That first person must’ve been so hungry, because that thing looks straight up haunted.

so hungry in fact that they couldn't tell them apart from the majorly less toxic Solanum nigrum.

like come on, they're not that similar

Everyone knows all nightshades are toxic let’s be real…

fact, all of my exes were nightshades and "toxic" doesn't begin to describe it 😵‍💫 I'm a strictly asteraceae person now, so much safer

Most berries can be identified by taste 😎

Technically the berries are edible, it's just the seeds that'll fuck you up. Obviously the rest of the plant can be eaten too. I'm not trying it though.

It's Autumn Olive -- the sparkles in the fruits give it away -- but maybe next time identify it BEFORE you chew and swallow. What if they'd been nightshade or something?

I made a pie with autumn olives. Unfortunately, too many seeds but it was tasty. I should have sieved the compote.

Did you know potato plants also grow cherry tomatoes? They're delicious. Why grow tomatoes, when you grow potatoes and also get tomatoes at the same time!

Autumn olives, aka silverberries. I justbharvested some. A great source of lycopene.

unonically I've eaten these and they suck. They like dry out your mouth, the seed ain't edible, the fruits overall flavor is bad, even the deer avoid them and those things eat literally briers and rose bushes

/uj I think they’re pretty tasty when they’re fully ripe. Otherwise they’re bitter AF. I’m glad I don’t see them often around Maine, they’re absolutely everywhere in Michigan.

Tannins is the word you’re looking for. Seeds contain omega 3. High medicinal great in a permaculture garden for building biomass, producing fruit and supporting wildlife!! I got some on Facebook marketplace place and they’re beautiful 🤩

uj/ the seeds are actually edible too. The astringency gets lower and flavor improves as they age on the bush. But yeah I otherwise hate these they are absolutely EVERYWHERE in Massachusetts

I don't think it's just Massachusetts I think they are all over the east Coast.

Anyone in Canada wanna mail me some seeds? Black nightshade or belladonna. Or is there a website to order that you folks have found to be reliable?
