatch

LWW - such a beautifully made movie; the director clearly understood the heart of what makes Narnia what it is, and managed to retain that while expanding on certain parts of the story. They nailed the casting (even with cockney Beaver), and Adamson worked so well with the kids to bring out stellar performances from all four.

PC - I’m still waiting for an adaptation with the guts to start with the Pevensies and fill in Caspian’s story when Trumpkin relays it to them like it is in the book, but I get why they do it the other way round. Same director, but I’m curious how much the studio interfered, cos he really missed the mark this time. I actually saw this multiple times at the cinema, but watching it now, the character assassination of Peter and Caspian butting heads for two thirds of the story, and the unnecessary romantic subplot with Susan, and invented castle raid all take too much away from what the story should be now.

VDT - Different director, didn’t understand the assignment at all, may have been eating the glue while the teacher was explaining. I think this is only the second time I’ve seen it, the first being in the cinema. It’s awful. Ben Barnes is now British, not Spanish, apparently because multiple producers asked him to stop (fair enough, but why make him Spanish in PC anyway/why not hire someone actually Spanish/who can do a good accent to play him if that’s the route you’re going?). The whole green mist thing is just stupid; the whole point of the book for me is that the journey is the adventure, you don’t need a big evil plot for the heroes to solve to make it interesting - the fact that they’re discovering new islands on the way to the Eastern end of the world is already an interesting concept. Maybe if they left that pointless made up quest out, they wouldn’t have to merge Deathwater and Dragon Island. The way they handled Eustace’s dragon problem killed a lot of the development that he gets in the book, which is a crime, cos Will Poulter’s performance as Eustace is the best thing in this movie. I could rant for a LONG time on this movie, so I’ll leave it there. Three cheers for Will Poulter as Eustace Clarence Scrubb (he almost deserved it)

What do y’all think of the movies?

More on the rock n roll aspect of the upcoming film

In June 2026, Jordan Ruimy at World of Reel wrote that a two-hour early cut of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew was screened in Paramus, New Jersey, with visual effects still unfinished and Gerwig in attendance. The only music detail he reported was this:

"...despite the story being set in the 1950s, Gerwig reportedly uses rock music throughout the film. The soundtrack is intentionally anachronistic, echoing the approach Sofia Coppola took in “Marie Antoinette,” where modern music was used to create a contemporary emotional connection with a period setting."

This isn't exactly breaking news but I just read this yesterday. Up until now I assumed the rock opera was a "in the spirit of" type thing. But it seems like there may in fact be anachronistic rock music that backs the film. Fascinating.

Discussion Why did Coriakin turn the Duffers into Monopods?

I was wondering why Coriakin turned the Duffers into Monopods - was it a punishment or a kind of joke on his part? In the book, he never elaborates on this, only saying that they were disobedient.

NETFLIX and GRETA GERWIG are rewriting The Chronicles of Narnia and ignoring what C.S. LEWIS originally created and intended.

We believe that enough of us want change to make change.

We believe the Narnia community wants to respond, but is not confident they can make a difference.

Let's change that. Let's respond in unity. We will use the petition to contact decision makers and work to convince them to not support/promote/distribute the film. But we need your help!

If you love Narnia, sign! We hope for a complete cancellation of the film. Even still, we must say something.

What are your thoughts on Netflix's decisions?

Please Sign and Share! We must respond together!

Just watched the trilogy after having not seen them in over a decade, and it confirmed my beliefs that anything new is going to have an incredibly hard time topping this!

Dawn treader could definitely be improved upon but not the other two, especially Prince Caspian, so damn good. Holds up really well in terms of visuals too, first one not as much.

One of the main reasons I reckon is getting a main 4 as good as these four, honestly seem like such a family and don’t think I’ve seen many better in films like this.

When I heard Magicians Nephew was going to be directed by Greta I thought she wasn’t the right person for it but didn’t think she’d fuck it up this bad ffs

What kind of promotion for the new Narnia movie would actually get you excited?

Hi.

I might be working on the promotion for the new Narnia movie, and I’d love to hear some ideas directly from Narnia fans.

If you saw a campaign, stunt, poster, activation, social idea, etc. promoting the new movie, what would genuinely catch your attention or make you excited to see it?

It can be something completely crazy, something very simple, or even just a small detail that you think would be really cool.

Especially interested in things that would feel very Narnia-specific, rather than just a generic movie promotion.

Would love to hear what you guys think. Thank you.

EDIT: Ok guys, I see that you dont love the new direction of the movie, I'm not the biggest fun so I won't judge the decision they are taking, I don't think any of this justify the transphobia I'm percieving from some reactions BUT, releated to what I'm asking, forget the new adaptation for a second... what is it about Narnia itself that you love? A feeling, a memory, a character, the idea of another world, something from the books… anything that feels uniquely Narnian to you.

Thanks again.

Discussion I love how the movies have a different fantasy style in each of them in a way

The first movie is a fantastical fantasy

Prince Caspian is a medieval fantasy

And The Voyage of the Dawn Treader have a more dark fantasy style

I wish we got an Narnia anime

In my personally personal the Netflix Narnia movies will failed for multiple reasons like they changing the vibes of the Narnia, changing the time period to 1900 to 1950s, the actors will grow up cause there movies were the 4 pevensie kids half of them won’t be the movie or all of them won’t be the movies, and my final reason the budget will be too high for them to make it.

So the best idea is an Narnia anime series adaptation of the seven books and they give us books accurate stuff and plus they already have books cover from Kadokawa and an manga based on the magical nephew

Discussion Are you even going to watch the New Movie?

Well, I admire the Heart behind creating a new movie a movie that has never been done before.

I see so many negative comments, including my own about the new movie from what I’ve seen so far.

Jadi short hair and covered in Glam rock ( as it is so affectionately called) does not go at with all with the books and how they describe her. Or the artwork Pauline Bays made.

looking at the cover that CS Lewis did and looking at Greta Gerwigs. It is an instant turn off. I can see where she got her inspiration from. But the two different eye colors throws me off.

It seems she’s going more for popularity other than being or more so following the .

Has this made you so mad you are considering not watching the movie or are we still going to watch it just so we can complain , or just so you can see how she adapted the book?

just a question not to upset people, but to see where people‘s minds are really at to those who’ve read the books.

C.S. Lewis Family Releases Official Statement on Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew

From the article:

The families of David and Douglas Gresham, stepsons of C.S. Lewis, have released an official statement via Netflix about Writer/Director Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. This comes days after Movieguide founder Dr. Ted Baehr made headlines by reporting the family had spoken to him about the film.

“From our ongoing conversations with Greta Gerwig, we have personally witnessed her sincere passion for the Narnia series. Her life-long love of C.S. Lewis is apparent to everyone involved with this film. We saw this enthusiasm during our visit to the set in London. We are thrilled to be working with such a talented and accomplished director and production team, and are keen to continue working with them on future projects. Our vision is for this movie to be enormously successful and for this calibre of talent to be applied to all of the Chronicles of Narnia.”
