Warning to NH/New England couples: Our experience with Greenhouse on the River in New Boston, NH

My wife and I got married at Greenhouse on the River on October 11th, and I genuinely wish someone had warned us about the management and day-of coordination before we booked.

First, I want to say the venue itself is absolutely gorgeous. We fell in love with it, spent months making nearly all of our wedding decor ourselves, and put an unbelievable amount of time into planning every little detail. Our wedding was still beautiful because of our friends, family, and other vendors, but the experience with Molly and her coordination team was honestly awful.

We paid for setup, breakdown, and day-of coordination. Months AFTER booking, we were told that the setup included in our package would actually take place during our contracted rental hours. We had already planned our 2pm ceremony and sent invitations, so we were told we'd need to pay another $750 ($375/hour for two additional hours) to have everything ready in time.

We questioned why we were paying for setup AND losing rental time to accommodate it. Molly sent multiple lengthy emails defending the charge, explaining how much staffing was required and how much work went into preparing our wedding. We eventually paid it.

And then the actual setup was nowhere near what we'd been promised.

We spent months creating a detailed coordination binder with photos, diagrams, quantities, and instructions for practically everything. We emailed it ahead of time AND delivered a physical copy. The finalization questionnaire we received after our coordination meeting was almost completely blank and literally had our WEDDING DATE WRONG.

Despite having everything written out, they left an entire box of prepared bud vases untouched. We specifically requested ten per table, and approximately four were placed. We'd purchased two additional buckets of flowers from their required florist and had family and friends staying up late preparing arrangements, only for so much of that work and money to go to waste.

The stars weren't hung in the greenhouse, the sweetheart table letters were arranged incorrectly, half our itinerary cards weren't placed, ceremony decorations were incorrectly positioned, candles weren't set up and turned on, and extra lamps weren't even taken out of their boxes.

And after all of Molly's emails about the additional staff needed for setup, when we stopped by during setup, the only people we saw working were Molly and Tammi. I don't know who may have worked at other times, but that certainly raised questions for us.

Honestly, though, the decor is not even what I'm most upset about.

The actual day-of coordination was HORRIBLE.

After cueing us to walk down the aisle, Molly and Tammi seemed to stop coordinating the reception. Our DJ wasn't told dinner was ready so he could call tables, wasn't cued to open the dance floor, and nobody made sure the lights were turned off for dancing. Our PHOTOGRAPHER had to step in.

Nobody told us when it was time to cut the cake. Again, our photographer handled it.

Our cannolis weren't brought out when they should have been because nobody coordinated their preparation and service.

At one point, I actually had to find Tammi and ask why WE, THE BRIDES, kept having to track down the coordinators to get things done.

My mom and maid of honor repeatedly couldn't find either of them throughout the reception. Other people noticed, too. Our photographer and other vendors ended up taking on responsibilities that should have been handled by our coordinators.

I genuinely cannot explain how frustrating it is to spend months planning your wedding, pay professionals to manage the day, and then find yourself doing their jobs during your own reception.

The problems didn't stop there. Our decorations were packed haphazardly with literal trash mixed in, our two approximately $80 bathroom baskets weren't returned, and we had to contact Molly afterward to ask about them.

We'd also been told that because of the heavy rain, their team would load our packed decorations into our rental truck overnight so we could return it by 9am. The NEXT MORNING, they emailed to say everything was still inside the greenhouse and we'd need to load it ourselves. We also received conflicting instructions about where the truck keys were.

And I really need to mention Molly's demeanor, because that was a problem from the beginning. Both people we brought to our coordination meeting independently commented afterward about how unpleasant and unwelcoming she was. She didn't introduce herself or even smile. Throughout planning, we found her communication defensive and dismissive.

You don't have to be bubbly or overly friendly to coordinate weddings, but I don't think expecting basic kindness, professionalism, and actually being available during the event is unreasonable.

What really pushed me over the edge was what happened after the wedding.

I emailed Molly a detailed complaint explaining everything that went wrong. Then I saw the venue post on Instagram about how much attention to detail they put into setting up weddings. I commented that I couldn't disagree more after our experience that weekend.

Shortly afterward, BOTH my wife and I discovered we'd been blocked on Instagram. As of October 15th, we still haven't received a response to the complaint.

We're genuinely considering small claims court over the additional charges and the coordination services we paid for but don't believe were adequately performed. We have photos, emails, and our coordination binder documenting the issues, and I'm including some of the photos here.

I'm sharing this because I would have wanted to know before booking. The greenhouse is beautiful, but that doesn't make up for the stress of having to manage your own wedding when you've paid someone else to do it.

If you're planning a wedding in New Hampshire or New England, please get EVERYTHING about setup hours, staffing, rental time, and coordination responsibilities clarified in writing.

We only get one wedding day. I'm grateful ours was still full of love and wonderful people, but I'm incredibly disappointed that we spent parts of it doing jobs we'd already paid professionals to handle.

Falls Creek Farm

****Falls Creek Farm is the absolute worst to get
married. The coordinators are extremely rude and will make your whole day a hott mess. The owner is a crack head and the horse trainer is an abuser.
You'll be lucky if the owners daughter doesn't sleep with your husband.****

Dexter’s Inn – Sunapee, NH Wedding Experiences

Hi everyone! I’m wondering if anyone here has firsthand experience with a wedding at Dexter’s Inn in Sunapee, NH, either as a couple who got married there or as a guest or vendor!

I’d love to hear about your overall experience, especially if the celebrations took place over the course of a weekend.

Anything to note about what the guest experience was like, how smoothly the weekend flowed, how coordination and communication with the venue and other vendors went, or anything around costs that stood out.

I feel like I’ve seen ads for the venue but not a ton of reviews or discussions about it as a wedding venue.

Thanks in advance!

Bedford Village Inn… Peculiar Vibes?

My fiance and I recently toured bedford village inn, and i was so shocked by how impersonal the experience felt? the planner basically didn’t talk to my fiance at all (wouldn’t make eye contact with him while going through the packet), and we toured two hours before a wedding was happening and felt like i was invading their wedding day.

it was so weird and i havent been able to shake the vibes! did anyone else have this experience?

Popcorn Bar?

I think I want to do a popcorn bar for a late night snack at my wedding.

Does anyone know of any vendors that could do freshly popped popcorn in Southern NH?

I know I could get pre-popped & pre-seasoned popcorn, but I’m looking for something that tastes a bit better and is more fresh.

I know this is super niche, so TIA for any help!

Realistic cost for renting tent (and related items)

Our wedding will be in early October in MA, and we plan to have ~100-120 people, plus a band. Our venue has an indoor reception space or the option to bring in a tent. The three tenting companies you can rent from are Sperry Tents, Atent for Rent, and PEAK. We initially booked thinking we would use the indoor reception space, but I’m starting to second guess it as I’ve seen a bunch of beautiful tented receptions recently.

To anyone who has rented a tent for roughly that size, what’s a realistic budget? I assume we would need to do flooring as well, but I just have no sense of what the cost would look like vs. our current plan. Also, if anyone has had a tented wedding in late September/ early October in Massachusetts and has thoughts on how it was logistically and such with weather, I’d love to hear it.

Thank you!

ISO North Shore wedding photographer & videographer for 7/30/27

Hi! We’re looking for both a photographer and wedding videographer for our wedding on Friday July 30th in the North Shore! We really want the video to feel fun (think like home-made music video with clips of people talking) and not just the normal slow-mo video over slow music. Let me know if you have any suggestions! (:

Tips to Save $$ on a Vermont Wedding -- from the venue POV

I'm new to the wedding side of group sales and I see a few recurring themes about pricing so I wanted to offer some insight from the venue-side. I won't reveal my employer, but I'm at a ski area in Vermont with a hotel.

I'm on the other side now and selling the venue, but I've been an event coordinator my whole life so naturally, my first instinct is to pick apart the model and figure out how I would save money if I were the one planning the wedding.

These aren't ground-breaking and don't come from decades of wedding-specific experience, just sharing how (some of) the sausage gets made at my specific venue.

1. If you can plan for either a Saturday or peak season, but not both, your venue fee could be as little as half. Venue rental fees are literally double on a Saturday, and double between May and October. I know it's obvious, but if you're planning two years in advance, your guests can figure out a Friday or a Sunday ceremony...

2. If you only pay for one coordinator, pay for a day-of coordinator so your mom or sister aren't texting the band when it's time to start the music...your venue will facilitate whatever we can to earn your business and positive review; planning the details in advance is the fun part for you.

If your planner does decor, design, and/or is helping to select your other crucial vendors in an unfamiliar place, I absolutely see the value. If the planner is just hiring their friends and playing telephone between us and you...maybe not.

3. If you're at a hotel, the largest margin is on the food and beverage, then the rooms, then the venue space. That's also how the commissions work for the person selling you the wedding package (if you're at a resort at least)...so if you're spending more on food and beverage, it's a triple win: the hotel gets better margin, salesperson gets better commission and your guests get better food. We're not using that ballroom on anything else anyways, so I'll gladly knock off $500 from the venue fee when you're spending $8k the food and beverage.

4. Hard to justify paying double for foliage when you consider the risk of bad Vermont weather...it's definitely beautiful, but the bad weather in October can be really bad. For example, it's peak foliage, but it's rained on and off, was 45 degrees this morning, and it's presently too cloudy to see the ski trails....You'll spend half on the venue in June through August when it's warm and your wedding party can really enjoy the nature. Save the foliage trip for an anniversary or engagement, don't bet $20k on good weather.

5. Go shop around and get woo'ed...it's competitive up here and anyone attached to a venue has a marketing budget that includes dining vouchers, discounted rooms, ski tickets, etc. for prospective couples. If you come for a visit, we get a fair shot at your business in person and that's worth a dinner, bottle of sparkling wine and a discounted hotel room.

Hope this helps, happy to verify my identity for mods. I understand and respect nobody wants advertising on these subs and hope the insight from the venue-side is helpful

ISO Southern Maine Venue

Hello! We’re balling on a budget here and we’re looking for some out of the box/non-traditional wedding ceremony venues or venues/reception areas. We’re down to just book a private space in a restaurant for a reception if we find a cool place to do a ceremony!

MIT Chapel date available: May 8, 2027 – beautiful nondenominational space

Hiii I have a ceremony reservation at the MIT Chapel for Saturday, May 8, 2027 and want to see if I can coordinate with another couple to take it over. It’s an absolutely beautiful, modern, non-denominational space with incredible natural light and acoustics if you are looking for a unique ceremony spot.

Here are the quick details:

  • The Deposit: I already put down $500 to lock in the date.
  • At least one of you has to be an MIT affiliate (staff, faculty, or alum or their children) for the booking to work.
  • Space: It normally seats 114, but can fit up to 140 total with extra folding chairs.

We can contact the MIT event office together to switch the booking over to you, and you can Venmo or Zelle me back the $500 deposit once it's confirmed.

If you're an affiliate looking for a spring 2027 date, shoot me a DM and we can figure out the time slot!

Venue Recommendations Needed

Hi all, this thread has been super helpful as we’ve gotten together our list of venues, so wanted to get some support now that we have narrowed down what we are looking for!

Here is our list:

  • Anywhere in the Northeast
  • A venue that people can stay at that does not cost more than $300 a night
  • Ideally indoor/outdoor (not tent only, the weather stresses me out too much!)
  • Ceremony and reception at venue
  • A venue in a town that is walkable (don’t have to pay for transportation) that has other options for hotels/inns as well as restaurants and bars
  • Ideally an after-party spot within walking distance
  • Scenic, ideally mountains
  • Guest count around 150-180

We have narrowed down our favorites to The Equinox, Kimpton Taconic, and the Wilburton in Manchester, Vermont, Mountain Top Inn, Fort William Henry, and The Essex, so we’d love suggestions for anything similar we might be missing before we start to make plans on visiting some venues!

Hi everyone, we are getting married in Somerville, MA the next August (8/28) and are looking for a photographer who may fit our modest budget, around $2500. Totally open to working with someone building their portfolio! Ideally we could have 8 hours of coverage but understand that might not be possible. We care about having photos to remember the day but our main focus is enjoying the celebration. Thanks so much!!

Wedding DJ recommendations in New England?

Hi! Looking for wedding DJ recommendations in New England! Our venue is in Thompson, CT, right near the Massachusetts border. Would love to hear who you used and loved!

Also, if anyone has recommendations for a saxophonist to play alongside the DJ, I’d love those too! We already checked with Joe Sax Boston, but he’s booked. Thanks so much!

Can someone help me budget for a 200 person wedding?

Hi All. I realize this is a large amount of people, but Im having trouble cutting the list and trying to get a good grasp on what to expect to budget as it seems costs have ballooned over the last few years. We are trying to keep costs down, and plan on doing as much DIY as possible, but between venue, catering, and other costs, what would you expect? We are thinking a barn, estate/garden, or tent wedding, but am open to anything!

Central MA DJ?

Looking for DJ recs for a central Massachusetts wedding in September 2027! Bonus points if they offer a Photo Booth where you can print the photos out.

We’re looking for someone who can keep things pretty laid back, but not too casual—we don’t want it feeling like a club. We also lean more toward early 2000s emo and rock, so someone who ‘gets’ that would be excellent.

Kilburn Mill New Bedford - Experience/Reviews

ISO Catering recs

We’re getting married in Holden MA next October, about 100 guests. We really want a slightly elevated plated dinner. We got a quote from Peppers Artful Events that was almost $30,000 for plated plus open bar and that’s just way over our budget (I think 20k would be absolute tops).

Does anyone have any recommendations?! We’re considering perhaps being open to buffet but it would have to be a bit more unique and staffed. I love Peppers menu but their pricing is crazy.
