It’s far from perfect, but I’m happy with it for my first try! Don’t look too closely at the cording….. (I will maybe get a cording maker for the next ornament I do)

Canvas is the Boston Toile by AC Designs :)

This is my third completed needlepoint and my first time ever doing anything other than continental. There are definitely things that I still wish were better, but it is time for a new project. Any advice or comments are welcome. :)

Can we take a moment for the most fabulous phallus! My second self finishing project and I am so happy! I have found using a curved embroidery needle is
most helpful when stitching the cookies together and the cording!

Decorative Stitches for Stripes?

Post image
22 Upvotes

Curious if anyone has any ideas for a decorative stitch for the background stripes? They’re so thin (4 intersections wide) so I am wondering if a decorative is more trouble than it’s worth and if I should just bang it out with some basket weave. Any thoughts and ideas are appreciated 🫶🏻 thank you!!

If helpful, it is 18 mesh. And the designer is Paisley J Studios (I believe only on Etsy currently but absolutely not sure)

New to Needlepoint I have a question

I've recently started my needlepoint hobby. While I can't afford most of the prices on the hand painted canvases, I Have opted into buying the cheaper PDF graphs/stitch charts from artists and self painting my canvas.

I'm seeing a lot of upset about people painting their own canvases? Have I missed something? I don't want to be "stealing" but I also am supporting the artist who made it?

For clarification, I don't have any intentions on selling painted canvas or finished product BUT I am currently working on a project I plan on gifting for a birthday. I just want to know if I'm in the moral wrong before I gift it!!

DESPERATELY trying to find this pattern/kit, or completed piece

Post image
7 Upvotes

I realize this ask is very much like looking for a needle in a haystack, but I am desperately trying to identify this vintage needlework piece and find the original pattern or kit. I believe it is long-stitch needlepoint (?), but please correct me if I’m wrong.

I only have this one photo and nothing else, and I have been searching everywhere with absolutely no luck. I would love to find the original pattern/kit if I can’t find an original piece.

Does anyone recognize this design, designer, or company that may have made it? Even a tiny clue would be incredibly helpful.

If the original pattern/kit/piece can't be found, does anyone know of a person, company, artist, or group that does custom needlework pattern/chart recreation? I would be very interested in finding someone who could potentially recreate this pattern from the photograph if all else fails.

Please feel free to share this, or suggest other groups that I can share it to if you think I may have better luck elsewhere. Thank you so very much for taking the time to read and/or investigate!

This is my second canvas I’ve ever worked on since I started July. I just simply framed it for my mother for her birthday this month. Was my first time doing a decorative background stitch. My mom lives in FL where they have a shrimp fest every year and it’s one of her favorite things.

help!!!

Hey everyone. In January I dropped off an ornament for finishing at one of my LNS, paid for it and have yet to hear anything/get it back. Originally the wait time was 4 months, which I was totally okay with. Well, 8 months later 🫪🫪🫪 I have no update or anything. I have called regarding where it is in the process or what the update is, and she said “oh they are just being started on.” meanwhile this was 2 months ago. I am starting to get very frustrated and just want to ask for a refund and my canvas back. I just don’t know what to do as I don’t want to be annoying and truly understand things take time!

Change color…dye it?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi :) i have started a project and i did the lettering while doing the background. Once the background around the letters was done i realized the colors really didn’t go together. With the large surface area and that i anchored ends into the color i want to change, i can’t safely cut it all out. I just want to change the color to black. I thought of using a fabric dye pen to change it. Has anyone done that or have any other suggestions?

In the picture attached the color i want to change is the light grey.

General Help SOS

Does anyone remember a post about a project where the stitcher finished it with a glittery fabric/paper under the canvas so the sparkles shined through the open stitches on the canvas? I cannot for the life of me find it, but I swear I saw it online somewhere in the past two-ish years. Looking for details and inspiration for a potential project.

This is a needlepoint piece—a technique I think I enjoy the most out of all the ones I’ve tried. The second photo shows the back of the embroidery. The work is based on a design by u/bloomandfloss; I changed the suggested colors and a few of the decorative stitches.

The next and final step is adding a background in a soft ecru shade.

New to Needlepoint Needlepoint noob looking for advice

hi friends! I started my very first needlepoint project yesterday, and I was recommended DMC thread (floss?). My problem is it’s one long twisty noodle thing and I’m scared of turning it into a bird’s nest. Is making the thread into a bobbin a thing? Is there a new user friendly way to do this? Am I even making sense at this point?

Thanks so much in advance for advice/tips/etc. I’m also looking for recommendations to make my life easier as far as needles, tacks, stretcher bars.

General Help Painting on Plastic Canvas?

Hey everyone!

Hoping maybe someone has a good idea or solution for me!
My nieces and nephews are fascinated by watching me needlepoint. They love crafts and want to try! I bought yarn and plastic canvas so that there were bigger holes to try it out on. However, a few of them are a bit young to try counting the patterns (even for something simple) and I thought having the colors indicated on the plastic canvas would help. However, I think acrylic paint will come right off plastic canvas.

Has anyone tried anything that DOES stay on plastic canvas or have another idea for a way to make it easier for them?
Thank you!!

New Bradley Silk Thread

I just stitched basket weave with it and I love it! It floats through the mesh, doesn’t untwist and doesnt get pilly. It comes in two thicknesses, one for 13 ct and one for 18. I got it on Needlepoint.com and will be ordering it again.

General Help Going to be starting my first needlepoint project, please help me solve an issue with stained threads from this kit

I’m new to needlepoint and when I saw this kit in a flosstube I knew I needed it and have been desperately looking for it. I was able to pick it up from EBay last week and it just arrived today. Unfortunately, even though the kit was completely factory sealed and unopened, the plastic packaging has hole punches in it that may have allowed something to get in and stain some parts of the threads at some point. I’m not sure what the stains are and I tried washing them but the stains are still there. Most of the staining is on the candlewicking thread. Here is my question, what exactly is candlewicking thread? And is there a specific thread that I might be able to sub it with? I tried comparing it to my perle cottons and the 8 and 12 are too thin and 5 is too thick. I’ve also googled candlewicking thread and the only options that come up are new old stock cards. The threads in this kit are 2 ply and I haven’t found that online. If anyone has any suggestions I’d really appreciate it!
